Were your parents into collecting toys? My dad recently died, me and my brother inhered his collection of Action Figure magazines and random toys from the past 40 years.

My dad used to collect both model cars at various scales, and had a massive collection of diecast cars as well. Used to watch him build his model kits and he'd show me the ropes when I was barely 6 on how to handle a knife and paints. Grew up surrounded by hundreds of Johnny Lightning and Hot Wheels and every other brand. He'd bring me to TRU in the 90s, tell me to go find something cool, and when I grabbed a Gundam or a TF, he'd be standing at the end of the aisle with 3 or 4 cars in hand for himself. Still remember him putting back a box set so I could get TM2 Megatron.
He sold off and gave away almost all of it about ten years ago when i moved out and he had to move in with my grandma to take care of her, but I snuck away a few boxes of the best stuff. Gave it to him last year for Christmas and thanked him for getting me into collecting as a whole. Last time we went for lunch he stopped in to meet our new cats and we spent 10 minutes just looking over my stuff and him telling me how cool some of it is and how he wishes he still had the drive to collect, despite our tastes in toys being so different.
Love my dad. Think I'll call him up and get lunch with him this week.

Nah, my dad had to make his toys.sticks, rocks, stuff like that. Pretty good since it helped me develop imagination, I used to pretend the huge wire nuts were spaceships and stuff when I rode with him doing HVAC jobs.

I bet the ToyFare magazines are nostalgic
I know my dad collects golf stuff and my mom used to collect some dolls. They dont do that as much now. It was cool to see growing up. As a kid theyd get me cool toys, mostly Legos and Star Wars toys. I dont think neither of my parents have an idea of how large my full toy collection is now though.

Thats cool, did he make like statues or small carved figurines? Wittling is tough, I tried it for a little bit, takes a lot of dexterity and patience.

It was extremely funny because my dad recently lost his dog to a botched operation, and was adamant that he was too old to want a new dog. Then upon having one of my new kittens run up to him when he came into the apartment and begging to be picked up, he went home and spent the next weekend looking at shelters.

Similar thing here. My dad does model nascars. We did a batman and robin set together once when I was real young but I think I wasn’t enjoying (because I was stupid kid and didn’t cherish the moment) so we never finished. We build one of those programmable lego robots too, I think the vid of us playing around with it is still somewhere on the internet. He did spark my interest in comic books at a young age though. Always got me a subscription to Archie for Christmas, introduced me to farside, clavin and hobbes, pogo, mad magazine. Man you should see his mad collection, it’s MASSIVE.

Grandmother on my dad's side collected cabbage pal kids. One room in her house was floor to ceiling shelves of them. I think she had them all. The room was creepy as fuck. Just a room full of those things looking at you.

My mom used to collect cabbage patch kids as well. Didn't have too many as far as I remember, but I recall going to the "Babyland General Hospital" with her on one of her birthdays. Miss her a lot.
