Anonymous

Mekaneck and Roadripper/Groundripper are sold out at Walmart now. I'm assuming these are just mainline releases though. Hopefully it gets a wide release like Adam and Skysled. Kinda annoyed both have their gimmicks watered down (unless the ripper has a rev up motor) and they didn't have the decency to include an extra neck piece for Mekaneck to make it extended a little more.
Anonymous
>>10078683 The ball jointed neck is ugly and looks like a penis. The fact both the vehicle and the figure don't have their action features, especially on a line that claim to mimick faithfully the vintage line, makes them worthless. Mekaneck is one of favourites, but I'm not getting him without having his signature action feature and the chrome visor isn't enough to pursade me.

>>10078680 These recent announcements are bumming me out pretty bad too. I just want some fucking good news about Origins. Maybe Thunder Punch He-Man will make a cool clicking sound as a substitute for the blast caps?
I still think we should just spam their social media to opt for dx snake men, they can just include armor bits to make them look like 200X or something and those could be the "generals".

I remember when I used to say that after King Randor, Mattel will run out of cheap toys to make and they'll have to think of some ways to save money. People treated me like crazy. They just did Leech, they did Snout Spout, they did Mantenna with 4 legs as non-deluxe, shut up, doomer, everything is possible, Dylamug and Draego-Man are on their wayy! So if anything else, at least I get to say told ya.

I think we are seeing the results of them pushing out to many figures at once. They are using the tooling budget to make as many new figures as they can and the result is that they have to leave out the gimmicks. Not sure why they are trying to push out so many figures at once. Is it to get out as many as they can before a rights issue? Is it to prove the line is viable? Or are they really just being cheap?

Look, i wasnt even doomsaying, i was trying to still discussion with "how do you think theyll save money". With line like Origins where every figure keeps reusing buck, this is part of discussion. I also recall when I talked about Wave 11 leaks and people told me how obviously wrong I am because Rattlor must be Deluxe. So I don't know what people want from me. Maybe something like this: Ah, don't worry guys, I bet next Wave drops Sun-Man toys and they do instead Grayskull Robot again, Misille Toad, Dylamug and Filmation desigins for She-Ra characters! Also, Kamo Khan head must have working gimmick and fit perfectly on regular Kobra Khan head. I bet Thunder Punch still has caps, we just didn't saw them because they're already in backpack. >>10080515 No, inflation calculators are tools used by poorfags to justify not getting something they want. There's a lot more factors than just comparing it to what it cost in the past. You wouldn't even want it to be made out of the same materials, the original ended up breaking too easily.
But it's at least $100 more than it should be regardless.
Anonymous
>>10080534 It's also not taking into account thst, from what I've heard, vintage Eternia lost the company money, since they pulled the plug at a point that not enough units were produced to breakeven. If it had been priced to breakeven for the number of units they made, it certainly would have cost more that 89 bucks, but Mattel was cutting their loses at the time. Alternately, to justify that price, they should've produced way more Eternias.
Saying current Eternia should only cost $243 implies that either 1)you want Mattel to sell 5000 units at a loss again or 2) you want Eternia mass produced and sold in quantities that justify the low price. If it's the latter, I'm gonna put it to you like this: how well do you genuinely believe Eternia would sell at mass retail, given its size?

>>10080515 >>10080534 Inflation is a good gauge, but only a gauge. For example, Marvel Legends(under Toy Biz) were about 12 USD a pop back in 2000, which puts them at 20.64 after the same calculator's used, right around the price it goes for now. Margins might have shifted behind the scenes, but the cost to a consumer is about the same. That said, same calc puts it at about $15.68 in 2011, not that I recall the price from then.
That said, this isn't a big-box store release, this is a 'print to demand' product, meaning the economy of scale is far, far different, this will probably have some sort of 'premium packaging' or other shipping consideration for the folks out there who demand ding-less cardboard, etc.
It's still a luxury good being sold to attract those who would rather pay 25-30% of the actual price of an original, with potentially better plastics, so yes, you are paying more than if it'd been pushed direct to Target or Walmart. You're also not having to hunt the thing down nor fight scalperscum for it.

