I also think it'd be interesting if the great downsizing was voluntary for the good guys, but mandatory for the loser decepticons.
This would have created a resentment towards the maximals as people who got to chose the small modes versus those that were forced upon them, and so appealing to the predacons as a way to make sure the decepticons didn't lose the war would be VERY tempting
