They did, along with Tripwire. The OP needs to be updated and that's kind of my fault. I got really sick a few weeks and have been trying to catch up with work so I wasn't keeping up with starting these threads and updating the Google doc I keep the OP text in. Ratcheting joints are standard, yes.
As for tightness or looseness, that can be one of the more frustating shortcomings of the line, because even though the figures are better that other Hasbro lines in many aspects, at the end of the day the materials and tolerances are just as cheap. So, yeah, it can be common and it's especially noticeable when there are so many joints and the figures are so good in other aspects.

What you said is what happened. They snuck in a black Viper figure into the set unannounced and people are reporting that both the squad leader and the token white regular Viper have black forearms and white necks and upon contacting/returning the figures for replacements, they keep getting the same error.

At this point, it's safer to just pay the rape dollar price for Cobra Island Viper figures since they fucked up the three pack with their lies and shoddy production issues.

It wasn't sneaked, in people were commenting on the live stream on the appearance they had different skin tones and people talk about it here quite a bit. In fact the white viper looked much closer to a dark tan on the Stream so conversation about diversified Vipers was a talking point. One anon here got one that had an error and and tried to make this weird fictional story that they contacted Hasbro and got the same error in a replacement. Why? No idea but these are the kind of weird narratives an anon wants to spin here that gets less posters than a Hisstank thread.

iirc there are people getting unhinged their CI Vipers have started to take a huge hit in price now that the 3 Pack is out, it's comparable outrage to when the 2007 Botcon Thundercraker got a mainline figure release in 2011, where some are mad because they can't flip it for so much and others are just stressed they overpaid for no reason.

Honestly sounds pretty plausible. From what I've seen, the mismatched caucasion neck with the black arms seems to be a really common issue. Though, I'm guessing its total lack of care and QC on Hasbro's part. They probably had the gauntlets put on the arms, and shit got mixed together, or they just thought people probably wouldn't notice. I've seen YT reviews of the Viper three pack where people got it, and the whole comment section is full of people that also received the mis-matched parts.

CI Viper took a massive hit, he was still floating at the $80 range but since the 3-pack drop it's been losing about $10 in value every week, selling as low as $35. I'm sure there are some collectors and spectators not taking that too well and would love to push any bs they can as a means to cope for over spending/investing in the CI one.

I got my Beach Head today. Really great figure, one of the best on the Joe side. I just wish the design on his primary gun was something a bit more real. I should look into what other options are available. Whatever I go with, I think I want it in green.

You could get try the Valaverse weapon packs. They're about half as much as a Classified figure which isn't too bad considering third party options are often $5+ a gun and you get some effects pieces which is nice. The Charlie pack has some that would fit in with his color scheme.

Now, I will say this much-- the leadership of Cobra is not as visibly diverse as GI Joe, however that is kind of superficial when you consider the fact that Cobra's leaders are a lot more international, so they're actually quite diverse in that way. The rank and file Cobra troopers on the other hand have always been shown to be just as racially diverse as the GI Joes.

That's not 'modern politics', that was how it was in the original movies and how Lucas envisioned it. George Lucas was an incredibly political creator and the stark differences in the visible racial make up of the Rebel Alliance versus The Imperial Forces were a deliberate choice. It's only the newer Disney era games/movies and tv shows that break from that and colourwash The Empire/First Order to make them more marketable

COBRA is literally "an organization" which is why almost everyone (barring "private contractors" ) wears the same uniform.

Hasbro probably had a certain quota of waves/individual figures they had to meet. I know in the case of Marvel Legends, they often only make 2-packs because retailers are cool with selling them, or they’re retailer exclusive. Idk if retailers have the same confidence in GI Joe to make that call, judging from how Croc Master and both SE Timber 2-packs haven’t hit retail. Just a guess though.

Croc Master is one of the only figures I've seen in stock at Wal-Mart and he sold out almost immediately. I can always find the GI Joe section at Wal-Mart because it's the big empty hole in the action figure aisle. At target they usually have some of the ReAction figures in stock, though.