Hasbro barely distributed some really subpar product and it went on hiatus so they could push the 1:18 Marvel Universe. When they came back with those Heroscape platforms, they were $15 for awhile. The black box series that debuted with Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier was $20, where it stuck until right around the start of 2020 with I think the black costume F4 wave that was $21 or $22. 2) you don't know what cost changes occurred nor are you trying to factor them in. Consider pic related You got a massive chunk of a baf, with a comic and several accessories for $10 even with inflation that doesn't pan out right. >>10081381 I suppose so. The superstructure is the biggest and most complicated part and is basically a playset in and of itself, while the rest of the toy is more like a sandbox type play environment. The times when it was viable to actually stock a toy that big at retail are long gone though. And if Kenner had made a Star Destroyer that big, it would likely be much more expensive due to the fact that the Flagg is mostly big flat panels, and a Star Destroyer has a much more complicated shape. Not to mention that the deck of the FLAGG is a naturally compelling play surface, whereas a Star Destroyer would basically have to be opened up to have a viable play area inside.
The lower deck mod is something I'm sure a lot of guys who actually had the thing back then wish they could have had, especially since you can put wheels on it.
Anonymous
>>10081395 >has changed either due to manufacturing worker costs changing That was a big one, up until 2005(ish) companies were basically using slave labor meaning you were paying for the parts and shipping but a lot of the 3rd world countries being used had a massive swing of middle class changes and it demanded a need to actually pay the workers which caused a inflation spiral where companies had to factor in worker costs into what they sold so items that went for $10 were ticking up to $15 or $20 because of this issue.
>changing or a diminishing demand That's the big nail in the coffin, when you are making billions of figures that sell you can keep costs down but when it's hitting only hundreds of thousands or less you are not making up factory/worker costs as easily and will be losing money if the price isn't increased. It's why Super7's made to order stuff is as high as it is, they are not making cases of figures that are going to the 10,000 Walmarts, 2,000 Targets and 70k Amazon warehouse buildings worldwide. >>10083506 I like Pixel Dan but his nostalgia for Classics and original MOTU is kind of annoying sometimes. It's almost as if some part of him wants to resist anything new being added to the brand, and just wants '84 stuff nonstop.
And no, they're wrong, because not everyone buys every MOTU product. Some people collect Origins, some collect Masterverse, and others still collect only parts of either of those. If you want to buy both and everything within them, I don't see how it makes sense to complain that you're getting a lot because clearly that's what you want, and if money becomes an issue, just stop or narrow the focus. No one is being forced to buy anything.
And besides, for Dan specifically, each figure is also content for his channel, so those 25 figures are 25 different videos. I don't see any problem aside from people with self-control issues who feel like they need to buy everything.

Origins feels overpriced now while MV feels at Neca levels for $10 less(excluding dumb ideas like King Grayskull or She-Ra, selling basics in wider boxes to show off parts & calling it a deluxe). Thanks to Creations bullshit I may not even bother with Origins outside of Sun-Man & just switch to MV. I already have the main character basic lineup in Origins anyway, I can ignore the Horde & Snake Men.

If my enjoyment of the character is contingent on their working gimmick, I'm skipping. And if I'm skipping characters that otherwise would have been favs, I'm less willing to shell out characters that I'm less stoked on like I have in the past. There's still lots of stuff I still intend to buy, like I never cared about Two-Bad's feature, and Goat Man never had a feature in the first place being nonvintage, so I'll still be on board for them, but they've pretty much talked me out of buying any more Heroic Warriors. I'm out for Mekaneck, Extendar will likely follow suit, and I'm not 100% confident Rio Blast won't just have snap-on guns, and if it ends up I get none of those guys, why waste my cash on Rokkon, Moss Man or Gwildor when I don't like any of them as much as the before mentioned?

I mean, yeah, they already do new things but vintage is still main attraction with new Teela or Trap Jaw being a side thing and occasionally something neat like Wun-Dar popping out. I wonder what will Waves look like. In some way, this should be good for Mattel because no one will complain anymore about broken gimmicks - they can do regular articulared dudes all they want. Then again, they would need something for Deluxe, right? I suppose the good thing is that they can choose what gimmicks they want to do so it doesn't gets in the way or articulation or modularity.

I wonder if them making the snake fuckhuge is to have it double as the carrying handle, since the added "peak" makes using the gate as the carrying handle impossible now.

This last motuesday actually went out with a bang, good job Mattel. It's too bad the majority of these will be exclusives. I remember Sc*tt last year saying that the lack of snakes and unique molds was a sign of the line dying, while everyone else predicted they would be 3rd year figures after the horde.
