Got Transmutate
had a hell of a time making a fanmode for her, I'm still not happy with it. It seems that gold pegs only work in gold holes, and teal pegs in teal holes. That combined with parts that lack versatile connectors or really can't be usefully shortened without rendering a piece useless, and i'm not happy enough with my result to share it. I'm tempted to buy another one, since I saw a two-of-her fanmode.

Anon I don't mean to discourage you, but I think you should think and plan carefully about more potential modes, even asking anons with Transmutate and Paleotrex (or just two Paleos) to test things out first before you get a second copy of a figure you might not know what to do with.

that's what I was thinking. I don't wanna put good money after bad. I got this one on discount as it is.
after tweaking the one i came up with a little, it's not too bad. it's just disappointing because I can see how much better this could have been. There's a particular parts orientation that I see in a few fanmodes that ... leaves her with nothing holding her spine together, because that peg is so loose in that hole. Because a lot of the parts just need to go together because they won't connect to squat else. Otherwise I was hoping I could get the t-rex head as her cannon arm.

Well there are a lot of parts that really beg to be used as certain parts of her, like the ribcage as her upper torso, but it's just not viable due to lack of connectors. So it's frustrating because of how much better it looks like it could be.

though I think another decent idea would be to integrate the claws (and ideally, thicker claw-arms this time, but thinner claws, more like a real crab) into the treads part of the tank mode. I think it'll look better that way, and you can rearrange the crab legs a lot more easily. I don't see a modern voyager pulling off what the original toy did, wouldn't trust current-hasbro with rubber anyway, and there's no way he's getting a leader class.

I've made quite a few of the threads and it's a bit vexing. Just do a once-over in the current/past threads for updated pastebins, come up with a passable topic, delete the (embed)s, double-check for any "teehee I changed the OP to justify gothreads next time" and submit, legitimately doable on a telephone.
You can do what you want regarding your question, just know that goanon will respond to it three different times, in various "aw shucks but we're in the good thread" personas or just having the usual angry meltdown.

I think the plastic tolerance differences with the colors might be what's causing the looseness, because it's happening when I try to plug teal pegs into gold holes

Sounds like you got a bad draw from the QC Lotto - I use the exact configuration in that pic on my own Transmutate, and everything's nice and tight.

I personally love him, but I love crazy weird colors. The screaming mouth is also great.

They used that mold 3 times in the TF Prime line, not sure if it was used outside that line though. It’s a pretty great mold. Even with the same body, the different heads and paint go a long way in making Wheeljack, Dead End, and Wildrider look unique.

Not sure how much he goes for, but if he’s in your price range you might as well go for it.

Thanks for the answer - he looks pretty good in a more dynamic pose, and I'm one of those weirdos who actually likes G2-esque bright colorschemes, so that's a plus in my book. I never would have thought that mold was originally for Wheeljack, though - I don't ever remember him being a sword user, and it's odd that even the version that actually is supposed to be him is missing his wings
Either way, I think I'll track this spooky dude down after all - he really does look like fun.

For all its faults, I've always liked the TLK Berserker mold and I love that Hatchet is still a retool of it, backpack folds up the same, rear windows on the arms, front doors folded on the backs of the legs. I stopped buying movie figures years ago but I'll definitely pick this guy Hatchet and dig out Berserker (Crankcase) and Crowbar.

And Hound looks really good too. Siege Hound was a fantastic toy and this one looks to be 80% the same, so how can it be anything but good?

Good thing the Junkions are all coming with a bunch of car parts you can use to Mad Max him up then.
Honestly though, I think the Siege mold would work better for Detritus. Especially if they gave him a new the front bumper, which would be easy since it was a separate piece

You can remove Needlenose's tailfin and attach it to his gun, then pull up his nosecone Aerialbot style.
Mark keeps hinting at hidden features in the mold, and not just the jet thruster thing (which apparently uses a unique port).

RIP Wildwheel's hat. Damn thing fell down into the dimension where fired missiles go because some idiot thought not having a place to store it in vehicle mode was an acceptable design choice. Supposedly it's meant to store but the clearance required is nonexistent and I could never get it to fit in there.

Is what I would be saying. But the way to get Buzzworthy stuff around here is at TRU and that means having to pony up for 40 bucks for a deluxe.

In the video game industry they have a saying; fun over realism. Whenever there is a debate fun always wins. In this case, where cartoon accuracy is to realism, I would’ve gone with fun

Transformers Car Robots J-Five

This is an ol' fashioned shinkansen. When I think bullet train, this is it.

Like the other two J-five is a square tube. If a bit pointier at the end.
Looking at them now, all three seem to belong to different railway companies.
But I suppose that's no different from the Autobot bothers all being different makes of car.

J-five goes for a simple colour combo, off white with light blue on the roof.
With a duo of black and blue lines running along the windows.
Like the other two, J-five's gun turns into connector stuff at the rear.

I can't ignore the handsomeness of a white and blue robot.

