How are some people not good at posing action figures? That sounds like something you just do. It's like not being good at drinking water or something.

its like anything else in life, if you don't earnestly try, its not going to look good. I have friends who pop a figure out of the packaging, and pose it with a fist out and call it a day and then when I post a picture of the same figure that I spent a few minutes posing they are legitimately amazed and say shit like "i didnt know you could do that with this figure"

It's a skill in the same way it's a skill to get good poses in art and animation. There are a lot of subtleties to account for. Even small adjustments to angles of body parts create drastic differences in the way that we see motion or weight distributed. Artists spend tons of time developing an eye for this sort of thing.

I would say most people are bad at drinking water. People are bad at posing because they don't really understand how the body moves. I've seen people pose a figure walking and they have the leading arm and leg both in the same side. They've walked almost their entire life but somehow got that wrong.

Really, the best way to get good at posing is to start emulating other pictures of good poses, be it from other collectors, promo pics of figures, or poses from the source material. Try to emulate those as best you can and you'll eventually start to get better at it. Think about what looks natural to the human body.

You'll be surprised at how many people don't seem to intuitively grasp he basics of human anatomy and how little attention to detail they have. But as anything else, even if someone isn't naturally good are something, they can improve with practice.

while spidey is a lithe and flexible character, the chest is turned to the left a bit too far to an unnatural degree. also if you try and mimic his swinging arm with your own body, your elbow should be facing away your chest, not down

I'll add there isn't much of a natural flow to his body as though he was actually swinging. That said, it does look very sixties comic book, so I'd say if they were trying to emulate that they nailed it.

I just don't get how people get these cool poses without a stand, I try and make a cool pose and the figure flops over.
I deeply my figures with boring generic poses, because I don't want accidentally bump by shelf and my figures go tumbling.

A lot of these are posed for photos only though, most people arent dumb enough to display their figures in dangerous poses without a stand, it's a recipe for disaster.

NTA but a lot of what those images are pointing out are pretty similar to books about life drawing. In particular a book called "Drawing with Force". I use a lot of what I learn from drawing for posing my figures. Usually the key is to exaggerate and push angles to give contrast, while also creating rhythm and balance. I'm sure /ic/ has a link to download the book somewhere.
