The ability of flight is key here, if it's something that can stay in mid-air briefly but can't sustain being in the air for an extended period of time it doesn't count. Also, mechs that can operate in both the earth's atmosphere and space are fine, but mechs that only operate in outer space are not eligible.

I'd recommend masking and using a rattlecan, priming optional. I really do not recommend handbrushing metallics ever, beyond a few such as molotow (but those are very specific use case paints)

Yes it's called using a brush
You don't really need primer if you're just doing small details

My chisels just came in. First time doing this shit. Practicing scribing now on a gm that I randomly found in my closet. The one with the panel wash is my first attempt looks really shitty. The one on the left is my 2nd attempt. A little cleaner but still gotta work on it.

It's lacquer based and if you prime with lacquer based primer (as most do) the primer dissolves it slightly, enough to make the lines you just filled stand out again. So you need to refill and reprime. It gets old pretty quick.

In defense of my putty I need to mention that I am only on the 2nd tube of the stuff now, so a tube lasted me about 8 years and I was using it in almost every project to fill some fairly large gaps during that time.

The thing I don't like about CA is that you can never quite predict how much a blob of it shrinks when it dries (usually more than you expect) so I don't usually use it in place of putty.
However, it is nice for tightening joints you just made 0.05mm too loose.

I know, I've had problems with shrinking CA glue on this project too, pic related has been perfect for fixing fucked seam welds though and it mostly should be fine for panel lines and details you want to delete.

How good is putty really for fixing scribing mistakes? I mean - if you fill the bad scribe with putty and then try to scribe again on that surface, isn't putty going to behave different than plastic? Isn't the chisel going to cut much deeper into the putty than into plastic, leaving you with uneven line depth? Or even worse - crack?

if you like the funky proportions it's one of the best HG RX-78 kits. I personally find how it looks repugnant so it's not for me.
the three best HG kits for RX-78 are the Origin, Beyond Global and G40. it's just a matter of picking which you think looks best.

you're doing something wrong if vallejo primer isn't smooth enough for you, if you spray it right it shrinks and conforms to the surface and ends up smoother than pretty much any other primer on the market. you probably just need to thin it more and not spray it on as thick. you could also try their mecha primer line, it's thinner than the regular surface primer and sprays perfectly out of the bottle through a 0.4mm needle, and it's also much more durable than the regular surface primer

If it is just dry to touch most flat colors you can touch them pretty much the minutes after painting

For gloss you have wait at least few hours
Any that is like gold and silver at least wait half a day because they dry the slowest

If you have a water kettle that keep water hot 24 I recommend you put your parts on the top of the kettle to use the dry heat

Salvaged my busted up Kampfer. Really not that happy with the Deep Metallic Blue I used; when the light hits it just right it's amazing but the rest of the time it's way too fucking dark. After I clear my backlog I might strip it and try again with a lighter shade of metallic blue. Also his thighs were way too messed up to use, and the hip pegs with too damaged to support anything so I basically had to swap out his whole pelvis.

Good question! I have no idea. Most of my old kits like this one are in real bad shape. A wardrobe fell on the box they were in during a move years ago and pulverized the lot, so best guess is that his head was obliterated and tossed out.

On both pieces I used painter's tape to mask off areas that would go deep inside the finished model anyway and be unseen. These are literally the first pieces of plamo I have ever painted. What do you think? Don't be afraid to stop me now from some terrible bad habit.

I actually miss the days when zoids had a lot of smaller military vehicles to accompany them, that used to be part of their diorama sets and stuff. and by 'miss' i mean 'i was an infant at the time, but i've seen pictures'

anyway for those not in the know, Zoids have kinda split into two branches now, the stupidly-small-pieces high-end model kits that cost a billion dollars and have crummy spindly proportions, and vastly-simplified ones for younger kids, with the parts all separated out for you and/or parts of it prebuilt, with crummy -stubby- proportions... and I think that's a big mistake. In particular the latter don't even mostly have very good designs, with a lot of ugly weird Skeksis-esque beaky faces on their dinosaurs

but some chinamen apparently took the skeletons of these and designed new, more fitting armor pieces for them, turning them into different dinosaurs, and I just ordered me a quartet of em. They're pretty swell, the only thing better would be for them to put normal 1/72 cockpits back in, but that's asking a bit much.

As for how it's coming along. I'm nearly done. Obviously it's far from perfect as I don't exactly have the steadiest hands (+ I'm still new to painting) and I probably should've used lacquer green instead of the acrylic I've had mixed in a jar for weeks but oh well. I really wish I knew where I put my panel lining marker. I tried using a felt tip pen but it is not at all the same thing lmao

Yes, that's all. But despite being old, these MGs are pretty good. I've built God and Spiegel, God is almost perfect, the only real downside is lack of hip swiwel because it's only a simple balljoint. There always wasn't enough just a little bit of movement to get poses I wanted. Also, it lacks super mode halo but other than that, I've really enjoyed the kit. Spiegel is pretty good too, but not as good as God because dark plastic leaves noticeable nubmarks and it's kinda boring in terms of accessories, I wish it came with kunais, net and hands that throw them.

That's the thing. Either they truly had no idea it was coming, the employee lied and didn't even check before telling me it wasn't in one of their incoming stocks, or they previously lied to me when they told me they don't do "custom stock requests" due to how many times people requested stuff, then never bought it when it came in. I hope it's just the first, cuz the people who work there are chill as fuck. Owner is a 70 year old dude who does everything from wood and plastic flight models, trains and gundams himself.

Ah, noted. I wonder what would be the gripe of a possible gripe of a MG Zaku II Origin compared to the 2.0. In the case of RX-78-2 people say that the shoulders are a tad bit narrower compared to the other versions, but I still think you can make them bigger with a bit of plaplate and effort.

Got these in. Building one a day to spread out the happiness, but here's the first one.. I guess I'll call it Parasaudos. when you fold something noncanonical into your line you've gotta make it sound like it fits in, right?
only downside is the big honkin feet. the cover on the instructions and the box show redesigned, smaller, three-toed feet, but the actual kit just recycles the sprue unchanged from Pachycedos aside from the head crest, so yknow. Not too bad, but disappointing, given that redesigning questionable parts of the Tomy designs is part of why I got these in the first place.
oh and the instructions are full of great bits like "Just put it on" and "Take out eyes" and it congratulates you with "Start the mechanical dinosaur and try it!"
Now I need to really open my old zoids spare parts box because this guy is completely unarmed aside from his headbutting blades. Bet I could scratchbuild him some okay weapons..

I still think the OYW 2.0 kits are some of the best kits ever made, and better than a lot of modern kits. an updated version of them that replaced the ABS runners with modern PS and gave some fixed pose trigger/holding hands would btfo 90% of MGs made in the last decade.
