What lines exist aside from Lanard’s Corps/Adventure & Dino lines, Chap Mei’s Soldier Force & True Heroes & Jungle themed sets, Animal Planet sets? Specifically referring to 4” human figures. Excluding Dollar Tree's Final Faction line which has a healthy thread going already.

Are any of these sold at retail or readily online anymore that are just the human figures?
How much do the figures usually cost?
Which are most articulated?

From what I can gather online, Lanard's lines are basically only sold overseas now? Apparently Walmart dropped all their non-licensed lines from stores which is why the Alien stuff is all there's been for the last 2+ years

They'll go for $5 per figure. They also get multipacks and deluxe sets. I got one of those giant llamas with a shit ton of accessories and 2 figs for about $25. I'm starting to see the new white carded 4" figs pop up. Oh, and vehicles will sometimes show up as well.

Well crap, atleast I know to let that ship sail now. I just know someone is seeing the void final faction is filling and is drawing up a plan. It's the perfect time too, real life issues are affecting everything just like when the first star wars figures were made. This is an idea I've been daydreaming for quite some time, just good affordable toys in this scale. On lanard the xenos and preds are good for the price, xenos come with some neat accessories.

Yeah, I've known to keep an eye out for discounted figures at chains like Ross, TJ Maxx, Five Below, etc. But that's pretty unreliable and you get left with a mx of various licensed figures. I wish there was a single line like Lanard's Corps that still existed today and was easy to get a hold of online or in stores.

I did some reading online and saw that. Really sucks. The Corps figures were pretty neat for the ~$2-3 per figure price point just a few years ago. The newer ones with swivel hinge shoulders/elbows and ball jointed hips like the female mold were sweet. Definitely seems to be a market for this kind of thing. I know the prices probably would have gone up a dollar or so as everything else has the last few years, but still seems like a good plan.

Why can't another company make some non-licensed figures in the $3-5 price point, articulate them as decently as Lanard's Corps, and sell through one of the discount store chains like Five Below, Big Lots, etc? Seems so obvious! I like Final Faction but I'd rather spend a couple more bucks per figure and have better articulation and paint.

Someone with alleged inside info stated that after Walmart dropped all the non-IP Lanard stuff around 2019, Ollie's purchased all the overstock at a discount and that's what they've been selling since then. This kind of checks out with what other people reported seeing at Ollies too. Obviously it benefits Lanard to sell to Walmart instead of Ollie's since Walmart will order is much larger numbers and most likely be able to offer more.

Just get 25th Anniversary and newer Joes off the secondary market. They're actually quite cheap. I mean, not all are cheap, obviously, but you can accumulate quite a bit on a budget.

Similarly, Star Wars 3.75". New ones are overpriced, you're better off getting the 6" figures. But the older 3.75 are still affordable and there's a huge selection of characters available.

Fortnite can be found on clearance. Bandai's Shodo, Choudou and SODO candy toys are pretty cheap, especially if you grab each new wave as they come out, but there are some older ones that are still cheap.

All these have better sculpt and articulation than the ones you mentioned, but do require a bit of legwork to hunt down, except for the Shodo/Choudou/SODO.

I'd prefer a single line of figures with a consistent look and level or articulation. Those Corps figures are really the ideal level of chunky sculpt and just enough articulation to give them some personality. I know there are many other licensed figure options and discount stores to look for clearanced lines, but I was looking for something like a budget line thats regularly priced in that range, not only when it moves to overstock stores.

So you get a chance to do a Chap-Mei/Lanard/Final Faction quality series of figures, what do you make?
I've had a few ideas(a line of beast themed knights, a line of tech-samurai and ninjas), but as far as tangible, existing concepts, I thought it'd be cool to do a line of Public Domain superheroes similar to the Kenner Legends of Batman/Dark Knight style of sculpt.(Yes I know of that kickstarter, but the sculpts are bland)

Daredevil(Bart Hill version), with giant launching boomerang!
Black Terror, with clip on armor
Stardust, with Starbeam missile launcher,
Catman, with attachable catclaws slashers
Blue Beetle, with Scarab jet-pack
Pyroman, with clip-on bolts and energy aura clip-ons
The Ghost, with transparent phanto-weapons
The Face, with swappable head action!
Black Bat, with bat glider wings!
Villains:
Claw- With terror capture claws
Superfiend, with ram-head action

Thats at least a starter set. I'd expand into some vehicles and heroines if it got some popularity

Thats nice anon, but as someone who can and does buy really expensive toys, its nice to get figures like this now and then. There's a real charm to these designs, and I feel attached to them through nostalgia.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. It's nice to have a cheap line of figures to collect where you know they're not the most detailed, best sculpted, or best articulated, but they are unique and original ideas. The low budget factor gives them a certain charm for me too.