Game focused retailers are having a lot of weirdness right now. All of them are being forced to diversify because used console games are retaining less and less value as people go all-digital, and retro games that aren't sports and shitty licensed games are becoming very rare and expensive. In my area, there's three different game store chains: Gamestop, Game X-Change, and Retro Games Plus. Retro Games Plus is diversified with movies, reproduction games, toys (mostly used / vintage), Lego sold by the scoop, Gunpla, and comic back issues. Game X-Change is is basically trying everything. Used laptops, phones, tablets and headphones, manga, movies, funky pop stuff, and they even have crypto ATMs. I have never seen a crypto ATM before, but they have them at Game X-Change. And then Gamestop is... gamestop. They're not quite as all over the place as Game X-Change but they are clearly struggling with an identity problem. I think in the end they are going to settle on being kind of like Hot Topic but they also sell video games and tabletop games, but they're never going to commit all the way on table top so you're not gonna see them selling Warhammer and paints, at least not at most locations. I heard some larger locations have gaming tables now, though.

Believe it or not, there was a "selfie figure" for GI Joe in the 90s in the form of the mail-away Steel Brigade figure, but it was not actually all that exciting. It was just a masked figure that came with a customized file card with your name written on it. It wasn't even a cardboard one that matched the official file cards, it was just a printed out sheet of paper, which I guess was more impressive back when most people didn't have home printers. In any case though, I remember really liking the idea of having a GI Joe of myself when I was a kid, and in a way I'd love to get one for myself as an adult on behalf of my childhood self.

If you want cheap guns for these or McFarlane, Walmart's "Kid Connection" line has some military stuff with guns(probably Chap Mei repacks). The figures & vehicles are 1:18 but the guns are 1:12(because of fucking course they are!) but the sets overall are cheaper than buying online packs & they're all black, not that gaudy tan & green crap Valaverse does. The first two animated miniseries are pretty good. The third one is kinda shit. The cartoon is fun but like all 80s cartoons it's best enjoyed in small bursts since there's not a lot of overarching story. The animated movie is basically a bridge between the two Sunbow seasons and the two DiC seasons (the DiC seasons are more cheaply made compared to the Sunbow ones).

There were a few DTV releases in the 90s an 2000s and I'm not very well versed on those. There were three other cartoons as well. Sigma 6 is a more anime-like sci-fi reimagining of GI Joe (animation by Gonzo) with a long format narrative. Overall, it's decent. The GI Joe Resolute movie is an adult reimagining that makes some odd character choices, but at least looks great. GI Joe Renegades was the final cartoon. It borrows heavily from The A-Team and it's really good. The story's self contained but I wish they did Season 2.

I enjoy the movies but YMMV. Rise of Cobra has some very fun action sequences comparable to the Sunbow animations and Snake Eyes kicks ass. They do some annoying shit too though, like trying to downplay the Americana parts of the IP and showing GI Joe as a more international group. The Joe costumes are boring black tacticool shit and Marlon Wayans is really obnoxious. Even so, I think it was overall pretty good.

The sequel is better in some ways and worse in others. It was done on a smaller budget and you can tell, but they wisely made it more like a conventional 80s action movie than the first one. They basically kill off all the main characters from the first movie except Snake Eyes, or at least imply that they had to go into hiding, which is annoying but not unexpected since the movie came out 4 years later (in Hollywood, 2 years is the standard turnaround time for a sequel). It has even more ninja action than the first, and some of the best I've seen in any movie period.

Don't watch GI Joe Origins: Snake Eyes. It's just terrible, hardly even worth mentioning.