J-five is a tad compromised, more than J-seven but near to the degree of J-four.
Really it's just sharing some of J-seven's odd proportions and a bulbous chest.

You know J-five takes his job as a train seriously since he wears the front of train both on his chest and on his head.
People complain about this set's clear plastic but it hasn't bothered me any. Doesn't feel particularly fragile or anything.

The red eyes are an interesting choice. J-five's are much more clearly red than J-four's dark pink ones.

J-five feels more posable than the other two.
I don't think he actually is, it just feels that way.

He's hot two swivels in his shoulder area. So his arms can move on both axis.
A barbell joint in the elbows for double jointed bending.
No wrists, waist, or ankles.

There is a neck swivel. And balljointed hips, which you can do something with since the skirt armor moves.
Like the rest J-five's knees are way too high up. At least he has swivels below the knees, for whatever tiny good those do.

The gun lights up too! In another toyline they may combined that with all the clear plastic in a more effective way.

Depends on how many you have. If I have a lot of a continuity (like SG or Armada) then they get their own shelf, otherwise they’re grouped by theme/function (decepticon leaders, undead bots, etc)

Yes. He has no kibble whatsoever on-screen. We only get to see him in 'robot' mode for a few seconds before he gets obliterated, so it's hard to tell, but yeah - that's exactly how he looked; obviously, the new toy needs kibble to actually transform, since staying completely screen-accurate would be impossible, but it's not on his movie model.

I will never get the love for that mold. The upper arms and thighs are too damn small to pull off poses. The engineering is nice and intuitive, the ankle rockers are surprising additions in a time they were totally random, but you can't pose the fucking thing much at all.

Literally nothing scales well with Titans, Metroplex is supposed to be two miles tall. The tiny little Optimus (that came in the Centurion box), Rodimus, and Galvatron (that came with Unicron) are appropriately sized for the Ark, I guess.

Of course, scale is infamously inconsistent within the series, I wouldn't worry too terribly much about it.

Titans scale ok between them, excluding the titants that shouldn't be titans (Devastator, Predaking and Omega, all of them should be a bit bigger than jetfire or the other cw combiners), the roads and helipads on titans work better with small legends/cyberverse/3p legends toys or titanmasters and their tiny tripple changer vehicles.

Of course it's al in the shoulders but he just has this heft that ER Prime doesn't and it feels good in hand

I'm less bothered by the visible pink in the shoulders than I thought I would be.
The pink in the shoulder blocks, the chest windows, the light piping and the tiny bit from the truck cab poking over his back make a very nice sort of frame around around his face

The arm articulation is a bummer, but, like, he's so cool!

looking at some of the tiny details from the scrapped design, it looks like they originally wanted skullgrin's torso to pop up to a higher level, and come forward so you could have the skull crotch sticking forward.
I'm guessing the big compromise they had to make was to work with such a massive head they had to cut back on the transformation.
Had they gave him the robot head and made the skull be a snap on accessory it probably would have worked.

One thing I really love about him and by extension Laser Prime that I haven't seen a lot of people mention is that his hands are on ball joints. It seems like a really inexpensive method to have them be articulated and fold into his forearm and I hope more figures use that.

Finally at the big combination.
Was it all worth it? Well, he certainly is a big train man.

I think he looks alight. Not too big, a bi taller than leader class I'd say.
The colours work I'd say J-four and J-five are predominately white and blue so there's no clashing there. And the grey J-seven is almost fully relegated to the backpack.
Which I am a fan of. Having a member almost fully dedicated to forming the booster pack of a superspeed gestalt is fair play in my book.

The transformation for two of them are fun. J-four' as the legs leaves something to be desired.
Pulling the hands out of J-five's legs can be a pain.

JRX has an amount of articulation.

The shoulders have swivels on both axis and there are hinges separates from J-five's keens to use as elbows. The knees can be used to break JRX's arms at a very painful angle.
He's also got opening hands with a moving thumb.

The hips are ratcheted in both directions, which is definitely a good thing.
Although maybe mine are getting worn out since there is a lot of slop and play in-between the points. Doing a more dynamic spread leg pose is out.
Thighs swivel and knees bend some still.

The skirt armor is on ball joints to help is move out of the way.
The neck and jet boosters are on ball joints too but are both pretty much limited to swiveling.

JRX can hold the weapons of the individual bots just fine. I think the guns are supposed to be able to plug together but I have no idea how to do it.

I've been having a bit of fun with it.
Pound for pound it's a hella good deal. Motormaster has the same mass as about three leader class toys.
The brick of a trailer is in the same weight class as Armada Prime's (with the batteries removed)

They're both good figures and I enjoyed them as a kid, they hold up, but I'll be 100% honest with you and say even as a kid, their heights were extremely disappointing. Lugnut also lacks his "Punch of Kill Everything" gimmick which was a huge shame to me, but it is what it is. Personally can't wait for them to do a modern Lugnut, late next year or 2024 or whenever.
