Does anyone know any plush makers that make Build a Bear sized plush? It's self indulgent, but I really want to commission a Buila a Bear sized plush of one of my own characters so I can dress her up and all that silly fun stuff. Help me out bros, drop any makers you know of

What's the best way to keep plushies soft? I've just been using cold water on a wash cloth with a little bit of watered down hand soap on it. It makes them feel a little better but I really want them clean and I'm scared to put them in the washer. What do you think I should do?

I'm pretty sure there are people on etsy who will make custom embroidered patches. Perhaps you could have some of those made to sew onto the face if you can't find a way to embroider it on directly?

If you want to handwash your plush, I'd recommend using detergent, not hand soap, to clean them. You could even combine that with gentle fabric softener. I've discovered that a wire brush, like a slicker brush desiged for pets, does an incredible job fluffing out the fabric once it's been matted down. Be very careful with it around embroidery and seams (I learned the hard way), and use a gentle touch and just a few strokes on each area. It works like magic to bring back the softness.

Embroidery is easier than you think. I picked it up myself last year, and since I could hand sew pretty decent it was a nice transition. Also know that is you do go the commission route they generally run 400-800 for smaller plushies, but big ones run 1000+

I admit I haven't actually looked into it, but I would imagine there are people who will at least be willing to digitize a regular image file for you, so you don't need to find your own embroidery software. Most people don't have that, so it's a money making opportunity for people with the know how, right?

I used a wire brush to restore a plush with very smooth fabric like the one in your photo, and it didn't harm the fabric at all. I think if you're gentle, it's worth a try, because it will get into the fabric pile and work out knots much better than a nail brush. Start with a small, inconspicuous area, and if it works then you're likely safe to go ahead (again minding the seams and embroidery). I've also used a detergent pod when I didn't have access to liquid detergent, and it worked great, so that won't be a problem for you. If you can't soak your plush, then you'll probably need to use several rounds of clean water on your washcloth to get the detergent out, but the results are worth it.

Depending on how round the serrated edges are, it might be even gentler than a wire brush.

Do you think the type of detergent really matters? I only have standard stuff on hand.
Here's what I'm going to do aw my method so please tell me if anything seems odd. I'm going to put the detergent in a bowl, put cold water in the bowl and put the washcloth in it and wipe it on the plush. I'll then wash it off with either the faucet or a wet washcloth. So I decided to try doing the tape dispenser brush thing because it would be easy and quick to do (I don't have much time when my roommate is not in the room and I really try to hide my disney princess plushies from him). Yeah, cleaning them all at once will be more convenient. No, detergent type shouldn't matter much for the outcome. I personally recommend soaking the whole plush because you can get the soap on and off more efficiently, but since you're short on time, you can definitely use the washcloth method and get the same results. That method also means that you can simply air dry your plush; since you're in a college dorm, the last thing you want to do is use their dryers. They are likely not delicate enough for that.

Yeah I'm nervous about putting plushies in dryers in general. Also I think if only want to soak the actual soft parts of the plush. So for my Moana, the main thing would be her and face with her arms and legs being cleaned to a lesser degree. The arms and legs will probably get a washcloth. How often do you clean your plushies?

Like icarus I flew too close to the sun. I decided to try soaking her to clean her but I didn't have a way to dry her enough. She was damp for around 2 days with not much improvement. However I just came up with this. I put it on max and put the temperature as warm as it would go. I figure that should work well.

Any recs for quality makers of large stuffed animals that I can get in the US? Ideally machine washable. Bought from Wild Republic and they had obvious defects, seem pretty cheap, and can't go through the machine. I thought I could still enjoy it but it just wasn't nice to hug so I donated it to another thrift store. It is a shame because they often have ones that you won't find anywhere else. I don't have a pic of her because she's back at my dad's place currently, but her wings are made of quite cheap material and I prefer her without wings really. Other than that it's mostly just the cheap material fill.

Is the fill actual stuffing or is it Styrofoam? If it's Styrofoam pellets I heavily recommend restuffing her outside. I tried restuffing a plush filled with Styrofoam in my room and it was a nightmare. It's even crazier because the plush already had the majority of the Styrofoam out. She was my first sewing project. She was similar to this but her fabric isn't as good.

Aw man, thank you guys! I actually ham-fisted this pattern together over a year ago, cut the mohair and just had the pieces sitting in a box for all this time. I'll see if I can find the pattern and scan it for you, anon.

2022 was supposed to be a fun year of creating and getting my store set up, but instead it was just another big ol' sad. Making these guys has really jazzed me up again, though. Fingers crossed for '23.

I was referring to the architect meme, since she is big and fat and it's just my type. Unfortunately yeah I think she is pretty dang rare. I was able to get a great Hyacinth Hippo plush with a similar body shape (picrel) that is very cozy. I even got another one to keep nice so I can have one to cuddle guilt free

There are a bunch of guy plush makers. Look up Michael Karydas or Pinion Feather Crafts. Both dudes. As for making plushies as a beginner, Choly Knight has free patterns with beginner tutes https://cholyknight.com/plushies/ that are very simple with good directions.

Is anyone still playing Toreba? I remember years ago it was a very hot topic on here for a few months, some anons won quite a few plushies with free tries, but then we stopped talking about it all of a sudden and I haven't even seen it mentioned once since. As far as I'm aware the service is still running, what happened to it that people stopped caring?

I won a bunch of things from the crane games, but after a couple months of popularity their machines suddenly became 10x weaker and nobody was winning anything. I think that Japanese integrity with decently calibrated machines kind of bit them in the ass and they were losing too much on stock, and it was a little too apparent that they had rigged the win rate.

I was considering commissioning a 30 inch tall Zelda plush in her breath of the wild outfit. After thinking about it and talking with some people, I'm now filled with existential dread.
Why do I keep wanting more? I already have like 120 plushies with quite a few being rare and high quality ones. So why can't I be content?
I did some more thinking and realized that when I want a plush, it's not always just wanting them. I seek the thrill of sneaking them in the house without my parents knowing. I seek the thrill of waiting for them to come in the mail. I just like having something to look forward to and be excited about. Then when I do get that plush, I'm excited and enjoy it for like 2-3 weeks. Then I want another plush to chase that high again. Does anyone else feel like this and if you do, how do you cope?

I have one plushie that I love dearly, one I started making and never really got to finishing and one I found that needs repairs that I also didn't get into fixing yet, even after quite some time.
I would like to get a nice, big plush to cuddle with in bed at night, but I feel guilty, already having not only my dear one but also two in the hopper waiting to be worked on.

I've tried all the tricks and tips, I've studied how things are won etc.
Unless you're incredibly luck behind someone that doesn't know something is winnable it's just a waste imo.

I don't know what happened, but like the other anon said it seems incredibly weaker than before.

I don't want to have to put 25-35 USD in for a plush. Especially with how weak the JPY is right now.

Some people put up plush hammocks on their walls, if space is an issue you could try one of those. It doesn't protect from dust as effectively as a display case would but from my experience dust accumulates much less in high places close to the ceiling so they should be fine there.

I mean I’d still regularly open the cabinets to hold them, I just have nowhere else to put them except a drawer and the floor. I used to rotate some for my bed but I kept accidentally knocking them off. Also another storage space would help me see more of them instead of half being buried in a pile all the time

I won I think about a dozen things on it back in 2019/2020 only putting 20ish USD into the app total. It was great back then but before even loading the cranes now it's just depressing to look at, so much they don't let you use the free play tickets for that I just stopped bothering altogether
