I'm pulling these numbers out of my ass, but i assume that over way over 50% of the people who buy and build models don't use an airbrush, most of them don't look at youtube guides, forums/facebook groups or anywhere for advise and also most of them probably keep using enamel paint like they did 30 years ago.
In short, they build in a way they always did and like they did when they were a child.
A channel with such "mediocre" builds is popular because those people won't get intimidated by advanced tools, techniques and awesome results.
In a way, something like this is important for the hobby, because the bad modelers are the vast majority.
