Again, a lot of that deep down hate didn't even happen until RLM released their video.
Nevermind that TPM spawned a whole lot of love as well. Pod racing was one of the best games for that generation. Rogue Squadron got new life from TPM's release and the hidden Naboo fighter.
There was a lot of love for the designs, the planets, etc as well. It opened a slew of avenues that companies could create.
Nevermind that the characters were also embraced.
Nearly everything about TFA and TLJ is mocked, derided and even hated. The main characters. The designs. The worlds. The entire concept is boring and same old shitted.
TPM, AotC, and RotS created worlds, characters, and battles that people still want to live out and see more of. With the new movies? There's almost nothing that people want to go about recreating, playing out, because the sequels are just recreating shit we already saw in the original trilogy.
The level of discord that the new sequels have brought about is many more levels over what we saw for the prequels in all their years of existance in just 2 years.
