/toy/bros... my job is killing me mentally. I've been thinking of selling ALL my shit off and not working for a while, but at least learning a new skill in the process. I'd be good for at least a year financially if I did that, but it shouldn't take me that long to start finding a new line of work again. What should I do?

I did something similar and now that things are better I regret selling a lot of the stuff.

Doing a cleanup of impulse buys is great every once in a while, but once you start selling you can also get "impulse sell".

I haven't gone as far as selling all of my stuff, but I've probably sold about 25% of my stuff, and I have drastically decreased the number of items I am preordering, and dropped down to just 3-4 lines I really, really like.

I sincerely hope you are not thinking of selling your toys to create savings to live on for a year.

Not that selling your toys is the problem but if you don't already have savings to float you while you figure your shit out. Then you will be in trouble.

Also this is probably the worst time to try to find a new job. Shit is fucked at the moment. If you have a steady decent paying job then stick with it and take a week or two off vacation.

Maybe you could just get rid of the stuff you dont care for as much? I recently was stressed at my job and realized having all these toys near me was making things worse. I cleaned up and got rid of stuff I didnt care for. It helped destress and declutter a little bit.

Make good use of your weekends (and if you have a "mental health" or sick days) to analyze your collection and other expenses. Play with your toys and think about why you buy them. I've bought things because they're rare too, but i just end up not caring about them.

I sold about half of my collection, stopped buying anything new full stop; and was about to put 75% of what's left on sale too untill some fuckers starting bombing my home and I was forced to leave everything behind. Now I have collection of the size of zero items and while I'm not happy, I certainly don't miss any of it.

Realizing how much Japanese imports and online purchasing encourage sickness is the first step. You jump on things in fear of missing out and the secondary prices becoming too much. You spend nearly $100 on side character because you must complete a collection. you buy a figure of a girl character because her ass looks nice. You buy the karate bugman because it looks cool. Now you've got a room full of boxes you can't throw out, figures you brought on impulse because you didn't want to miss out. And you tell yourself this is ok because you can get the money back on resale so its ok to buy more.

And no, I'm not saying Japanese toys or imports are bad or bad to collect( I mainly buy them myself), but they encourage a TON of unhealthy decisions(and the US market is moving towards this as they move to online releases and less availability time.). Not having that tangibility where you pick up the figure, walk it to the register, and drive it home are a large part of why people having purchases they regret. You know what they tell sleepwalkers to do to curb the habit? Surround themselves with things that will trigger noises and tangible sensations to snap them out of their sleep. You need something to wake you up.

What..? Classically, impulse buys are what people regret, and consumerism is pretty much set up to get you to buy something without thinking about it by placing the product in front of your face for immediate gratification.

Its also much easier for people to do this since the vast majority of people are paying with Credit or debit cards these days, so the money is totally hands-off and to get your instant gratification all you have to do is pull out a small plastic square, swipe it through the machine, and you get your dopamine hit.

Ordering things online is the same as the above, but you don't even get the instant gratification because for most stuff, you're waiting months if not years to actually receive the item. Even if it is something that is in-stock, it may take days or even weeks to get it to you.

It's like when you have physical money in your wallet vs using your debit or credit card, and you're less likely to make a purchase that you really don't need if you're using physical money. You put more thought by having a physical/visible good vs some abstract concept.

Also, because humans are such stupid fucking animals who like to hoard shit, having a tangible good to hold and take up space is going to hit that CONSOOMer itch better vs buying shit online and waiting a week to get it, which means you still haven't scratched that CONSOOMer itch, which makes you buy something else, because that thing you bought still hasn't come into your physical realm of taking up space.

Also also, seeing shit in person is super fucking important. Sometimes you see someone post some amazing thing, but in person, it's actually pretty disappointing.
Its like when everyone laughed and raved over rape woody, but most people sold that shit in a week because it's just a stupid meme and you realize it'll get old before you even open the packaging.
