Also a good place to start thinning is half water, half paint. Your paint shouldn't be lumpy, or too liquidy. It should be more liquid than solid though.
Basically thin until you can't see any solid paint. The easiest way to do this is with a piepette.
Also use tamiya primer if you're repainting the whole piece anyway.
