You know I do like this but I'm realizing the lion paws kind of make the claws unwieldy.. in a typical striking arc, the lion claws would hit something backwards on the way down if even the TIP of the arm blades touched. They'd be good for stabs I guess but they are curved so

Not him but I watched both of the Japanese series earlier in the year and I found them to be quite enjoyable. BW2 picked up in the second half but the first wasn't a slog by any means. Neo is a space based series that I found to be more engaging from the get-go with both factions being genuinely interesting. The one-off characters were also really fun. If you just can't be bothered to watch ether series then go watch the BW2 movie and trade context for some tasty animation.

SS86 Gnaw is a great addition to my 1986 lineup. I wish his robot shoulders/shark hips weren't so loose, though. His fin is not very well attached either.

if the fin plugs in by friction, then your best bet for all of these problems is probably water-based polyurethane. you can get a bottle of it for pretty cheap, and some little bottles meant for henna application for even cheaper.. then you can use their thin tips to squeeze a drop right into the joint even if it's kinda deep inside the body. Then just work it for a while and sit it on your desk and work it a bit more throughout the day, or in the case of the fin, plunge it in once then take it out and let it dry. guarantee it'll be tighter next time, but it might take a few coats.

also I just realized I need to do this for the upgrade kit scimitar thing where I shaved its pegs down too far and now it's too loose after previously not fitting into shadow panther's tail.

There was Pledge Revive It, which was discontinued. (I still have a lifetime supply of one bottle.) I understand others like to use clear acrylic paint, and I have a bottle of something called Kiki on the way, it's specifically for tightening loose joints. I've heard it works pretty well. Anyway, I really like the Pledge, it can be applied with a toothpick. (I'm not sure if there's another floor polish available now that will get the same results.) As for fixing the fin, you can try brushing clear acrylic to the hole or peg, but for really loose 5mm parts I will apply a very small, thin touch of brush-on clear JB Weld to either bulk up a peg or add friction to a hole.

I'm happy for you but I don't think this looks better than the nice and cheap TR Gnaw. But maybe I'm just coping as a poorfag. Sometimes leaving superglue to dry (NEVER seen Pledge in Canada) worked out well (and apparently nail polish remover dissolves this), but be careful.

you're in canada, let me just... https://www.amazon.ca/Gloss-Polyurethane-Varnish-2-oz/dp/B00L45KP7S here. like that anon said you can use a toothpick, I like the applicator bottle but I've been using it on certain joints that are deep up inside the body in awkward places.

Go get a bottle of quickshine floor finish from lowes or where the fuck ever. Its literally liquid plastic in a bottle. add a drop to a joint, rub it in a bit (by moving the joint) and let it sit for a few hours to dry.
It doesnt damage the plastic, and if you dont like it, just rub it off when its dry.

It only adds a thin layer of stuff, still allows you to pose things, but its stiff enough to hold. If it doesnt hold, just add another drop and work it in again.

Come on people.

It's true, I think people forget how modestly proportioned the original fembots were. Arcee was the first time the artists were going for a sexy look. The rest of the fembots didn't start looking more shapely till the 90s when artists started getting hornier.
Hell, even now, Elita's recent toys and the PotP/Siege fembots still have a more prominent bustline than they did in the cartoon.

That's more just a design concept Takara made up to show the Bay team what could be workable as a toy (as the designs they were seeing were leaning very hard in "hollywood alien" and not enough in "actual physical object").

Since they're much more willing to be doing IDW designs all of a sudden, who do you think's the most likely character/design that they'll make from it next?
Personally, my bets are on either Rodimus for a retool or Autobot Megatron for a "new" mold.

but I'm sure there are some suitably sized and cheap lion toys (the kind that are just cast in two pieces with visible seam lines) and give it the ol' Face-Off. I don't have any problem with this, looks like just a cool noble lion like you'd see on some inspirational picture.
I'm more concerned with the lion head being able to get a little closer to the body

The ones in that picture are from Tricranius. I think they're the only ones Mark's been using (and shilling).
It's the last large set of blast parts they've released and the only one that doesn't require you to buy a commander or a titan.

It's not that simple, they said in the roundtable that they were always willing to make IDW toys but actually getting the go-ahead is tricky.
Tarn is only happening because the all his 3rd party toys like the upcoming Super7 made Hasbro feel like they needed to get a proper one on the shelves.

