>>11345332Well, personally my first experience with CR was seeing Gigatron, which is a very ornate, detailed design which is sort of Beast Wars, but with less emphasis on the organics and beastliness and more polished into a very Japanese design. I think CR is fairly different from Armada, designwise, generally Armada/Energon go for more chunky and retro looks and CR went for a very sleek look. Compare Fire Convoy to G1 Optimus and it really emphasizes the different, more contemporary design philosophy there. I'm really fond of cybertron/Galaxy Force too, because I think the designs did feel fairly new for the time.
As far as 2000's anime, while there were retro homages, I do think there's a notable difference in proportions that marked them as being more modern in general. That's a whole discussion to be had, but I think the important part was that CR felt more in line with then-new anime than older TF series would've been.
I just want something DIFFERENT but not (typical) western designs from the cartoons or movies because I'm just not fond of how they look.
