He's basically analyzing how a Generations version of Star Saber can be done using approximately the same amount of plastic as commander class Jetfire since that's how Hasbro did their calculations when making Trypticon.

Not exactly. That prototype was for measuring parts count and plastic requirements. It was never meant to be representative of the final toy.
