I want to get the definitive Spider-Man figure, but I'm contemplating between the Amazing Yamaguchi and Mafex (pic related) offerings.
I was originally going to get the Renew Your Vows release, but I don't care about Spinneret and since I'm spending >50 USD, I might as well get an import. What do you guys prefer?

Mafex. If you prefer lighter colors get the new one. If you prefer darker see if you can track down an original release or the reissue. The reissue has more shiny blue which some people may prefer. It's down to personal preference.

my personal favorite "normal" spider-man at the moment is definitely the AY, but like other anons said, you really have to have the figure in dynamic poses if the sculpt bothers you. it's also spider-man though, so it's pretty easy to get him into one of those poses. here's him as one of the centerpieces for my display

When do you think a display is "too much"? For me it's any vehicles, or display signs, like that guy who can't pose uses. That's when it dips into cringe territory.

It's pretty close. Closer than those 1/12 bikes since like >>10046503 states, MLs are slightly larger than 1/12. Those bikes would work for most imports and some other Hasbro lines like Black Series, at least scale wise.

I don't see vehicles being a problem. Especially for someone like GR who's bike is a crucial part of his character. If displayed well they can be fine. I really like it when people display nicely done dioramas or scenes. Really gives a display an extra oomph. As for the cringey logos that the one guy uses, I'm not a fan. It looks really tacky. Same with display figures hanging from the ceiling. Having one or two figure hiding around the room or house is fine and can be fun, but when you have a bunch hanging from your ceiling it's a tad too much.

ModulayIM is absolutely great. They did a really good job with his possibility and he's just a really fun figure to have. My only gripe is I wish the gold was closer to the color they used for the 80th Iron Man. It really pops imo.

I customized a McFarlane vehicle with the intent to use when the retro carded Ghost Rider arrives, and I already have him planned with city-level heroes (potentially wanting to do a Midnight Suns display)

They come with a good set of accessories includinh effect pieces and a stand and they have really nice articulation with drop down joints in the torso and legs. The paint sculpt and details are really nice on the Iron Man suits. I heard the Spiderman figures are not as good.

People say they don't fit with ML and yeah with some characters they won't. I think depending on the character you're displaying them with they could maybe look fine. My Mk 5 and 3 ZD are about half an inch taller than the Modular. I have the ML mcu Mk 3 and I wish I had known about ZD before because the paint and detail on the ZD curb stomps it. I'd have not bought the ML if I had these beforehand. For me I don't mind the height difference. Tony being a man in a suit I can let a figure being a tad bit taller slide. Now if other figures from this company that weren't Ironman had the same size I could see myself having some issue with it.

Mk 5 and 3 were my favorite MCU suits so if you have a suit from the films that you absolutelty want a nice looking figure of that aren't a crazy price I really recommend them. Also yes Frieza is in his box because I really can't open everything. I still open a lot of shit and room is getting tighter as time goes on. I'll open him when I get a Vegeta so he can beat Frieza's ass.

yeah I was gonna just buy one of these to see what it was like but I wasnt actually expecting a top tier figure. For the price I dont know how they are able to make these. The paint and details are close to perfect and there isnt an unpainted part on either of these except the clear parts.

Not talking about buying in-store, specifically preorders. I got mine on discount, but I ended up just buying them in store, with the intent to return them once my preorders showed up, so I get my figures early but also get to keep the discount from the preorders, if that makes sense.

Obviously Target only gives 90 days to make a return so I’m hoping they show up in the next 60 or I have to eat the extra $20 or however much.

The single elbows get greater than 90 degrees. The elbows arent fully bent in that pic. They get good enough range imo. I wasn't a fan of the logo when it first came out but I read a few issues of Donny Cates run, which isn't too bad actually, and the look grew on me. It's a fun figure. I kinda hope they do a retool and make a "powered down" version that doesn't have the armor on his arms.

I agree when compared to the newer AYs, AY Spidey is kinda a shit figure. Even Iron Spider is leaps and bounds better. However, I still think it has a lot of nice character to it, and like I said before, I think it looks great in dynamic poses. I also just dislike Todd McFarlane's Spider-Man in all honesty, so the Mafex doesn't do much for me. It looks like a great figure though.

Also got Quake/Maria in to go with the rest of my SHIELD lads. It's wild how Hasbro released those army builder sets as recently as last year and used the plastic free packaging we're getting now as a way to make them cheaper. Now it's the exact opposite. Gotta say, with all the rising prices, shitty QC and horrible packaging, plus a lacking selection of characters I want, I gotta say I might be done with MLs. I have a few stragglers here and there but I gotta say my collection is feeling pretty complete. They'd get me with a new GotG set from the comics but outside that and a few Spidey characters I still want, there's not much left for me to get. Anyone else feeling this way? I already decided to skip the Hasbro NWH Spidey set in favor of the SHFs.

I've been collecting since late 2016, have nearly every character I want and now we've reached the point where Hasbro is releasing updates for older characters I already own. To me, most of the rereleased aren't an outright improvement over the original releases. Stuff like the retro carded War Machine are downright inferior to the original release while still costing nearly as much, the new Ghost Rider's colors are nice but it's not an outright upgrade from my existing one with the bike. They got me with RYV Aoidey because I'm a sucker for that character and I wanted Spinnerette anyway as well as the new 20th Cap because he is a clear upgrade between is paint and accessories over the 80th version.. But generally speaking, something like pinless tech or a somethinf similar isn't enough to get me to pay the new prices. Only reason I got Thor and Hill is because they were still the old $22 price point on Amazon.

I've felt checked out the last couple of years. I buy the Spider-Man stuff but even then I basically only get the villains and certain Peter costumes. I didn't get the RYV or AF sets. The only team I really want to build is the Immortal Weapons but Hasbro hasn't even made a Steel Serpent to go along with Iron Fist so I doubt they're going to ever touch the others, unless they all of a sudden get pushed in the MCU for some gay reason. Other than that I'd get new versions of the Guardians in the DnA costumes and a new comic based Daredevil but for the latter I think I'd rather wait for a Mafex.

I have both Amazing Yamaguchi and the Ben Reilly Mafex, which is damn near identical to the one we're about to get in terms of articulation. If you want a single Spidey to look iconic, go Mafex. I prefer the AY because it can hit more extreme poses, but it's not very intuitive to pose and can look very ugly unless you put a sometimes annoying amount of work in, while the Mafex will generally look great in any pose, which it's still well articulated in it's own right.

Legitimate question, but it that how /toy/ does it? I've felt lazy about the prospect of removing figs, dusting them, the shelf, and reposing them, especially since others are more fragile to pose, and I really don't want to have to spend the time finding that or another pose for them. I just remove the figures off the shelf and use the duster or a rag to wipe down the shelf. Then use a small soft natural bristle paint brush and bigger makeup brush for the actual figures. I don't take them out of their pose (unless I actually want to repose them or swap them out with something) and use the makeup brush for the bulk then the paintbrush to get into the small crevices or to dust parts that might be delicate.

I take all the figures down and dust those individually with a paint brush and then use these Swiffer sweeper cloths for the flat surfaces of the shelf itself

You can use an electric duster for both but then you have to vacuum since it doesn't pick up the dust, it just blows it around into the air. The dust sticks to the Swiffer shit so it's real easy to just throw it away afterwards.

I don't know, I think keeping physically and mentally fit has paid off for me. My fingers are long, I got big hands and you have to keep those clean in order to handle your Marvel Legends. Not that you would know, since you don't wash your hands or probably that greasy looking beard. I think some of them have an imagination, those names I listed as examples are not that creative.
