The problem isn't that they forgot, but rather the opposite; many people never grow up. They retain all the selfish, impulsive behaviors they had as a kid, but simply believe they are now adults by merit of age alone, while completely lacking the emotional growth and perspective required to look back and compartmentalize and/or understand their childhood; they can't "remember" what it's like to be a kid because they never left, and those are the kinds of adults that kids hate the most; the ones who are always thoughtlessly afraid for children, or the ones who selfishly impose their ideas and beliefs with the clout of "I'm the adult", and little else.