Action Force is kind of predicated on the fact that they are using things that Hasbro has allowed the trademark to lapse on, or things that they did not have exclusive rights to in the first place (like Sgt. Slaughter). Sometimes it does come across as a bit obnoxious though, like they're going "sue us Hasbro, I double dog dare you." I think the idea behind Action Force / Valaverse is fine, that is, a more military-accurate line of GI Joe-like toys for adult collectors. I think that's fine, and I think the cross-compatible accessories makes for a good value proposition for people who are already collecting GI Joe Classified. What I don't like is the rockstar antics of the people making the toys and the groupie antics of the fans. Instead of being happy that both toy lines exist they have to hype up Valaverse like it's eating GI Joe's lunch. It's bad enough when the person making a product sees themselves as Steve Jobs, it's even worse when their customers see the product like it's the 1984 Mac commercial.

So I finally picked up that Snake Eyes Movie Baroness that has been warming pegs at my Wal-Mart for the last year. I gave the her gun to my Lady Jaye since it fits her way better than the spear gun. That was my biggest criticism of the first movie, the costumes, specifically on the Joe side. The suits would have been fine if they didn't limit themselves to black and gray for everything. I didn't even buy the figure of Duke in his Joe uniform because it was so dull and didn't remind me at all of what I think of as Duke, so I got the US Army version of him and that was my main Duke for the line.

I mean, look at this Crimson Viper figure, and how much better the design pops with some color.

Yeah, I'd buy this guy in a heart beat. The Neo Vipers were neat, and the Viper types are so varied across GI Joe that they're believable to fit in even through the context of the movie. Retaliation's version of CC was pretty cool looking too, I particularly liked his helmet and stuff.

I'd buy some figures based on the movies, but not many. I skipped all the SE movie figures. I'd get Scarlett and SE if they went down cheap enough, but I never saw them that cheap. Also, like 90% of my Classified collection is Cobra, and I've mostly skipped out on the Joes.

I do want Classified to dip into other lines from the past. Hope they really do end up doing some of the Battle Corps stuff from the 90's, though they've already heavily hinted they are, like the Blue-ish Beachhead and the Green Firefly and some others. Would like to see them do POC figures too. Would love to see some of the generic Cobra Troopers, like the black/maroon Alley Vipers, Night Vipers, Shock Troopers, etc.

I had pre-ordered that third party 1/12 Retaliation Snake Eyes but ended up cancelling it since it would feel out of place with the Classified stuff being that it was all soft goods. Been rummaging through boxes in my recently deceased father's house. Ran across these guys and couldn't believe he still had them in storage. All of the other ones look so bland, though. Echo, Charlie, and Alfa are basically identical. Delta at Bravo is the only decent ones, but considering the other one and the gunner are both pretty much pure red, this guy's only got some red trim. For all we know, Delta might be the closest we'd ever get to a Techno Viper out of this line.

I got one that's ghostbusters. That's the only one of value, it was probably the original concept plan.

It has a pack, blast, and PKE meter and the tag says ROOKIE so you could easily take your head and put it on another figure then use the body and stuff for a custom rookie to go with your ghostbusters with one of the alt heads from the pile of heads im sure everyone has.

The bodies aren't the greatest and 12" collectors want either AT or classic pre-ARAH Joe. I managed to transfer the heads of most of my own favs from the '90s 12" line to the updated post-00s super articulated body and redress them. For awhile I could pick up 12" super articulated Joes for $5 at Tuesday Morning. So Duke, CC, and others all have a nice range of motion now for posing.

I'm spamming Bravo every chance I get. He's the only one that really fits with the rest of the team color-wise. But his outfit could easily mark him as the Tank Commander where the others are driver and gunner.

Trying to get an "Almost Techno-Viper" is silly as Hasbro will get around to him eventually (he's a viper with a ton of unique gear and would make a great Classified figure). The rest of the color options are just kind of boring.

Bravo is the way to go.

I don't really care about getting a custom figure of myself, but being able to create a custom OC figure in general seems like it'd be a really fun idea. My biggest problem with this whole thing is the body options for the Joe figures. Snake Eyes and Scarlett are probably the two worst choices because they're both way too character specific. They should've made the males either Green Shirts or Steel Brigade and the females should've been based more on Lady Jaye (though I can see skintone being an issue with that one). While Cobra should have also gotten some options with either classic Troopers or a unique colored Baroness body.

