There's just something about this guy, even without a cool action feature like some of my other favorites, that really speaks to me. The huge majority of this franchise is still mired in "muh core cast/muh vintage line" mindset. That's why Grizzlor and even Wun-Dar sold out, they actually had toys in the 80s. I expect Camo Khan to be the same deal.
Frog Monger I got pegged for being another Kol Darr....he'll still sell out day one, but it'll probably take 45 min -1 hrs, since the vintage purists will bow out.

All Origins reveals were hype, especially finally getting Frog Monger and Moss Man. I don't buy much Masterverse and have no interest in anything Revalations, but that NA Skeletor is great. Good proportions on that one. Just wish they'd do away with the ugly thigh cuts and do a swivel.

I don't like how he came to be (assuming that Netflix exec played a part with his dumbass attitude downplaying other black characters just because they're not immediately important in the lore) but I liked the character from what little we saw of him. Plus, they'll more than likely do a (probably more widely-available) white version eventually to recoup tooling costs anyway, so don't get your panties too far in a twist.

I'm inclined to agree. I was put off at first because I never liked the King Grayskull lore in the first place and hated Revelations, but the more I look at him as just a toy design and ignore associated bullshit, he's pretty good looking.

He makes me think of Conan's friend Zula from the cartoon. I usually use the "savage" He-Man idea when I make displays and play scenarios, you could use King Grayskull as another member of He-Man's tribe, or of tribe they're friends or rivals with. Or just put his head on Clamp Champ or Sun Man's body, that'd be cool

Ive never understood how anyone could like the original King Grayskull more than the modern one
I always hated how King Grayskull just looked like He-Man but bigger so I never cared about him or liked him. Post revelation Grayskull looks way cooler to me cause he actually looks like a different guy and seems like a cool guy personality wise too (also helps hes very attractive)
The modern one is almost the same design just he actually looks like a different guy now as he should

With a little bit of math and educated guesswork, you can figure it out:
Current cost is 5000 units at $550 for a total of $2,750,000.
Ideal profit for most toys/toy companies is generally between 25-50% with around 40% being a common sweet spot.
I'd wager the profit margin for this is a little lower, but would guess the rough combined cost of tooling and per unit cost for the initial 5000 to be somewhere around $1.8 to $2 million. With that number in mind we can now assume that approximately half of that is tooling costs and half of that is per unit costs. There's tons of other little costs that go into toy production of course but it's easiest for our purposes to break it down this way. With that said I'd guess that per unit cost for each finished boxed Eternia to be somewhere around the $180-200 mark in this campaign.
Since factories cut deals for bulk orders for such an enormous order we can cut down the per unit costs to say, $170 to be safe. You can Now Mattel still needs to make it worthwhile from a profit standpoint. But with a MILLION guaranteed buyers you could easily only charge a few extra dollars and still make crazy profits.

You could charge $185 for Eternia playsets with a million buyers with this model, and Mattel would still make a cool $12-13 million in profit, over 10x what they're set to make if this hits 5000 backers.

Idk if this is bait, but from someone who likes both and sees value in both, in 200x he looked like He-Man because he was a direct ancestor of Adam. I think they also said that Revelation KG is an ancestor of He-Man, but idk if that lineage is that simple. I think in that comic KG had 2 sons, a blue haired white kid and a black kid (D'are), the latter of which died. Idk if they were both his biological kids, but he called both his sons, but maybe skin colour doesn't always translate straight through descendants? Or Veena skin tone genetics? Who knows, really.

A black He-Man is cool, but forcing Revelations King Grayskull as the original He-Man is, well, forced. There is a reason why fictional ancestors usually look like the modern character, so you know the two are related, but there really isn't that is Revelations King Grayskull. Had he been like the Greatest Champion of Grayskull before Adam, I don't think there would have been as much if any issue.

In 200x, that was because King Grayskull was the power. So future wielders of the sword are channeling King Grayskull's power, which rested in Castle Grayskull after he died fighting the Horde.

In Revelations, King Grayskull said that Adam was the only one who chose to remain in his normal form. The rest chose to take their champion form in the afterlife.

Typically, a project like this skyrockets on the last day. However... Mattel had the brilliant idea of attaching one of the unique figures to early backing, meaning that if you don't back it this week, you don't get him. Because of that, I expect the inverse to happen this time, and for there to be almost no new backers after the first week. Why buy an incomplete product at a premium price?

I do also agree with your assessment, it's clearly a forced thing by the 'powers that be', but since he exists, I'd rather just look for the best of it. It isn't the character's fault. In this established world though, I don't think KG would need to be just the He-Man we know with longer hair, with the differing lineages, and seemingly places from where the champions are from.