I'd prefer some original ideas like any of those, especially if each human figure included a little creature/animal like the pictured figures. I'd just like them to at least have swivel hinged shoulders and legs so they're a little better than simple 5 POA

As much as I'd enjoy public domain superheroes, I feel like that wouldn't do too well in this format. These have to mainly cater to kids and parents browsing aisles of discount stores and such. I feel like these would be overlooked for the many licensed Marvel/DC figures all over shelves at Five Below, Ollie's, Big Lots, etc. I don't think it helps that the modern superhero figures moved away from 4" long ago. I think themes like Space/Aliens and Soldiers/Military/Ninjas work best since they can mix with Star Wars and Joes at the 4" scale.

Its mostly an indulgence for my own ideas. I don't expect them to actually happen(or sell well if they did), mainly something to recapture the idea of finding a bunch of cool Toy Biz/Kenner superhero toys as a kid without knowing the characters
I have some rough sketch ideas, I'd probably redesign hem slightly to make their designs a bit more dynamic but recognizable

I'd probably modify the basic 5 PoA to a universal ball and socket system so customizers and kids can swap out limbs on demand. Price wise, I'd like to see it as a slightly more expensive Final Faction at around $2 a figure/accessory pack

As for a theme I'd go for a Shadowrun-esque world where fantasy races intermingle in a sci fi dystopia. We can have orc gangers, cyborg enforcers, human mercenaries, dwarf chem doctors, etc. Since joints are universal, you can easily make your own character.

Accessory packs would include weapons, backpacks, scenery pieces, and replacement cyborg limbs, in different poses paired with an appropriate weapon (like arms sculpted specifically for a gatling laser. Said weapon also includes a stand for diorama builders in the pack)

Keeps the line budget friendly while retaining longevity through modularity.

To further keep costs down, simple building packs will be released in printed cardstock with DIY tutorials for scatter terrain built in. Some pieces will be available as single or double packed detailed plastic pieces that retain a lot of modularity like walls, gateways and barricades. Basically allowing kids to build a playset or diorama piecemeal or going all in and getting a massive playset at once.

all your hero line is missing is a decent name to go with it. for final faction prices I'd buy up the entire line. contrary to what >>10088228 I think the PD heroes line would have a chance at success simply because it would be a sorely needed third option between marvel and dc. that and the kenner legends aesthetic would do well to set the series apart from any of its peers. have you seen how bland most capeshit toys are now? it's all a muddy blur of tacticool designs and textures. taking us back to standard fare colorful costumes with fun accessories would be a breath of fresh air these days. honestly it reminds me of the discussion surrounding universal's marvel theme park and how most people seem to prefer it to Disneyland's MCU based offerings. People are simply tired of movie aesthetics these days. the only thing I want to add to your overall idea is that the claw and superfied should be redesigned. as they are, both golden age designs are a bit tame. I'd make superfiend and the claw look more monstrous just to attract sales. Maybe even make the claw into a wannabe fing fang foom.

you know how playsets in the 1970s were made of the same stuff that binders are? I think your line could do well in adopting a similar format for bigger playsets. maybe the given castle or bastion could even be designed to fold up and away for easy storage.

the way I see it, at worst the line would be bought up as cheap stocking stuffers or custom fodder. at best you end up with a capeshit flavored final faction. given the line would be designed to be as low cost as possible, I dont really see a loss either way. its a smart idea and I think it has potential. honestly I was thinking you could make a futuristic looking bart hill daredevil resemble pic related. you could also have stardust's astral observatory serve as a homebase for all the heroes.

I know there are some boutique little companies selling cardboard displays/backdrops for figures but I'm surprised more proper toy companies haven't sold or at least supplemented playsets with that kind of thing. That's an awesome idea. Would be reasonably sturdy too. Imagine being able to build a massive playset for 1/18 figures for under $100. Heck, by embracing 3D printing, you could sell supplementary files to hobbyists and even hold contests to select tgird party designs for regular production (with permission from creators or course).

It is kind of sad that there isn't a really great stocking stuffer/budget toyline for kids. A friend of mine was complaining that it takes montha for his 8 year olds to save up pocket money for anything whereas he used to take only a week or two at most.

I wonder why almost all the past and current budget lines are military/soldier centric. I get those are timeless, but why not monsters or spooky things like someone else suggested in the Final Faction thread? I feel like there would be a good amount of part re-use options, and there are dozens of cool playset ideas.

Dracula and a coffin, castle set
Mummy with sarcophagus, tomb playset
Bigfoot with park rangers/hunters and some related accessories
Alien with UFO/flying saucer and some military or Area 51 related things
Skeletons with weapons or gravestones for a graveyard set
Frankenstein with lab table and lab playset
etc

Toy Biz at the height of their "add extras" era of Marvel Legends was going to add 3PoA henchmen figures to their then-$7-8 Marvel Legends figures. I think even then it was financially unfeasible so it flopped, but I think a similar idea would work very well.