I'm sure they'll add more figures to the rotation eventually, but for now I have no interest in adding another Snake Eyes or Scarlett to my collection.

Oh I'd be all in on a Classified Doc, it's a criminal shame that the Joes premiere medical officer has seen so little representation in toy form. Even back during the ME releases, I had to make my own since a classic looking Doc was only available through mail away after buying a bunch of Comic 2 packs.

But any of the med side Joes would be great to have, Doc, Fem Doc, Lifeline, Stretcher, hell even Scalpel would be a pretty cool figure.

It's not a terrible movie.

It's not a great movie, but all the ninja stuff is kino and RoadRock does not become an Arashikage. Cobra Commander is a decent threat and looks the part, and his plot to take over the White House was good. The main Joes were pretty forgettable, and the idea of using Bruce Willis as Joe Colton is good on paper. Unfortunately, Willis was at the start of his downward spiral as an actor.

Claiming that Roadblock is a ninja and that GI Joe is a ninja commando force seems like the kind of bullshit that they'd do in foreign marketing, like how in Italy they routinely renamed Godzilla movies as King Kong and put King Kong on the poster. It's like Hasbro either didn't know their own products or they figured only Ninja stuff would sell. I'm starting to think the latter, because they made the shitty Snake Eyes in name only movie years later just so they could sell ninja-branded toys.

The movie was weird. The Jewel of the Sun is an obscure deep cut, from a really shitty pseudo manga set in the Devil's Due time-line. I'm willing to bet the writers just wikidived and saw it was an Arashikage thing.

The movie could have been a lot more passable if they went with a next generation thing- like Snake Eyes' father being the 80s Snake Eyes we know. And it needed a lot more neon Yakuza shit.

I think the CI Roadblock figure was based on unused concept art from the Snake Eyes movie or something. He feels so different and unique from any other concept of Roadblock that it had to be something Hollywood related. That said, I've personally come to call him "Broiler" based on the tag on his gun, and use him as the teams High Energy Railgun specialist. Mainly because I can totally see Heavy Duty getting an actual figure at some point.

Both of the live action Joe movies had their really strong points and their "what the hell is this?" moments. The Commander and the whole Ninja aspect in general were probably some of the best parts of Retaliation. As far as I'm concerned, some of the worst were any moments dealing with the Joes themselves because none of them *felt* like G.I. Joes. The part where "Lady Jaye" gets called out in her "disguise" because it was literally just a skimpy dress and she did nothing to alter her face will never not be one of the dumbest thing I've seen on film. "Master of Disguise" was literally one of her defining traits and they couldn't even be assed to even remotely capture that on film.

The Rock def only plays himself for the most part. Scorpion King, Hobbs & Shaw, Jumanji are all entertaining enough. They rest range, but he does commit to promoting the shit out of it. Despite it being the Rock playing the Rock, San Andreas works for a disaster movie. Way more than Skyscraper or Rampage. Making Rockblock the team lead was a mistake, but he def worked when along side Duke for 5 seconds.

The Joes don't have too many high profile black characters. RB, cousin HD, Stalker of course, Doc, and Alpine is pretty decently known. Some might think of Iceberg, but Snow Job and Frostbite are higher profile snow-based characters. Doc was a pacifist so it may put off some wanting to use him. Don't recall if Doc's daughter (aka Doc II) was a pacifist but I think giving her a bump up to offer both a new female and minority character as a regular would benefit the line. Classic Doc could come later. For designers that want to see more representation in the line-up, they should explore some of those interesting later characters (Helix, for example) to sprinkle in 1 every wave or so.

There's scarcely an end to interesting diversity hires for the Joes. Like Shipwreck, if they weren't counting Latinos as white.
Tunnel Rat of course sees lots of use for being a non-martial arts Asian, and more specifically Larry Hama.
All the doctors and field medics are black except Lifeline, I think (Doc, Stretcher, Link Talbot).
Airborne is a Navajo lawyer spoiled by rich parents.

