Also you're wrong. "chase variants", exclusives, store limited runs, are all created purely to boost the stock of the company that is holding the exclusive. Hasbro has stated this in investor and marketing calls before, that they offer Target and Walmart and Amazon exclusives because this makes them purchase more. The actual volume of sales of said exclusives is meaningless. The companies only care that they have something exclusive, because investors believe that this inflattes the value of their company. Hasbro likes it because exclusives, regardless of the character, always sell out because they are produced in significantly lower numbers and are guaranteed sales. They can further incentivize this to companies by making ONE character in an exclusive wave genuinely desireable. That's why we have Cosmos, Terrorsaur, marvel Impactor, etc.
It's in no way manipulating consumers, it's manipulating investors. Collectors are going to go to any length to get a character they love, or need for a shelf, regardless. Investors see "WE HAVE THE ONLY COPY OF THE BELOVED FAN CHARACTER WE ONLY HEARD ABOUT TODAY, THIS WILL MAKE THE NUMBER GO UP!!!!!!".