I miss the days when improved KOs were a reliable thing, now they just sorta maybe happen. I want big KOs of Earthrise Starscream. The MP-11 mold is absolute shit, the torso doesn't even clip together, ER was a far superior design yet we got it at fucking voyager scale.

Generations was taking design cues from IDW all the way up to Titans Return and even a little beyond. But it was mainly for the classic characters. IDWfags get uppity because Hasbro isn't making toys of every single OC. I've seen some complain Rung wasn't a Deluxe in Siege.

Trailbreaker/Hoist was a huge disappointment. tiny when it should've been closer to voyager size.
Bomber Megatron was a sad reminder of what could've been a great figure
Jhiaxus was appalling. A stunning lack of research on that one.
Bumblebee was pretty cheap, and making it Nightbeat after the original Jazz remold concept was spitting in our eyes
Sky-byte was a disaster. The Takara release really showed how much the budget on Hasbro's hurt an already shoddy mold
Skids was wonky
Jetfire was a cool design marred by blatant hollow wings.

Really the only things I think I liked without major criticism were Springer/Sandstorm, Rhinox(the Takara one), Rattrap, and Roadbuster.

Problem with Rung is he turns into a big piece of nothing by design. Siege reimagining him as a tool others can hold was a good idea, gives him some play value. A Deluxe or even a Core just feels like it's asking too much.

Also, the original plan for override WAS to do a g1ified version via hotrod retool.
Honestly, I'm betting they were so disappointed with Bulkhead and Knockout that they gave up on the idea for the others.

But also comparing earthrise and kingdom to legacy doesn't make sense. Several people left the team after WFC, explaining the shift in design language.

I just got the Legacy Prime bots and share virtually none of your opinions. I think they’re great. If you were complaining about their engineering I could relate, they’re far from perfect. Aesthetically they do their exact job which is become G1. They fit right in with the rest of the WFC collection. I’m not sure why you guys hate them for this.My biggest issue is what to do with Arcee regarding cannon. The other guys are OC to the G1 universe but Arcee is redundant. Actually we ended up finding out what Rung's alt mold was at the end of Lost Light: Rung's alt form is a device that can create/mass produce fully functioning Creation Matrixes/Matrix of Leadership/All Sparks.

Which again, pisses me off that they refused to connect tie Lost Light to the Unicron finale, since that would have been a major plot point in defeating Unicron had they gave a fuck.

given that this year is Armada's 20th anniversary and we're starting the armada tribute figures in legacy for this and next year, and 2024 will no doubt be a big deal since it's the 40th anniversary of g1 (be prepared for a commander class g1 megatron with a fuckton of accessories).
2025/2026 would be the most likely candidate for a TFPrime revival, given it'd be 15 years old at that point.
They MIGHT squeeze it into the winter 2023/spring 2024 product line though to line up with the 10th anniversarry of predacons rising.
2024 being commander predaking would be great IMO

Transformers PowerCore Combiner Smolder

And his little buddy Chopster

This guy is a super kooky character. Decepticon fire trucks are a rarity and Smolder has just the stock standard Decepticon personality to match.
He like rolling up to structure fires and then doing whatever he can to interfere with the rescue effort.

The matte red does a bit to help him stand out in the bad guy crowd. Those cool flaming decepti-badges help too.
Not a lot of clear plastic on his guy, just the light bar. The rest of that material was eaten by his partner.

I'll tel you what, this little guy is dense. Easily the same mass as a deluxe class toy, much to my surprise.

The increased ratio of black works very well with that little splash of white on his chest.
Shame the logos aren't on fire anymore.

Articulation is a little wonky.
Shoulders can move up an down on the transformation joint and can swivel forward and back freely.
Elbows, while double jointed, are at the exact same level as the shoulder. So there's no bicep at all.

Head can swivel, waist can't.
Hips are on universal joints and thighs are on swivels, so that's good.
The knees can bend 180 degrees but they're placed much lower than you'd think. They attach at the wheel axle when you think they might be level with the PCC peg.

Chopster can do some yoga. That clear plastic shaft had a mighty squeaky time fitting into the fist hole, so I didn't force it.

Perhaps next year or so once they get results from SS86 Rumble. Battlemasters and Targetmasters and Micromasters have failed so I doubt Hasbro is going back to that in a long time, but there's a chance Minicons can be sold in the Core class block with extra accessories to make up for the fact it is small.