Why is J Scott Campbell doing the art for Zarana's box? He's never learned how to draw more than 1 female body or 1 female face his entire career. Not to mention most of the titles he's worked on have played the fetish stuff as borderline rape as well as 2 of the 3 girls from gen13 being way underage when he drew them in lingerie, being fondled, etc.(as if Gen13 is a high mark with how shitty it was written. People only remember the busty redhead character, that is all) Not that he's been a relevant artist or anything else in a long time(how Dark Horse didn't sue him for much of Danger Girl plagiarizing Hellboy is beyond me). He also likes to make people think he's related to Bruce Campbell when they're not- I have to imagine Bruce was thinking "what the hell is this & who are you?" when he got roped into doing an intro letter for the Danger Girl collection(which was probably written by someone else anyway).

Hasbro, you can't be that desperate for artists. Be honest, he worked cheap. That's the only reason you hired him.

Waaay back when my uncle gave me all of his Joes wrapped in masking tape. It's kinda hard to get them at non collector prices regardless of condition so while they aren't ideal I can slowly piece em up. A loose Joe in poor to fair condition shouldn't cost more than $7 imo but geeks are asking $12-20 for just the figure, it's lame.

So far Pulse membership is only worth it if you are impatience. iirc the only two one and done offered figures was Target Major Bludd and Amazon Storm Shadow. Even the color changing Zartan got restocked several times. I get the fear of missing out fucks with some people but I'm not sure it's worth the near nonexistent times you are ordering less than $50 on Pulse online the way they give a glut of stuff at once.

They got rid of the free shipping over $50, which definitely makes it more worthwhile. But only if you buy a substantial amount of their stuff or back a haslab. Had I had premium when buying the hiss tank it would have about paid for itself with the couple things I bought since, where as now I’ll probably be waiting until this time next year to break even on it.

That's the bigger issue really is short of their Pulse only stuff Everyone else is offering free shipping either out right or in om capacity. It gets worse when Pulse is usually dead last to get the products shipped. Ignore the Walmart mistake in the summer of 2020 most people got their earliest Bats/Alley Vipers in October/November From Amazon, Target, and Walmart orders, meanwhile Pulse wasn't until mid January of 2021 which was the third restock of Amazon by that point.

You are paying for this membership that is just making you wait longer than if you order for the sites that offer free shipping after certain thresholds

This was, I believe, the third time Mindbender went up and the second for Serpentor, so you could get another chance. They're likely doing it on purpose cause they know they'll sell out each time they put some up. But also likely we'll get "retro" releases with alternate colors and less accessories

Not a fan of the mis-match on the troopers like others have said though. In a three pack, having a 2-to-1 Troop/Officer split can work, but in a two pack the figures need to both be troopers. Give them different faces, web gear and load outs, but have them both be the same rank. Unless the fem-trooper gets a single card release, this will make it way harder to troop build the ladies.

Though they do get points for including the classic Cobra Grease-gun. I'll probably just stick to one set and have them be the Baroness's personal troopers.

I finally managed to conquer my autism. Or make it 100 times worse, I'm not sure.

I kept trying to figure out how to balance a 5 man Viper squad with 2 target vipers and the 3pack. But I didn't like the color variation in the stock vipers. Finally, I decided to split it up:

Buy a 2nd 3 pack. Now pair off the darker color 3pack vipers with one lighter color target viper into a 3man fire team. Take the two grey "liutenants" and put a Python Patrol viper in charge of them as the officer fire team and have a 9 person team, with three smaller, 3 man fire teams, and now everyone's color variation makes sense to me.

... now to figure out how to handle the fem troopers.

Like an individual character, or a troop type? If they ever get around to them, SAW-Viper and HEAT-Viper are the heavy weapon troops, a machine gunner and a rocket launcher guy.

If you want a character who's a big brawler type, there's Croc Master, or you can wait for Copperhead or one of the Dreadnoks. The movie version of Firefly fit that role, too.
