Anything made before the 2000s, and preferribly old 5POA, but anything from the 80's and 90's is fine. Kenner was really killing it in that period.

This was a pretty solid line. There was a time when I had every single Xenomorph from the line. I was considering going back and collecting only my favorites and then picking up all the Space Marines and vehicles.

What was up with the World of Batman line? I never really saw these figures, and I don't usually see much on them online, other than their ridiculous paint jobs. But they made some new heads for both Bruce Wayne and Joker just for this line.

Kenner really seemed to want this to become something like C.O.P.S. or G.I. Joe. The toyline actually outlived the cartoon, which didn't have enough toy synergy until the final episode when the Ultra Police finally appear. And the main team of villains, who the toyline makes out to be like Robocop's equivalent to Cobra, which are known as The Vandals only appear in 2 episodes and barely resemble the figures, and they're led by Chainsaw instead of Headhunter, the character that the toys state is their leader, while Chainsaw is just one of his henchmen.

The toys would benefited from some file cards since the cartoon drops the ball on introducing so many characters.

The grappling hook weapon that comes with Superboy's VTOL cycle is the same as the one that comes with Eddie Carr from The Lost World toyline, but is a completely different sculpt.

my favorite part of the line are the vehicles. every one of them is just fucking stellar. to date, I've never seen so much effort poured into one line's vehicles. that blend of 50's retrofuturism and 1980s excess just lends itself nicely to the toyline overall. I think the line fails on two fronts for me though. For starters, despite the dozens of robocops they released, none of them have any real uniformity with the vehicles. They're all great robocops on their own, but I'd have killed for a set of Robo and the Ultra Police that were actually cohesively uniformed. My second gripe being the ultra police themselves. You'd think it would be easy for Kenner of all companies to come up with visually interesting companions for robo outside of just Ann Lewis. Instead we just ended up with these weyland-yutani centurion wanna bes. Kenner was very close to striking gold here, but I get the vibe those two points soured everything. It's much easier to sell a robocop than it would be to sell "birdman barnes". If we're lucky maybe Lanard grabs the license sometime in the future and gives us a second shot at the ultra police concept.

speaking of toy island's robocop, I dont think anyone ever went this hard with robo before or since. they had a few oddball repaint and variant waves after the live action series came to an end in the mid 90s. Emergency Response being my favorite of the lot.

a few years ago I sat through a few episodes of the "ultra police" toon and I was surprised to see how little synergy there was. Like this was right after that first film, by all means the writers should have nailed everything. But there's so much fluff and nonsense in the show. It genuinely feels like in-universe OCP propaganda at times. Especially with the sappy way Robocop is written along with all the silly scenarios he gets into. My most distinct memory of the show is when they imply McNamara to be a cybernetically enchanced Clarence Boddicker. The only thing that compares to that is the shit they pulled in prime directives. Frankly Im surprised we never got toys of Cable.

The sheer quantity of Robocops Toy Island put out is absolutely maddening, especially considering I was never able to get one as a kid. They didn't just do variants that weren't even that different from each other, they just had different accessories like one had a jetpack, another had the recharging chair, etc. but they did them in multiple scales, too!

It's a custom repaint of a Ultra Police Robocop to make him look like the movie. He's next to a repainted custom Toybiz Batman. It was hard to find good photos of the figures next to eachother for Batman and Robocop.

My criticisms for the line more so focus on the villains. It's cool that you get Biker guys, but I remember as a kid not caring about any of them except ED-260, Dr. McNamara, Scorcher, and Toxic Waster. Chainsaw, Nitro, and Headhunter are just random criminals for Robocop to arrest, but don't look all that exciting. The Ultra Police themselves all have special armor and helmets, and I think the badguys should have also gotten some sci-fi gear. The reasons why Scorcher and Toxic Waster are good is precisely because of that: they get cool masks and weapons that make them like unique super villains. Dr, McNamara is also the only cyborg, when there should have been characters such as that Kenner original figure "Cyber-Grip" from the Terminator 2 line, with the grabbing claw.

As for the Ultra Police themselves, they're relatively ok to me, but there was little reason for me to care about them, because there was only a single episode of media the series 1 characters, and the two new ones for series 2 never appear in anything. The line would have greatly benefited from filecards that provided bios on everyone.

