I don't get why they just don't make a new One Piece S.H Figuarts line. I know the old one from way back when wasn't successful enough to get past 4 figures, but Sanji, the last one released, was leaps and bounds above Luffy, and they've improved so much since then. The demand is clearly there and they would scale with all the Figuarts Zero figures they've put out over the years.

I always thought the imagination works were a bit bigger but apparently the IW is 170mm and the VAH you posted is 175mm. The difference is probably just the bit of extra hair height so they're essentially the same.

Also these guys need to end the Luffy, Zoro, Law loop and do someone else.

I don't see the point of the rubber torso. the rubber is so strong that it won't let the joint in the torso do anything, and it looks bad when bent anyway.

So far, Imagination Works is going through that "early-installment weirdness" phase where Bandai is figuring out what to do with the toyline (no pun intended). The kinks will be worked out eventually, just give them about a decade.

VAH quality... the VAH Luffy looks like dogshit. Also incredibly late to the punch with these outfits. I just hope the next IW isn't Naruto.

I like the weird choices from VAH, and wouldn't mind them doing simple raid repaints of Sanji and Zoro. Would really like a Doffy, Kidd, or updated Law again.

Getting big characters is difficult, and exacerbated by the scale I imagine. Whitebeard really is more 1/12 scale, he looks good with Sentinel Ace but I've only seen a photo of them together once.

VAH does such strange choices and totally skips arcs. But we got Law from Zou... wooo. I would get an Admiral from them gladly.

So far, Imagination Works is reserved for the most profitable characters from the most profitable WSJ franchises. It's either Naruto, Demon Slayer, more Dragon Ball, or more One Piece.

He has decent enough articulation even with the torso gimmick nerfing the joint. For Luffy I prefer the uncut look for his chest scar. Defintiely would like the gimmick of the line to not be silicon or rubber skin, but soft goods and expressions.

I believe this was shown off before Luffy, its probably been abandoned. Luffy was originally the usual timeskip outfit before they changed it. Since they're using fabric for this line I'd imagine Piccolo is coming in the future if the line continues.

This is literally Bandai. I've been having a good time lately with smaller companies, many of which actually try to listen to community feedback and fix issues with their figures. Or at the very least take those lessons and use them to improve future releases.

I imagine Bandai is so monolithic it's one of those situations where the little guy designer might want to make sweeping changes, but it needs to run up this huge chain of bureaucracy and in the end it just gets buried under red tape and logistics and old, out-of-touch dudes sitting in positions of power.

This is probably it, probably a classic "Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence" thing. They have the resources and skill to make THE best toys on the market, but because they're so fucking big they can't just instantly course-correct, and as you mention red tape will be a massive problem.
I like Bandai but they aren't always the best for niche brands.

I think it's the age of the consumer. The audience that would want to would buy Char are like 60 now, and I think a lot of them don't even keep up with stuff like this anymore.

i don't own this Luffy, but most companies nowadays are not using actual rubber or silicone, or at least not the same types that they used to. I don't know quite what they're using, but it's something new. it feels different and has held up quite well so far. The RAH Eva 01 was the first milestone I really remembered, everyone was saying the arms would rot away but it's still going strong after a decade. Same for figures like 1000toys Hellboy. We'll see where we're at in another 10 years, but for now at least, it's clear they've found some better solution. The old seamless bodies could even die inside of a year if you had particularly bad luck, they never had this kind of longevity.
