Sure there are amazing hand painted kits out there but you are not likely to see this level of quality in your first dozen or so kits and you might even quit the hobby before you reach that level of skill.
Spraying on the other hand will give you good to amazing quality with little effort unless you are particularly clumsy.
Buy a few spray cans a paint a kit. Sure it's a waste of money in the long run but it is less than even the cheapest airbrush setup. If you like it, you can get serious, if you don't you throw empty cans in the trash and you're done.