Pretty sure there are easy ways to avoid pissing off Universal. There are specific characteristics each of their classic monsters has that can be avoided. For instance Frankenstein's bolts on his neck, a flat top head, scars on head, etc.

maybe it's just a result of all the recent price hikes but I've really grown to appreciate these budget vehicle and figure playsets as of late. the figures themselves can range from shoddy to okay, but really the vehicles and weapons are the selling points. I saw pic related around for years and was always tempted to get it but never did, hopefully I see it again sometime soon and actually grab it this time.

People have been begging them to release more Corps figures in the US for years. Not that overpriced multi pack, or all the Alien/Predator stuff that's available at Walmart stores for cheaper.

Walmart's repacked Chap Mei stuff has a $16 attack boat with 2 figures, Cobra FANG wannabe & lifeboat + a bunch of 1/12 weapons I got for GI Joe Classified. They also have a $25 copter with giant cannon. And for $17 a boat with big sharks, which will randomly either have a male researcher or a female researcher with a rather busty chest.

considering the earlier discussion regarding the future of the corps and walmarts general disinterest in unlicensed toylines, what if lanard just looked into grabbing more mid-tier semipopular licenses to sell their figures through? I was thinking of how easy it would be for them to repurpose their recent star force collection into futuristic police men. then I remembered the ultra police toyline and figured that worked great as a precendent anyways. hell they could probably do well in pandering to that late 80s nostalgia considering most of this toyline would be repaints of corps figures and vehicles. every playset would include a different robocop variant, a few delta city officers, and a handful of crooks to bust. larger sets would include some big clunky robot like >>10106646 for robo to fight head on in addition to a vehicle or two.

Walmart doesn't care about some old toy line from many decades ago. They are more focused on getting product for current licenses on shelves around the time there is new media coming out. Look at all the recent Lanard licenses. Rampage, Jumanji, King Kong, Alien, Predator, Top Gun. I'm not sure if Robocop is as big of a draw like Alien or Predator is, but I'm sure Lanard could repaint several figures to be supplemental cops/baddies in a Robocop line which is what could be its saving grace.

Why not just pack in star force figures with xenos again? Lanard has gotta be cooking up something, this years xeno are straight repaints and I'm not sure on the preds as I've only seen them once but I know they come in new colors.

I only mentioned the toyline because of how much mileage kenner got out of robocop. I see the point you're making regarding their recent licenses but aliens and predator both kind of discredit it. "Prey" wasnt really a big hit as it went direct to streaming and Aliens hasnt had a new installment since covenant. Imo the success of both of these lines is due to how well they've ridden the line between "collectables" and "toys". They're cheap enough to pick up on whim even if youre not big on either franchise. Robocop and Terminator are arguably the only other franchises with that same appeal. Of those two Id just rather a kid oriented Robocop line. Anyways I was checking lanardolicious' instagram and it seems like they're resoliciting alot of items for holiday 2022. Ofcourse they've shown off the new stuff like pic related and the cyborg dudes, but they're also showing new primal clash sets along with new star trooper sets. Oh and they're also making a video game.

I have to wonder if the smaller xenos sold well enough or not. The only new aliens merch they put out this year was a gift set including the red queen and a couple of drones and those 7 inch gitd xenomorphs. Maybe they're just being cautious?

Nah, I think they're struggling. Aside from a couple Alien/Pred figs, they have no current retail presence in the US now after Walmart dropped all their other lines. I guarantee US Walmart was the bulk of their revenue so that has got to sting. Right now they're relying on international retail channels to keep them alive. I'm sure they've been developing some new IP based line that US Walmart will carry in the near future though.

I'm hoping they are doing something, it won't be out this year regardless. Are those new preds repaints or completely new? May pick one up if I find one, the one I had from the previous release was fine, loose ankle, and fits in pretty ok with other 6 in sized figures.

Oh wow. So Walmart in all of North America dropped most Lanard product? I heard Mexican Wamarts have tons of Corps and other non-licensed Lanard stuff. Is Mexico considered North America or South? Idk but it sucks its so hard for such a huge number of people to find so many Lanard products.

This kind of figures were common to be found on asian bazars and local tobaco or toy shops

But now, are hard to find in Spain. And very expensive

Some years ago you can have a blister with some figures, accesories and little vehicles like quads or motorbikes for less than 2 euros. Now a simple blister with a figure and few accessories is nearly 5 euros

And the number of joints of figures are also decreasing

I have jealousy when I see videos of toy hunter at shops like dollartree and I see the amount of variety of figures you can get for "one dollar"

here in america they've reissued one of the playsets through dollar tree. its a smaller pirate ship with an included cave to hide treasure in. it comes with the same black guy thats facing off against that giant spider.
