Every hero is a variant or Hypno
Snakes all lost the gimmicks that made me want them in the first place
Besides Spikor, the only thing I'm currently wanting to buy is the Skeletons, but they're most likely not retail so they fall outside what I'm talking about. MC exclusives might be the only place we see anything hype for the next year

Did y'all know that the reason the "He-Man" toy line hit shelves in 1989 but The New Adventures of He-Man didn't air until 1990 is that Mattel tried to get Filmation to do the new line's cartoon but they went bankrupt first? It was going to be called He-Man and the Masters of Space. Skeletor's background as a non-Eternian demon was going to be expanded upon with the introduction of his sister Skeletrix to the Primus/Denebria setting. She was going to have comic relief kids named Funnybone and Honeybone.

Oof. I thought Scheimer and Sutherland had made a system where they needed to sell a 65-episode cartoon each year to pay the employees and stay solvent and fumbled after Bravestarr. But Westinghouse bought them in 1981 and just randomly shut them down one day in 1989 as corporate housekeeping on the L'Oreal sale. Ouch.

>>10020769 They had pitched several series for '88, including a BraveStarr spinoff series called Bravo of the Prairie People (supposedly a pilot exists), and a younger-skewing show called Bugzburg. These weren't picked up mostly because no one wanted to pay for American animation when you could get the same/better results from studios sourcing all the labor from overseas. What's ironic is that supposedly Scheimer was about two weeks away from a decision to do the same (Filmation was the first studio to outsource when they tapped TMS to do the animation for Zorro when they were overbooked).

Thanks to anons in last thread decided to give She-Ra a 2nd chance after giving up on it a long time ago Anyways liked it more than I thought I would and anons were right, first couple episodes suck and season 1 is kind of whatever but after that I started to get weirdly sucked in Likes: - Entrapta is super cute and is a delight in every scene shes in - Horde Prime is really cool. This show manages to make the Horde actually feel like a war and constant threat - I liked that it had arcs and something to say and lots of character moments. I feel like most MotU shows are just punchy punch and not much else - Watching Catra become more and more mean/evil was oddly fun to see - Adora is actually pretty interesting - The humor at times is really charming - Double Trouble was weirdly cool - Show actually managed to make me feel for Hordak. Its funny cause he doesnt even seem like that terrible of a guy until Catra pushes him - Scorpia is really cute What I didnt like - Frosta and Perfuma suck. They dont really do anything and they just have barely any character (I give mermista a pass cause shes fun at least) - Some episodes feel really pointless - The last season feels a bit rushed and I feel like Catra needed more time to flip sides - The art style isnt great and the animation is whatever but after a while I stopped noticing - The first season is REALLY childish and feels like a kids show, genuinely confusing why the tone 180s so hard about mid way in. Feels like completely different writers worked on it. - No Mantenna is deeply upsetting im gonna be honest. They had Grizzlor and Leech at least as BG characters and Tung Lashor got to be cool so where is Mantenna? Or Rattlor? - The world building is whatever - The ending is REALLY rushed, its satisfying sure but things end really suddenly - Glimmer is REALLY annoying at the start. She gets more interesting later but god shes insufferable early on. - Fuck Light Hope, hated her so much - We needed more Entrapdak

>>10021144 Careful, anon. That's how it starts. Next thing you know you're setting a reminder for when figures go on sale on Mattel's site. It's a slippery slope. Although I still don't really buy any who are "just a guy" unless they have an interesting theme, like Jitsu. But then, once you have Jitsu, you gotta get Fisto and it just kind of snowballs from there. Because if you have Fisto then you gotta get the horse. And the horse comes with a base plate that goes with the castle so you start considering whether you have room for it.

>>10022969 The one thing that's pretty amazing about Classics is the solidly sharp sculpting and the amount of paint on the figures. It's like looking at old McFarlane figures, the amount of paint is really amazing compared to what we get today. Aside from that, some people like the aesthetics (they're kind of similar to vintage toys in that they're inhumanly bulky). And also the collection is massive, so if people have a ton of them, makes sense they'd want more.

>>10022149 That... is a very interesting development
The regular He-Man box art doesn't really go into his origin much, so it doesn't TECHNICALLY conflict with anything, but if they're meant to be in the same continuity then it's an even more drastic departure than we were expecting.

>>10022969 I've liked Masterverse from the outset (including the Revelation Skeletor it seems some people hated) but even though it drags MOTU into the contemporary action figure world there's a fit and finish to Classics that I'm not sure Masterverse has approached or ever will at its price point. Obviously minor stuff like mold marks or plastic flash are baked into any mass market production, but things like sharpness in sculpt and paint are where Classics consistently excelled give or take Mattel's QC. And even the appeals to modernity haven't been the smoothest in execution. The torso joints in Masterverse haven't been worth much at all for example, and other joints have been a little awkward to use (swappable hands are nice, but can we not get vertical hinges?) or have had odd tolerances. The ankle rockers seem slightly worse than in Origins, even.
I like Masterverse more than Classics and Origins both, but I can see how someone could look at Masterverse as a lateral move or even a downgrade from Classics. Masterverse has gotten better with time, but I don't think it'll ever be Classics 2.0 for the people that really like Classics.
Anonymous
>>10022969 Classics is sort of a "once you get them in hand you know" thing. The sculpting and detailing are great. The articulation is decent for the designs (adding double joints is not going to increase their range of motion, and other changes is going to affect the sculpt of the figure). But Classics also really felt like a real modern take on all the old toys- plus it expanded to include so many things the vintage toyline didn't do. Now, for a modern collector, they are too expensive to really justify collecting. I only paid over $100 once for any figure in my collection (the original Shadow Weaver).
Classics are more like the Origins toys. Once you get one or two, you generally end up liking them to collect some more- oh yeah, gotta get all the Horde, oh shit Snake Men, etc. But yeah, I do think it's more of a you had to be there thing, however, that did last 10 years.

