Take the hands out, try to line up the parts better, check for nubs or something keeping it from snapping together. Maybe use cement to seal it up so it doesnt pop loose when you put in the hands.

First time attempting waterslides. I bought mr. setter & mr. softer, but I'm also hearing I need a topcoat. I kind of like the look of the bareplastic after using a Gunprimer Balancer to make it look more matte, and I don't want to fuck with the shiny-ness/matte-ness any further. Is topcoat necessary for waterslides if I'm already using a setter?

It's not absolutely required, but if you don't topcoat it and pose or move it around a lot the decals are gonna scratch up or peel off

Man, you may have trouble getting the decals to adhere to the matted plastic. They like smoother glossier surfaces best. Especially a good gloss top coat. You can try but itll likely chip or peel off from handling it. A topcoat after would help alot but not always going to be a 100% guarantee.

There are still some KOs for older HG kits on the market now like Seed kits and some IBO kits. There should be no KOs for the latest kits because Bandai take straight KO very seriously, and some manufacturers of KO kits are now their own brands like Daban model(Gaogao) and Eastern Model(Dragon momoko)

Can you clarify this? Does this mean they send a request with a limited timeframe like AmiAmi? Or do they instantly charge whatever payment you have on file?
And how do they feel about cancellations? If I cancel a few orders will they ban me or are they cool about it like BBTS?

You can cancel any orders you make before it's paid, Like Pre Orders but after like so many they give you a little heads up warning.
I got my first warning after cancelling like $1k+ or more worth of pre orders over a span of a few years lmao.

Hlj will charge you when it is in stock or comes into stock. If you dont have the money it will decline, then they will try to charge again on a week if it didn't go through the first time, if no money still,they cancel that order. No they wont ban you for cancelling items.

Do people generally cut all the parts from the runners before they assemble anything or do you cut parts off as you need them as you're assembling? I'm wondering what people think is better, I've been doing the latter with the kits I've built recently but I want to try painting my next kit once I get the supplies and I imagine you want to cut everything in advance for that.

Normally I go ham with weathering and decals but I really wanted a shiny glossy suit for this one.

It's just Mr Color GX Metallic Green and Mr Color White over a Glossy Black base coat.

I went to the GWBC 2022 yesterday, I didnt took pics but someone did.

I am starting to warm up onn the MGEX Strike Freedom compared to MGEX Unicorn. I really like the way the frame was designed. I think it would give me lots of fun building it compared to the past few MG releases.

Would be a definitely buy if it was only at least a little 2000 to 3000 yen cheaper.

Just trying to figure out how Bandai does stuff. Seems UC gets tons of love. The MC Gundams get some love. Then everything else just exists. I prefer the MG lines and like having "sets" so to speak. HG releases really depend on if a new show is airing this year or not, but MG releases are slowing. 1-2 RG is pretty accurate, but MGs have been up to 9 new retail kits a year (2007) with a low being three new kits (2021). However 2022 is only at 1 new kit (Dom 1.5 x2, counting them as 0.5 new kits each) so it may be the new record drought year.

Honestly, I don't what to say about what Bandai is doing. Nobody really knows, and regarding the FM and MG, I would say that Bandai was just try to capitalize on IBO popularity at the time. Well I can say the Supernova Heavyarms looks great, of course its not bandai so some of the tolerance's ned to be shaved, but overall it has great shelf presence. I bought some silver watersides for it and they really complement the look. Related- you are gonna want to paint the gun barrels silver at the very least because they look kinda shit otherwise. If they are still priced that low id go for it. I believe Supernova or Daban also has the Heavyarms expansion set, forget where but I saw them actually being sold together in the same box

MGs are more expensive to manufacture and design (more engineering design hours, more plastic and more manufacturing hours due to more runners). I'm not sure the last few years are a good metric, particularly how the japanese were pretty intense over handling covid (likely a lot of man hours lost, as well as lost revenue for the g-reco films, difficulty keeping up with factory production schedules). We'll have to see if MG releases continue to stagnate or if there is an uptick after this whole wuflu madness passes.

Depends on your taste but I find it brings out the small details as highlights, or helps fill in areas and give them a good illusion of being separate sections and such. Can even use it as a bit of weathering if you want. Handy stuff. Just my opinion. Im a lazy snapshitter anyway.

It has been rereleased May this year and I can find planty of it with decent price on Taobao and Shopee, I live in Asia so these are local sits I use but it should be in stock in other regions as well. Also it will be getting another rerelease Feburary 2023 so don't pay over price to get it.