It feels like with the toys Kenner was making a movie line and took a bunch of liberties to make the characters more exciting, because Dr. McNamara is a character similar to Dick Jones and the Vandals are similar to Clarence Boddicker's men. And they give us a Peter Weller unmasked head and what appears to be an Anne Lewis modeled off the movie actress instead of the cartoon's version of Lewis. And ED-260 is NOT THE VERSION FROM THE SHOW. In the cartoon ED-260 is different in appearance from ED-209, but the figure is just ED-209. They also give us a Sergeant Reed which is interesting, so they had the main cast from the first movie all there. And in advertisements they use the movie and not the Sunbow cartoon that was supposed to be the tie-in.

I collected them as a kid, but I felt they were burdened by being too close to the TV series source material. I only bought three figures from the line and each one was just Robocop. They didn't any cool villains for him to fight and the secondary characters looked too series and boring, as if I were suddenly collecting Star Trek figures, because of how they were trying to so accurately reflect the tv show. The vehicles were nice though, but more so as items I can appreciate as a collector which seemed to be the market they were trying to focus on.

Of the Vandals these 3 are the best ones. Chainsaw, the guy in the middle was changed into the leader of the group for the cartoon, when all the Kenner toys state that Headhunter is their leader. There's even a few Vandals in the cartoon who didn't have figures.

Scorcher and Toxic Waster were almost in the second series of Swamp Thing figures, which is confusing on if they were cut from Swamp Thing and put into Robocop, or if the figures were being repurposed from Robocop and put into Swamp Thing, because the Robocop line ended 2 years before the Swamp Thing line, so they couldn't have cancelled the Swamp Thing line and then put them in Robocop. They either just wanted some more Robocop baddies or were double dipping for some quick molds for Swamp Thing.

more than likely it was this. kenner was no stranger to parts reuse. anytime they could get away with it they would. famously there were a few examples of this in the RGB line that never made it to production. there was an entire planned subline focused on reutilizing assets from their failed police academy toyline. one of the ideas was to convert some police transport truck to a ghostbusters firetruck. If I had the pic Id share it, it was an ingenious concept. If sony wasnt so braindead with their use of the brand, I could easily see such a thing having come into use in a sequel series to EGB.

at this point the only way we could get a truly toyetic robocop series is by creating somekind of pastiche homage character. ideally I'd want a series that takes the established characteristics of Weller's Robocop and places them in a world like Jiban's, Batman Beyond's, or TMNT. I find that the common mistake made in most supplementary robocop media is an overall tonal shift from hyperviolent bleak brutality to forgettable sappy melodrama. Worse yet, because they always want to stand toe to toe with the first two films, you end up with most of the focus going to Robo rather than any of it going to new potential villains. So you end up with a forgettable superhero that has no interesting villains to tangle with.
Kane and Boddicker are pretty much the only good villains Robo has ever directly had despite OCP's looming prescence. A proper series would have logically utilized OCP as the catalyst for many new villains in the vein of either GiJoe's Cobra or tmnt's mutagen. Imagine Wellercop going full cyber-cowboy as he's made to face off against the likes of genetically modified monsters, rogue cyborg contemporaries, domestic terrorists. and rogue revolutionaries alike. The franchise demanded a metaphorical gumbo of Judge Dredd, Ninja Turtles, capeshit, and cowboy tropes and instead we got stuck with saturday morning table scraps time and time again.

There's a really awesome tank that never saw production sadly. It had a place up top to store a figure, with the seat having a cut out spot so you could use the cap firing action on the figure along with cap firing action on the tank. It could also hold a prisoner and had footpegs for some other Ultra Police to ride along.

That's the plan. I'm going to pick up hopefully the rest of the Vandals out of my next check, and maybe pick up Anne Lewis and Sgt Reed. And if I have enough cash get some more dios, which wont be until next week. Then I'm going to focus on getting a regular Robocop and vehicles. In the time in between I may also pick up that Hiya Cain and ED-209 due to their compatible scale, and also because I want a Cain figure.

Hasbro killing Kenner is the most depressing shit. They were a Cincinnati company for 6 decades, Hasbro bought them and let them run for a while, then killed them off. They offered people to join them, but it'd have meant uprooting a lot of people's lives after decades. They are. It's a shame the Terminators are out of scale with other Kenner figures. A lot of the other lines are compatible in scale, so I was treating it as sort of a universe due to the figures sharing a scale and sometimes accessories and vehicles.

