They often look bad, can't hold onto shit, and are generally useless except to take a photo or two with a peace sign or middle finger. There are precious few toys that justify them for me--in order for them to work, they need to be relatively large, tight enough to hold poses and accessories, and have a really good range of motion, not just two hinge joints. An example of really well done fingers is Toy Notch's Astrobots. They really went the extra mile to give them fantastic range of motion, including being able to spread the fingers wide apart, which is something that the majority of poseable hands ignore or can't get right.
