Spare the rod, spoil the child? It really has no more meaning to today's generation, because no kid is physically punished at school today. There's all sorts of things that would have been considered spoiled way back in the day that is seen as completely normal today. So things do change, behaviors, mentalities, views, etc. So kids today will still be called spoiled, but for entirely different reasons.
