>>8229014G2014 is trash. It's probably the most unwatchable "Godzilla" movie. At least the other bad Godzilla movies are good for a laugh. G2014 is just boring and colorless. It feels like it was a prewritten disaster/monster movie that had Godzilla hastily inserted into the script after Legendary bought the license to the character from Toho. I would have rather seen Yoshimitsu Banno's intended remake of Godzilla vs Hedorah.
G2019 is more of a "popcorn" movie, but at least it was interesting. I don't like some of the decisions they made, but there were some good ideas added to the lore as well (i.e. the Atlantis sequence). It was a much better-looking movie than G2014, even if there are criticisms to be made of the CGI and fight scenes.
I recently rewatched every Godzilla movie in order, and Shin is one of the best by far when it comes to pulling off deeper themes. It's probably in my top ten of all Godzilla movies
