>>9231709I far prefer SD kits for fun and painting. Fewer parts and less articulation and complication to deal with. Seam welding is particularly necessary due how bad they can look on heads, arms, etc, but if you are painting just doing a thick weld and then some quick filing to cover with paint isn't a big deal compared to trying to weld all the small bits of other kits
Books wise there are a ton in japanese, but its mostly all just personal preference. Googling some guides and stuff and just learning as you go is really the only legit option