I tend to look at things on a toy by toy basis, and as of now, I can say none of the Masterverse He-Mans hold a candle to Classics He-Man...but that 40th anniversary Skeletor looks better to me than Classics Skeletor. Classics has a better Stinkor, Evil-lyn, Hordak...but Masterverse just put out what I consider a superior Beast Man and when that Two Bad comes out, I think it'll be better than Classics, so if they keep going in that direction, they might overcome Classics some day. Lower torso replacing the straight swivel with a ball could also give a bit of extra crunch and tilt as well. They've been using this kind of articulation since the original WWE Elites and DCUC, so I guess it's tried and true, but it could be improved quite a bit and make the figures a lot more expressive.

Question for our resident photo takers: You ever find yourself planning to skip a figure because you either never liked the character or just find the figure disappointing, but then think of a fun picture set that would require them so buy them anyway?

>>10028067 >Who do your think they should do next? Based on those leaks I think Revolution Skeletor (unless it's just Horde Skeletor from the brief flashback) and Prince Adam. It'll be cool to see how they handle the much less bulky Adam, and also curious about his accessories. Maybe he could come with Orko or Cringer.
From S1, I'd like to see the villains. Clawful, Blast-Attak, Whiplash, particularly because they all look unique in the show compared to usual. I'd also like Sorceress Teela from the good guy side, again because it's a really unique look to Teela. I'm sure once a NE Teela comes she'll have that classic with updates look, so no need for the regular Teela, for example. I'd also really like time-skip MAA with the cape and what not. Was probably my favorite look for the good guys on the show.
Anonymous
>>10028359 Didn't we already get regular Teela?
Honestly, interesting that New Eternia didn't do obvious guys like Teela, Man-At-Arms or Evil-Lyn yet. Feels like they're trying not to step on Revelation's toes.
Wonder if it would be hard for Whiplash to sport both vintage and cultist look on toy.

I wonder about with Blast Attak as well...since we never saw a non-cult version, would they give him a removable cult collar so you could give him a more traditional look, or just make it part of the sculpt?

>>10028368 >Didn't we already get regular Teela? >>10028398 Well for Revelation I was referring to Sorceress Teela. For NE Teela I was just going by what they'll probably eventually do, which is use some old concepts for her (probably accentuate the snake motif now that I think about it) with extra bits on top of a more classic look, which is how other NE figures have been handled for the most part.
And yes we had the pre time skip Teela from Revelation, same as MAA, but that hardly excludes them from getting made in other iterations. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to get a NE of either, or maybe even CGI (I do wonder how deep they'll go with that subline, the uniqueness and lack of reusability of each character definitely might make them hesitate to make more).

>>10029295 Makes sense, since even though this is basically NE Sun-Man in that he's so different from the Vintage, just like Pig-Head, it's still a Rulers of the Sun figure, just like I'd expect a Revelation figure's bio to reflect the Revelation version of the character.
About Jitsu, I've definitely given that some thought and ya, figured he'd start in a reverse grip and probably use it that way. His primary weapon is still probably his chopping right, so I assume he'd probably use his sword more defensively as well. Plus slashing quickly with the reverse grip if using the right hand defensively.
If we ever got more lore I'd love to hear about how he got the hand. His bio says "mistrusted as a thief", implying that he isn't actually one, but maybe he was punished like he was, like getting his hand cut off. So how he came across this golden hand and armor would be interesting. Maybe He-Man had some stuff from Gretori aboard his ship and outfitted Jitsu with them. Would definitely love to learn more.

This place functions if there are things to talk about. Only recent thing to talk about is Jitsu's allegiance in NE, but even then most don't seem to want to talk much lore, even when directly tied to toys.
Anonymous
>>10031076 A lot of the hype around Origins died when they started abandoning action features. Right now it's really low because the next wave doesn't have much going for it. Grizzlor is releasing today, but he's technically a rerelease, which limits the hype around him even if most people didn't get the first release. Masterverse should have more interest right now, but I think a lot of people are still reluctant to go in on that because the line's reputation was tarnished by a weak first year. Then the other thing is that summer ended so the board lost a bunch of underage posters. That's addition by subtraction.
Anonymous
>>10031224 The entire next year, even not taking features into account, seems really disappointing.
Almost every hero will be a variant of characters we already have
Almost every villain is a Snake, which is great if you like that faction for itself, but if you're more into Evil Warriors or Horde you're left out for the year or if you're main attraction to Snakes was the features that they're dropping, there's not much to keep you invested
Anonymous
>>10031216 >even then most don't seem to want to talk much lore, even when directly tied to toys. I do. I'm just temporarily giving the one or more dudes who complain every time the ghost town they'd prefer.

We also don't know if the Mexican Amazon leaks are all the basics for the back half of the year or what. After all, there's no Snake Face leak.
So at minimum, we should be getting the likes of Hypno and someone like Sy-Klone, plus there could be a deluxe Heroic Warrior in the next pair (though I'd prefer DB Skelly/Blast Attak).