I'd anhero if I had to experience something like that. That shit would be enough to ruin my year. I dont know if it will scale well with the other Kenner Robos, but super7 made their own GITD robo some time ago. Maybe look into buying that.

The area he was broken at was a thin strip of plastic used to accommodate the cap firing mechanism. The translucent plastic became weak over time and stress cracked I'm assuming along the shoulder area and upper torso.

I thought about the Super7 one, but I don't think he'll scale right. I have a few G.I. Joe Reactions and they're smaller than the Kenner Robocop figures. It's interesting that despite three different companies doing a glow-in-the-dark Robocop based off the Kenner figure, that only Super7 one went and gave him the metallic blue paint like he's supposed to have. I wish Hiya or Nece would re-do theirs with new arms along with the blue paint and red visor.

This probably isn't even old enough to really be boomer but I remember these Bible action figures being around when I was a kid. Goliath was about 12" tall so I'm not sure what the exact scale for the regular figures were from memory, so I'll take a guess that they were 6" scale. They weren't bad, they had had softgoods accessories and were very poseable, with bungie corded shoulders and hips. They all came with a little picture book kind of like the early He-Man figures.

Even Pixel Dan did a video on him; he's just an interesting looking figure, and I remember as a kid the first time I saw him sitting on the pegs of a large wall filled with these figures at Children's Palace, and picking out this one specifically. The the broken piece conveniently just slots back in. I'm thinking about just buying a new bottle of Loctite Go 2 Glue, and just gluing it in place to restore him. I used it before on G.I. Joes for customs, so it'll likely hold and be sturdy.

As an adult I find the amount of part reuses hilarious. I haven't really considered picking them up, but they do appeal to me and have their own certain charm and have a unique place in toy history as a memorable line if only for how much Kenner got away with on their reuse.

Continuing on my train of thought for Ghostbusters and Kenner, I decided to pick up one of the Real Ghostbusters Classics from Entertainment Earth. I resolved to pick up Egon since he was my favorite figure in the line when I was a kid. Peter was my second favorite. I had been meaning to get in on the Kenner Real Ghostbusters line for ages, but was always put off by how hard it was to find figures that weren't beaten up on ebay.

Anyway, it's all part of my plan to build up a Kenner shared universe. And the fact that they re-issued the entire first series of the line, and that people are still producing customs expanding out the line made me want to take a dip in.

There's even some guys who produces new ghost figures for the line.

I just purchased a Power Pack Heroes Janine from The Real Ghostbusters. She was in one of the last waves and was the fourth Janine figure produced in the line. What makes her a fun figure in my mind is she's the most accurate to what her classic cartoon version looked like, although they gave her an interesting bright 90's outfit, with wacky ghost catching gear, which she wears on her back as a proton pack that holds ghosts in a cage like a trap, along with a grabber claw to physically grab the ghosts. The backpack then combines with the claw and turns into a go-cart she can hop in and drive around in.

She was on my list of things to pick up when my Robocop arrived and was broken due to a form of clear plastic syndrome(RIP). I will be picking up another one.

It's a good way to buy into the line. I was going to pick up the Firehouse eventually and work on getting some Haunted Humans and the Monsters.

I know the streams consistently broke on the vintage toys, but I feel less worried about these Kenner Classics. The figures are new sculpts made to look like the vintage figures, and they use better plastics and paints today than they did in the 80's. If you put one these figures up next to a vintage figure you'd notice the subtle differences. Same goes for the Ecto-1 from the reviews I've seen; the proportions are even subtly different(because it's an original sculpt based on the vintage one). I already have one of the figures, and there's even slight fixes such as the clips on the proton pack being thicker so they don't break as easy, and the packs plugging into the back with a different design.

When I picked up the Classics reissues, I thought about buying a second Ecto-1 and repro Ecto-1A stickers to turn the second one into Ecto-1A and then buying some of the vintage neon colored variants to crew her with, but I pretty much forgot about that idea until just now

I'm a little surprised that Hasbro never bothered with a reissue of the firehouse.

Then again, they'd have to had sold it pretty cheap because the last time I looked on ebay you could get one in a decent shape for 200 dollars and you might even get one with the box for that much so they wouldn't be able to charge that much.

I've thought about buying a vintage firehouse anyway for that reason, but the international shipping is what does it in for me.
