Anybody else collect Cars toys, if not what do you think of them?
I thought of collecting a few after getting back into the hobby, and having a few as a child.
I always funny that they made toys of nearly every car, even if they appeared on screen for seconds.

Target has Matchbox on sale this week (singles, 5 packs, 9 packs), I picked up a few I waited on because I only wanted half of them and they inflated to 5.99, also somebody returned a mustang pack from 2013, i was pleasantly surprised.

they also had new JL OK used cars, but at every store some dickhead bought just ONE car out of the set(#3) and I don't want to buy an incomplete set, I still haven't found the super bee from the other set

Is this some kind of scam? I have also come across exceptionally old packs or cars in stores. I have heard stories of cars escaping the box in the backroom and going unfound for decades, only to be put out on the pegs when found because the people don’t know any better, but that can’t always be the explanation.

I’m not well versed in return policy, but surely there is a cutoff long before 2022 on a roughly 9 year old purchase

Personally, I wouldn't grab more than one of each, because; I'm content with opening, don't want doubles, and selling "hot" items usually attracts scammers that also want to "get rich quick"

it's hilarious that Mattel thinks "oh, we'll put 4 of each in a case, that'll be enough to go around!" and gets completely swiped by one party everytime. They should do a year end pack with all of the store exclusives in one box, but all the mega marks that've been mindraped by Mattel will say, "They're SUPPOSED to be impossible to find! That's the FUN part!"

Large collections are rarely sold in one lot. What do you have? Maybe you should organize them in a themed batches, and try to sell them this way.
P.s I've sold mine one by one, to make sure that i get the most out of it.

I don't really care how much I get out of it, even an extra couple hundred bucks isn't worth the time and effort it would take to list them one by one. I just want them to go to some other collector.
I have cars dating as far back as the 60s and as recent as this year.

None of the cars were anything of exceptional rarity, so I don’t believe a customer hid them up there. Instead, I feel like an employee stuck them up there for some reason, and then they were forgotten. The coupons I found imply the store staff was never cleaning that upper part of the shelves, so they just never were found.

I will never understand people who buy more than 1 car. I only by duplicates ify 1st car has a wheel defect once out of package, or if it’s a Kia because I always liked Kia designs and killed for the die cast brands to make one for years.

Besides that, only 1 licensed car each one I collect as a licensed car completist. No reason to buy 1 or 2 more unless for wheel defects, relatives, wheel swaps and customs, leave the rest for everyone else my guy

I used to love 1/18 scale. This Ertl Beetle was the first one I ever got and it blew my fucking 8-year-old mind. Had a couple of NASCAR ones, some Cadillacs, and a fucking stellar KITT from Knight Rider with working lights and gadgets, but sadly I sold him when I needed the cash. Made like 300% profit off it, though. The 1/18 market really died off, and a bunch of the ones I bought 15-20 years ago were worth some good money.

The funny thing is that it was right around the time when the EU did some new fuckery regarding packaging so AE blocked EU customers from accessing some shops that didn't sign some new EU eco packaging laws bullshit.
Had some wheels in the bookmarks that then went 404 so I contacted the seller there and he told me about that whole situation and was cool. Couple weeks later the issue was resolved, ordered the wheels and they came in a cute tiny transparent plastic box with a snaplock. Was one of my first purchases there and was kinda surprised how well it all went. Wouldn't buy big shit like smartphones from there but for scale car stuff it's incredible.

Yeah, if you can't afford them new at around 70 or even get them new at all it's basically game over. Scalpers always sit on the Otto site like hawks and then sell later for insane prices. The SL in that image was 59 bucks new on their outlet site in 2020. The 2000 are sold out long ago there and it's at 120 now from scalpers "new" and around 100 from individuals "used".

For the most part, no. Desirable cars are picked off the shelf immediately, and the undesirables are left behind for months.

There have been some exceptions though. For example, pic related was a standard mainline, however it’s special feature and the fact it was fully metal meant it wasn’t cheap to make. There were much fewer of these made compared to other mainlines that year. These days this is only used in premium lines

I wouldn’t say so. The biggest issue in this fandom is scalping boomers. None of them know how to act in public, they will demolish displays if it means getting to something first. Sure you might say that sounds like an autist, however they are usually your typical boomer when they aren’t raiding stores at 7am.

Diecast collecting is probably one of the most palatable toy collector hobby. Lots of normie /o/tists will collect cars they personally like for their shelves. It’s not unusual to see a well adjusted adult male buying a few hot wheels for themselves. If questioned it’s easily waved off as them either being some of their favorite cars, or possibly even a car they own a real version of.

Hard to say
Lego guys can be autistic but they pretty creative and make neat stuff. The ones that are obsessed with minifigs are annoying but that's Legos own fault they have been marketing the minifigs as overlly important to kids forat least two decades.
Transformers are pretty autistic in that they prefer the robot mode to the transform mode but then look down the ones that are just action figures of the robot mode with no transform as not real transformers. Also they go really into the details of every version of every character across all the parts of the franchise.
He-man and GI Joe fans are basically just nostalgia fags. I don't see the appeal of it if you didn't grow up with them.
I guess I'd ultimately give it to action figure guys or at least the capeshit ones that buy up every Marvel Legends or whatever. They complain about the quality but buy it anyway.

I think Funko collectors should be in this mix. They have licenses to more franchises than I care to count, which means there are certain to be some characters from franchises you have never heard of or simply do not care about. Yet hardcore Funko collectors have to own them all, regardless of how the characters appeal to them.

Mass collectors usually leave them in the boxes, not necessarily because of an investment mindset, but because having them in the box let’s you stack them up to your ceiling.

Most of the bigtime collectors are pretty maladjusted too, and are the type to get hostile towards store staff when they are unable to produce the figure they want. From what I have seen over the years, diecast boomers usually won’t get into it directly with store staff.

Why is it that RC cars are always in odd scales like 1/16, 1/10, 1/28 and so on on top of it with the most fucked up proportions? Are they intentionally doing this so you can't SIMPLY slap a scale car body on them? I mean everything is possible if you know how to tinker but being able to swap shit relatively easy would be nice here and there.
Wheel base is the smallest problem but if the width doesn't fit ... at that point you can just start from scratch making your own undercarriage.

Yes. Tons of people get into collecting stuff just looking to own the rarest things, to make a profit, or even simply to buy what's most popular just so they can garner approval from peers.

Most people have no fucking idea what their own actual opinions are and will do anything to avoid having to form one for themselves. This is why youtube reaction videos are a thing; people literally just want to be told what to feel so they can belong.
