>>10027158OG NWA was part of the territorial system, where talent created and owned their own gimmicks. Also, wasn't a real company: NWA was always a loose confederation of territories that worked together and what most people think of as the "original NWA" IE WCW circa 83-89, was actually the Jim Crockett Promotions, which merged with UWF and Georgia Wrestling and had the plum time slot on TBS in the 80s after the infamous Black Saturday debacle with the WWE. Crockett was the big dog in the NWA at the time so they used the branding for TV and PPVs.
Turner bought Crockett in late 1989, rebranding the company WCW and NWA shrank down to next to nothing. All of the major assets (PPV name-wise) got bought by Turner which in turn was bought by Vince, though a lot of the trademarks lapsed on him after WCW shut down. Billy basically just bought the name NWA and shrank it down to a single show/group.
As such, Billy can't do any retro shit merchandise-wise since he owns nothing but the NWA name. And he doesn't have any new merchandise lines, because NWA operates largely on a freelance basis with indie talent who create their own gimmicks they own and who do their own merchandise. If Billy started doing shit like a video game or toy line, he'd have to shell out big money to get everyone's likeness rights and action figure toy rights, even if he basically subcontracts out to people like Cardona and the small companies he is using to make figures of his own/other ex-WWE guys.
Also, Hawk and Animal alternated between Legion of Doom and Road Warriors pre-WWE. They were originally part of a stable called "The Legion of Doom" in AWA and in Crockett, they used the Road Warriors name due to issues with legality over the LOD name. Vince meanwhile, used the LOD name with no fucks given though Animal and Hawk were still billed as "Road Warrior Hawk/Animal" individually. So with Vince, it was a matter of his preference for LOD as their name and it carries over to their merch
