Got back into them because of my friends kid and am having a blast. Bought an Arrma Typhon 6s V5 a few months ago, thing is a rocket but I've yet to find a big enough jump with a landing to hit at full speed, this is only a quarter throttle.

yeah the modern stuff is batshit. brother got me a kraton for my birthday because he remembered I was into rc years ago.
next thing you know I added 5 more, dug out some old ones and got them running again, and now I'm starting to collect the ones I couldn't afford as a kid, like that optima
the big brushless power systems now are hilarious, there's no weight or size penalty since the answer is always "just add power!"

I was hell bent on getting a Kraton until a friend convinced me on the Typhon, it's essentially the same chassis motor and all as the Outcast but smaller. I like how it's at home at a BMX track or doing 100kmh on bitumen but my new favourite thing is drifting on 4s in the rain. Definitely keen on a Kraton or the 4s Outcast in the future.

Looking at speed test vids the 4s Kraton holds its own for sure. Are you planning on running the stock motor on the optima or mess around with a sweet brushless setup?

brushed for sure, it doesn't need to do 60. reedy radon, 1060 esc. it won't be seeing any bashing, it's just something I lusted after when I was kid so I had to have it.
I have done some silly projects, like taking the cheapest rustler traxxas sells, making it grossly overpowered, and upgrading parts to survive the abuse

oof! never had that happen but when I install a new one I check it every couple minutes, if it's being weird I get rid of it. actually I do that for all of brands hah
except traxxas velieon or whatever it's called, I don't buy those. wildly over-priced for mediocre performance. spektrum is good stuff though.
iirc about half my stuff is brushed, one of the most fun trucks I have started as a base 2wd slash

A few people on youtube comments and forums have had the same thing happen, it just starts stuttering on 3s and catches fire, good thing it was only secured with velcro so I could rip it off before it took the car and battery with it. Nice collection man, never really driven 2WD ones, obv even lighter with no front drivetrain and diff and more of a challenge to race yeah?
