>>9657988With Angel Philia, that's kind of the point. Aside from them, I think this is a cultural difference. The west tends to view anything remotely sexual as an extreme taboo and a direct pipeline to the complete breakdown of society, and thus heavily frown upon and censure all sexualized works outside of a very narrow range of acceptability; in comparison, Japan seems to make space for sexualized content to at least /exist/ with less hand-wringing and pearl-clutching -- and the majority of vinyl collectors active on social media are still in Japan at the end of the day. People who collect them in the west likely mimic the trends they see -- "oh, a lingerie photoshoot got a lot of attention, I should try that, too!"
I think it's honestly easier to make 'marketable' work with vinyl in that particular genre, too -- resin can vary so dramatically in proportion and styling that finding dolls which are both aesthetically appealing, and that you are willing to shell out real-world money to own, is a much more complicated matter in comparison to vinyl, which has like, idk, <50 body types in the whole community.
There's also the fact that resin collectors on english-speaking social media websites tend to generally view anyone with a sexualized anime doll as a degenerate beyond redemption by default, thus leaving them alone -- while resin collectors can get slapped with accusations of pedophilia for so much as taking a photo of Yo-SD/MSD in a one-piece swimsuit on an actual beach, and that puts a lot of people off even trying to push the envelope -- especially if they want to portray anything other than a heterosexual coupling, as this thread itself is evidence enough of how anyone who portrays sexualized imagery of homosexuals is "fetishizing" them, regardless of context or intent.
It's less "muh animuh superior japan master race" because japan has a whoooole different set of problems to contend with, and more "both cultures have issues, here's one set of them."
