It doesn't maintain the digital/voxel look (the aliens in Pixels or the Sonic 3 credits for a polygonal version), but it doesn't commit to interpreting the things as they would be in real life (like Detective Pikachu and Sonic) but also chooses not to interpret things in a stylistic, animation friendly way (Angry Birds. Mario).
It's acknowledging the blockiness and voxel nature of the world, but still choosing to interpret as a realistic.
It reminds me of the manual art for Cubivore, but that was deliberately grotesque and bizarre, they didn't expect you to deal with it for the entirety of the product.
