Nerf has its own appeal as something different because it's a lot less messy, less expensive to shoot, you need a lot less protective gear (just eye protection instead of a full mask), and it has FAR more of a modding and customization aspect. That's the biggest thing I miss about old school paintball, everything had standardized connections and you could put all sorts of aftermarket parts on absolutely everything. Nowadays everything's a one piece with integrated ASAs and regulators, nerf fills that niche for me that paintball doesn't anymore.
I can also fuck around with nerf guns in my house, can't do that with airsoft or paintball.
