Or get in Diaclone FB groups and post your ISOs, you could get them closer to retail than on eBay.

But there are some bootleg brands that I hear are "just as good", in quotes because I don't own any myself but I hear from many other Diaclone collectors on FB groups that they are very close in terms of quality, one of those brands is MechFansToys, and it's weirdTakara doesn't seem to mind that they're producing bootleg replicas of their toys, in fact MFT is producing their own designs and they are pretty cool.

I was a little too young for it at the time(born late 91) but Power rangers constantly was airing older episodes so I was really into it but between it being scarce on shelves by then, my parents not having enough money and me being too young to really play with it I missed out. In the late 90s I got a bootleg along with a MEgazord KO which was pretty cool, but eventually it fell apart. Now I own the original MIB, the Legacy, and two Soul of Chogokins so I can display him in two modes, so yeah, I'm a little obsessed. I really considered getting the imaginext version, too, but I just gave it to my nephew instead.

all of these were fucking CRAP.

Imperialdramon is the one digimon that made me glad my country got bootlegs of the toys before the anime.
The first D-Real I bought was Paildramon, and since I didn't have any Wormmon toys and my Veemon was too busy being a Magnamon main I just made him a cool cowboy guy that appeared out of nowhere.
By then the continuity that would lead my Veemon to Imperialdramon; so when by pure chance I was in need of a villain for my toys and the old Imperialdramon bootleg hit stores I just made him my first sympathetic villain.

I didn't get the figuarts when I went back to collecting because being a big guy was part of his character but I'd buy an upscale KO in a heartbeat.

yeah i looked up the reviews, thanks for the infos anons. I saw a few reviews between the model kit and mafex, then got even more indecisive. ive went ahead and bought the used mafex and if that turns out cool, ill buy 2 of the model kits to form a unit.

its surprising how few reviews there are for the mafex death trooper, but all of them were singing praises for it. i went ahead and pulled the trigger, hopefully it's in a good condition.

as far as i know there arent any bootleg of the mafex right?

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a 2.0 cell in the next few years, but honestly the Premium color looks pretty good to me. My only problems with it are the vibrant pink and the purple parts on the face that don't match up with the sculpt lines. Fortunately, if you're willing to spend the extra money, the Event Exclusive Cell has neither of those problems. The blue looks really cool too!

Usually they all were based on some 80-90s transformer toy minus gimmick to cut the plastic and price.

For example i had Double Dealer that could not transform into bird because it did not have such parts.

This also a part of reason why i HATE bootlegs or any chink shit with all my heart. I never had attachement to my childhood toys because they were very flimsy and easily broken.

They started to become cool only when Lego appeared on the market.
Now im a total Lego crusader and i burn any chinese bootleg i see

When I was a kid, I had some bootleg figure based on a property I didn't recognize and that could only move it's shoulders but loved it anyway because it was like 8" tall and looked really cool, the whole thing was cast entirely in electric blue chrome and his accessories in gold.

I know. I'm OP and I made this thread specifically for the tears. I mean it's totally on topic but I knew it would cause tears as well. We already had a thread for SSB Goku and this wave of DS is the newest thing announced. And they actually are releasing decent characters this time around. SS4 Goku and First Form Freiza are cool additions to anyone's display. Cell looks pretty good too and 17 is definitely passable so they're also fine choices for people who missed out on their SHF counterparts. I for one will be using the DS Androids until Tamashii finally gives us 2.0s or PC versions. Shit, if BoA was smart they could've made a Krillin because God knows late comers in the line could use something better than a bootleg or model kit.

As for primarily anime-focused stores, there was this one cool place in San Diego called Rising Sun Creations. I remember them having lots of cool toys like figma, nendos, some random gashapon, and lots of gunpla. They had this 5 foot gundam statue out front that was always on display. As the years went by, they had to relocate to smaller spaces until they eventually went out of business. Sad to see them go, it was such a fun spot with cool employees.

Some friends in LA had some stories to tell however. There were lots of crappy stores with cheap bootleg stuff that lured in otakus with DBZ/SailorMoon/etc wallscrolls hanging on the windows. I think I recall a story of a extra crappy spot run by an old man who wouldn't even let you in without you promising to buy something first. Turns out it was mostly an antique store with just some anime merch in the front to bait people.