I painted. Have to do decals still. Probably matten it even though the decals are uv reactive. Paint is very flakey metallic. Practically glittery. Fraked out thinking I orange peeled some parts but aside from the last bit from the can didnt. The glittery finish makes it look rough. Its almost a color shift depending on the shadows and angle of light hitting it. Isnt perfect but not bad for a first time using rattlecans in a long time.

That's a common problem with Nu kits. The connection being on the back of the arm is gay and interferes with the funnels all the time. At least you can turn it to the side on the RG.

Can you generally expect any kit that isn't fairly recent to look bad OOB unless you can give it a proper paintjob? I don't really have the space to set up a spray painting booth so the most I can really do is panel lining and top coating.

Not him, but I've held spoken conversations over my Master compressor. They aren't loud, just get some foam and a few books under the feet so it doesn't vibrate. My equally cheap booth is actually louder, and that's vacuum cleaner-tier. Probably not good enough for actual venting though.

You're supposed to cut pegs in half in all peg-hole connections between 2 parts you are trying to weld, because you want to be able to squeeze the parts closer then they would be normally so that some of the melted plastic can come out of the seam, creating the "weld".
If you don't cut the pegs, they won't let you squeeze the parts.

I have little clamps from harbor frieght and clamp them shut for a while. If that desn't close thseam all the way and leaves a gap or a ridge after sanding then I putty over it and sand the putty.

Tamiya Extra Thin Quick Setting, my favorite cement. Doesn't have any resin, same as MrCement S, but evaporates much quicker, reducing damage if over-applied.
Only one issue to be aware of: it really doesn't like stressed plastic (same effect as enamel thinner).

To put things in perspective, we are talking about tiny/thin parts that may have some tight peg/hole connections. You probably won't find such parts in your typical Bandai or Koto kit.
It won't actually crack a large part in half like enamel thinner can.

Weirdly enough, this cement cracks Wave 0.2mm plaplate into pieces whenever I try to glue that plaplate to anything. Wave probably extrudes its plaplate or something so it comes already pre-stressed.

I leave ~0.1mm gap in between parts, let the cement get sucked in there, check that the entire length of the seam is filled with cement (add more if needed), wait ~10 sec, then squeeze the parts hard enough so the melted plastic comes out along the entire length of the seam and that usually does it.

If your gap is not completely filled with cement or you didn't squeeze the plastic out of the entire seam, that's when you start having problems with seam quality.

brushed-on metallics almost always look really bad. it's pretty much impossible to hide brush strokes because the brushing motion pushes the metallic flakes in a certain direction and shiny surfaces show imperfections a lot more than more matte surfaces.
also if you are doing any brush painting with tamiya's acrylics you will want a retarder as well, because the solvent in them evaporates very quickly and doesn't leave much time for the paint to self-level (this is why people usually recommend waterbased paint like vallejo for brush painting rather than solvent-based paint)

My advice always to looking to do the first step in painting is to always buy the spray cans first. dont go jumping in and wasting your money on an airbrush

I have encountered so many people new to painting at the local model kit store who bought expensive airbrush kit+compressor who are trying to return it because they dont know how to really use it, they cant get it right, they damaged it quickly, they didnt get the results they wanted, blah blah blah, etc etc etc.

I suggest you try to buy some model kit spray cans first and try painting with that first. sure it can get more expensive in the long run compared to buying an airbrush kit and quickly regretting it. build some confidence in painting first, the ins and out of painting and then if its really for you, then go buy an airbrush kit.

I started off by getting a bunch of spray cans and it was summer so painting outside was good. I liked the results so I bought more and painted more. But the whole painting into the box and having all those wet parts to carry back and forth soon got old. And the weather was getting shittier so I started painting in the garage but taking the car out every time I wanted to paint got old too. But setting up a booth that can handle cans seemed too difficult/expensive. Then I went and bought an airbrush and a compressor because cans were going way too quickly and I realized I can paint with a $3 pot of paint way more than I could with 2 or 3 cans $9 each and the overspray from an airbrush is fucking nothing compared to cans. So in the end I set up a proper booth in the basement so I can paint whenever the fuck I want and eventually I decanted all of my old cans. I do think that getting the cans first helped me get used to painting, but it did cost me a $100 or so more than it would if I went straight to airbrush.

Pretty retarded, why would you need the MG? It's expensive, hard to find, and not very good.
Any version of the FA is gonna be a brick but the RG is a much better and less finicky brick.
