Fortunately I keep the boxes so that helps with selling.
Like mentioned above I only try to get figs I have a connection to, and no completionism, for example, I have the z fighters from DBZ, but no Krillin cause I never really got into him. I've got some He-man and Skeletors, but none of the rest of the cast, etc.
My general rule is to only stick to the most classic version of a character in order to avoid getting lots of variants.
I also regurley go over my whole collection, I have a word document with pictures of all the figs I have (see example) so I can easily get an overview of what I have, what I want and want to get rid of (the section highlighted in red is stuff I'm gonna sell), it really helps with planning.