I'd like to hope so. I'm not going for it, but I want people to get in on it and show the success of the brand for future projects. They don't need to all this big, could be big creatures or something too.

Going by the wrestling ring, I'm a bit worried it'll stall. I don't think KG is as strong an incentive as their Ultimate Macho Man was, plus it was an incentive added after the established backers had already went in. We'll see, but it's going well so far.

That was my biggest takeaway from Rev. I was always more a Skeletor guy, and saw He-Man as a watered down Conan for kids. I couldn't be more wrong. He's Superman in a loincloth and I absolutely love Adam now.

NE - 10 (so far loving all the new designs and they're making for good figures, excited to see the new design elements they incorporate)
40th - 6 (If they're done exceedingly well I'll probably grab them, but not much interest or excitement in seeing them)

NA - 4 (some interesting designs, but no outright interest. Tried giving the show a chance but didn't care for it)
POP - 5 (again, some designs I like, but not exceedingly interested)
Revelation/Revolution 5 (I'll say 5 because there are some looks I really want, and everything else I've no interest in, so middle of the road)
Sun-Man - 8 (really liking what they're doing so far with them, really updating the designs a lot)

Man I don't want a huge-ass table to be dedicated to a playset. I don't mind putting shit onto shelves, and I have a couple of playsets in here (Grayskull and the NECA TMNT street diorama for my Super7 TMNT figures), but sometimes it's just too much, and if it straight up isn't going to fit on a shelf and needs to eat up tons of space with a table... that's just going too far. At least with shelves I can put the playset on top and store other shit below it.

A lot of people don't get that. I think that's why N52 Superman didn't land all that well, it's him being unnecessarily edgy and it's missing the best parts of the character. A lot of people think that they're bad characters because they're overpowered, but it's because they're overpowered yet act the way they do outside of fights and even in fights that make the characters so interesting.

I think the use of fur and the pale color used for it on a dark body help the design pop as part of a "savage" Eternia. Like he's from the tropics and skinned himself a lion.
I think the fur color on blond KG was the same as He-Man, making him more forgetable.

I also wonder about how strong the average Eternian is. Or are the various Masters unusually strong. If someone can even remotely fight He-Man, they have to be superhuman, and by some transitive logic, if He-Man fights the Evil Warriors and the Masters can fight those same people, the gap can't be that massive (unless He-Man is constantly holding back massively, which I could see).

You know, this is actually kinda disappointing.
Eternia is the "Ultimate Battleground"
But it's just He-Man and Skeletor with a few bystanders

Castle Grayskull had over a dozen guys in a big skirmish on the box.
I know that's nowhere near the finished art, but I really think it needs more characters in more little skirmishes

I agree, it should probably be a bit more busy. This is a showcase one off item, it should have some amazing box art, not just in the quality but the grandeur.

Also surprised the characters featured in as stretch goals aren't being represented. Keclar could be in the background somewhere, the moat creature should be in the background, and King Grayskull could have been back there on his Bionatops.

Some questions I could use some help with:

1) If Eternia is $600+ after shipping & tax, what kind of precendent will this set for the price of Snake Mountain? It's not much bigger or more detailed than Castle Grayskull that MSRPs at $80 but can be gotten on sale for even less... 4) Has anyone had any success finding Origins shit in the wild? Every time I go into Target in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas, it's nothing but wave 7 STILL pegwarming. If I go into Walmart is Roton something I can just walk in and buy now for like $35?

5) Help me understand what's going on with all these Walmart exclusives, and whatever that "walmart con" thing that happened last week was all about. I understood that Moss Man was going to be an MC Exclusive but he's actually a Walmart exclusive? How's that work? Will he just be in stores on release or will I have to order him online through walmart? I want to get Road Ripper and Mekaneck but I'm also not sure what's going on with that... I had the option to pre-order it or buy it the other day on Walmart's website, and now it's no longer available :|

In other words a high amount made, meaning cheaper costs. If they make Snake Mountain for retail I'd expect between 100-150.

3. Kinda. Quantities have definitely decreased from the earlier waves, so if you really want a character you're better off preordering.

4. It's usually the same stuff all the time. Assuming your store has sold out of all the previous vehicles, you may see them.

5. Walmart pays for exclusives, so Mattel (and other companies) make some for them. Moss Man is a Walmart exclusive because he's flocked. I wouldn't be too surprised if there's a non-flocked general release one down the line. Should be in stores and online, but Walmart is a crapshoot sometimes.
