>>9947861>>9948279>>9948535I used to be pretty anti-repro as a teen, but I also had self-made repro playsets of the Palitoy Death Star and Sears Cloud City cardboard playsets because who in their right mind would shell out several hundreds or thousands on old cardboard from the 1970s or 1980s? Nowadays I'm not anti-repro because I grew up from being an edgy teenager.
What can be said about those old cardboard playsets holds true for the figures and accessories as well: repros will eventually be the only way to keep them alive because the cheap-ass plastic Kenner and later on Hasbro used/use degrades. Much like with 1980s and 1990s video games which have a battery-backed save mechanism: the battery the game comes with can and will last for 15-30 years (unless it's a 2nd generation Pokémon game, in which case good luck getting it to last even 5 years) but in due time it *will* run dry and you _have_ to replace it.
The same, I fear and evidence suggests, will be true of our figures. That is why I'm hoping that in the future we will see more ("unauthorized") 3D scans and the like of Hasbro's products. Also some crazy people enjoy painting figures and such on their own. And finally Hasblow's never gonna re-release certain products, especially at an affordable price point, so people not willing to shell out several hundreds to scalpers are left with basically no options.
