>>742475525. I started seriously collecting Lego around the age of 13-14 after my short-lived dark age, it was all about Star Wars for me at the time. I collected those until I was 19 and then sold 95% of my collection to buy my first car.
I had 150 sets at one point and went down to only keeping a few of my favorites; the 4501 Mos Eisley Cantina, UCS Yoda, Ewok Attack and a couple small figure sets like the Droid Escape and Final Duel I & II. I think I sold $10,000 worth of Lego at that point. Including an unopened UCS Falcon for $1800, unopened Cloud City $700, unopened MTT $400, Unopened Jabba's Sail Barge $400, Opened UCS Maul, $450, Gold C3PO $400, etc, etc.
I ended up making a lot of money and most of the stuff hadn't even hit it's peak. Lego Star Wars proved to be a great investment and collectable for the time I enjoyed it. My years of saving and finding deals paid off and I bought myself a cool car upon graduation.
A few years later, around the age of 21, I decided to rebuy my favorite childhood set, The Black Seas Barracuda and that set the ball in motion for the second phase of my collecting. I don't buy all that much now but I have about 30 sets of vintage Castle, Pirates and a few Town, Space, Adventurers, Aquazone, Western, etc. A pretty big spread over themes. I'd say Castle and Pirates is currently tied for my favorite theme. One day, when I get a bigger place, I'd like to set up a big castle diorama in a room to build on. Maybe when I have kids, it can be something I do with them.
