I'm sure this is probably true. But I don't understand what the appeal is to kids with most lower end toy lines like this. These figs are ugly, the IP is irrelevant, and they have awful antiquated articulation. It's weird to me how consistently toy manufacturers are totally unaware or uncaring of what kids want or what collectors want. Because they seem to fail on every front consistently

It depends which character, but great Indiana Jones toyline should rely on playsets. The whole thing of this franchise was Indy being adventurer and passing through traps and other dangers (and thus recreate full scenes from the movies), you can only have the play value with playsets, but hasbro and most adult collectors are tasteless faggots who don't care for great play value besides muh articulation.

Everyone associates Nazis as Indy's main adversaries, but they really aren't. You could go a long time pumping out iconic villains before people started complaining that they shoudl be doing nazis instead. I broke it down in an earlier thread, but its something like this:
Raiders:
Main villain is Belloq, not a nazi, second has to be Toht, clearly an SS officier but never in uniform. Then you have a mess of B tiers that could go before any identifiable nazis. Alfred Molina, Sword Guy that Indy casually shoots, Shirtless Nazi that gets shredded by the propellers. I doubt they'd ever do the tribesmen at the start of the movie, or the ones at the end of Crystal skull. Then you finally get to Colonel Dietrich and generic Nazi mooks.
Temple of Doom: No Nazis, Chinese Gangsters and Thugee Cultists led by Mula Ram
Last Crusade:
This one is harder, but you got Elsa, Donovan, and the guy at the start who young indy stole the look of. Vogal and the nazis are probably a higher priority here, but its still a lot of waves before you get to this movie.
Crystal Skull: no nazis, Cate Blanchet, Aliens, Mac, and russian soldiers for days. Again will probably never get any tribesmen.
New Movie: who cares it'll shelf warm no matter what.

Basically exactly what happened with the 1/18 scale line. They were good toys and the Indy figures improved a lot during the run, but Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a huge turd and the trilogy figures mostly appealed to adults, not so much the kids. Adults are also a lot more hesitant to buy vehicles even though for the most part, the vehicles were really good (though we never got the flying wing which is a damn shame). If you liked ww2 vehicles and horses and stuff the line had a lot to offer in 1/18 scale.

Indy 5 is a trainwreck and they still haven't settled on the ending for it. With neither Spielberg or Lucas invovled fans are almost definitely not going to consider it canon, and if Hasbro is even a little smart the toys for it will be extremely limited so that they are on pegs for as little time as possible. They will probably also pull a Rise of the Skywalker, just putting the movie-specific figures on generic "Indiana Jones" cards and making sure to include some legacy figures in the case to keep the retailers happy.

But with this tiny weapon, you could probably fit like 10-12 in a single mold at a minimum. That's called a multi-cavity mold (see pic, left side). So each shot in the mold could produce 10-12 of these at a time. So that $1 unit cost should be covering as many of these weapons as they could fit in the single mold, not just a single weapon. If he and the factory really put a single tiny weapon in an entire mold (like the right side mold), that's insanely stupid and in that case, each shot for a single weapon will cost $1 each.

Either way, if his figures cost around $40 like someone said above, that doesn't sound too unreasonable actually. The figures require multiple tools to be made (one for each different material), at least one for the ABS torso and one or two for the PVC limbs/head and whatever accessories as well. Plus labor, assembly, paint, etc. Still no way he can price his shit anywhere near what Hasbro would charge though.

Face it. Hasbro cheaped out. They are one of the largest if not the largest toy company out there currently. They'll do that because it saves them money they can pay overhead fees for. You don't have to defend them, they're not gonna give you a discount for it. They are explicitly pushing 1/12 as their 'collector' product. Other companies are, currently, today, at this fucked up market, doing their 1/18 offerings better and cheaper because that's where they want to put their money.

Hi. Anon watching your argument and want to add one thing. The tooling for a 4" figure and a 6" figure is basically the same. But they can easily charge much more for a 6" figure at retail so the profit margins there are much better. That's the real reason why most companies are more likely to do 6" over 4" now.

Also, a 4" Indiana Jones line would be 100% new tools since unlike GI Joe, there are no existing figures or accessories they can re-use tooling from. So I don't think a new super articulated 4" line ever had a chance.

I agree, I always knew they'd go the Ghostbusters route with 6" starting with the first film before they got to the current film. A 4" line, even if they reissued the 2008 figures, would fail just by cost comparison from soccer moms, since collectors just aren't enough to sustain at retail. Just like $15.99 Marvel Universe vs $19.99 Marvel Legends, there's more perceived value in the larger scale figure.

They also changed the branding to match, so it was Marvel Legends for both scales. They moved, if I recall, up in 2-3 stages, where Walmart and Target both were trying to hold out at $13-ish, but they did, eventually as the line faded, move to that pricepoint across the board. If I recall, it was also around the time Disney acquired Marvel, but that is hazy in my memory.

Regardless, yes, there was likely an uptick in the cost of the license fee as part of the deal, but it doesn't preclude figures being sold today at that level of quality, which has been my entire argument. Or are you going to try, vainly, to wish Star Wars Vintage into the cornfield, which is a brand that has only just started with a few figures to push $15, but is still made, is still a phenomenal line, and shows what the capacity is of Hasbro when they're not holding back as hard. Or are you saying that the 'license fees' for one of the actor's faces/characters from that particular media are so much more for Indiana than they are for Star Wars?

Yeah, this guy is most likely correct. Star Wars TVC is probably shipped in MUCH higher quantities than any Indy 4" line ever would be able to. I don't think that's comparable either. And how often to TVC figures get completely newly tooled figures? Sprinkled throughout the waves padded with tons of re-releases and re-paints. Now eliminate the ability for either of those and also require every single figure to be a completely new tool. Just no way they'd be able to do that and price it competitively with other 4" lines. The Indy 4" would have to be like $20+ each I'm assuming since the legacy figures and stuff from the new movie would all be 100% new. No way retailers or consumers would go for that when they can get 6" stuff for about the same.

It's going to get way worse as we get closer to the movie's release. Even if they did reshoot the movie's ending, the premise of it is that it's an Indiana Jones movie for cancel culture, and Indy was the one being canceled. Even if that wasn't the case, Harrison Ford is so old now that doing a 5th Indy movie would have been a bad idea from the word go.

I would like to think that in a decade Hollywood will be less dependent on remakes and late sequels, but they are never going to fully go away because they've always been around.

I am not going to preach from my high horse what I think audiences in 10 years should and shouldn't accept but suffice to say, I think everyone can agree that Hollywood needs more creativity and better story writing. Maybe a CG necro Thrawn Trilogy will be seen as the savior of cinema in 10 years, or maybe people will look back on the current era of cinema as an absolute dark age and people all talk about how shitty it was to use so much CG.

Somebody mentioned recently in a thread here on the chans that there was a guy who used available AI to use minimal input for a video game character to replicate their voice. In ten years time I pray we have cheap and easy access to such tech that we can make our own projects. There are an absolute TON of well written comic books out there, imagine using this tech to make Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis yourself? Imagine going back and making more episodes of your favorite cartoon with the original voice cast? I have zero interest in what Hollywood does, but I'm beyond excited to see what the fans cook up.

Unfortunately, when CBS started churning out shit through Secret Hideout they started clamping down on fan projects, particularly a big project that was done through kickstarter.