Yeah they weren't well promoted and too expensive for what you get. I'd argue though another factor is their terrible design. The Targetmasters and Battlemasters I'll give a pass though the Targetmasters for some reason is unbalanced, 4 out of 6 Decepticon Targermasters get a general release while the 2 others are locked behind exclusive sets. And there was only 1 Autobot Targermaster, Firebolt.

Micromasters is where I have a problem with, yeah for fans of the original Micromaster toyline they got the updated figures they wanted. But let's be real here Micromasters in general are boring if you don't bother looking up their bios like a certain anon here. They turn into stylized but normal vehicle modes and they transform in 1 or 2 steps, yay that's all you get. Because of that Hasbro gave them weapon modes and so far I can only think of 2 groups that had the best weapon modes, the Battle Patrol and the Air Strike Patrol. The rest are hot garbage in terms of weapons. Minicons solved all that issue by having alt-modes that are unique, out there and unique transformations that wasn't just flip over and unfold limbs, most of them that is. And they can become Targetmasters too and have unique weapon modes all on their own as well. And of course they combine with the bigger bots giving them more purpose than Micromasters who just just stand around.

I think that Minicons is more marketable because of all the changes they made to separate themselves from the Micromasters. Only time will tell if it'll ever succeed though because prices are assrape in general.

Hate to post a toy review here but I wonder if this guy is right about the plastic quality taking a nosedive in Legacy. I don't have many Transformers from the last 4 years so I can't really comment. I have been hearing this argument about plastic quality since the Prime Wars trilogy though. I only know that Earthrise Starscream does look more substantial in jet mode than Legacy Starscream, but they weight within 0.04 lbs of each other. Is this guy just overreacting?

From what I have seen of Legacy Starscream, I am more annoyed that he doesn't have a single minicon port (and Bulkhead does???) and no wrist swivels. The lack of leg paint is also annoying but I don't expect paint from Hasbro.

The "boring" vehicle modes are part of the appeal of Micromasters, sometimes I just want a nice looking car with a simple transformation. The WFC Micromasters failed because, simply put, they're just not a big upgrade over the originals from 35 years ago. The ball joints mean nothing when the limbs don't have clearance to do more than swivel up and down and the lack of heels means most can't even stand.
In any case, there's no point to making a whole line of minicons if only a few toys have minicon ports.

What are your thoughts on the Commandrons? They were transforming robots from Tomy that were Happy Meal toys in 1985 and had pull-back mechanisms which allowed them to roll forward in car mode and mechanically walk in robot mode. Since then, the Commandrons have been worked into official Transformers canon.

the colours aren't inverted. The jet is still blue and the tank is still red, they just inverted the combined form since its a simple recolour.
I suppose the tank is missing its gold from the cassete form but thats it really.

funnily enough I got him recently and really enjoy the look of him.
Did they do another run where they fixed the leg issues on him? mine has the tight ankle joint so I have to loosen the screw in his foot but I've heard complaints about the shin panels breaking easily, mine seem ok so far.

The actual Star Convoy is a revived Optimus Prime, though he is unusually big, he's the same size as Grandus.

they haven't done a full-on scorpion-to-shovel thing, just a scorponokish robot mode. plus it'd be nice switching it from front to rear, and I was thinking one of the hydraulic pistons would slide down to give the tail another joint or two (but lock it into place in shovelmachine mode)
plus this isn't a normal boring shovelmachine, it's a tank!!
I would also dig a more normal tank that turned into a lizard, with the gun as the tail.

Anyone have tips on how to deal with pegs that are too big? I got a number of weapons recently (ssbb Soundwave and Jhiaxus red blaster) but the pegs seem too thick. I've heard of sanding them down but I'd rather find some way to wear it down.

that's a good-ass question. I hate peg incompatibilities, they aren't common but they're a piss when they do. couldn't do a lot of the Transmutate combinations I wanted to because some pegs were too loose in some holes.

thiis close, not sure how accurate it is to the source material but I think they could have done better with the lions head either by detatching the main so it kinda seats on his right peck like a vest and the actual lions head can be more in line with shoulder proportion, or made it break apart into more parts to run down the arm

as is, when zoomed out a bit it looks like a lion doing a running leap right behind him

I think a natural consequence of needing to account for TT and other non-us regions when planning is that the price can't balloon out too much. There's also no money going to the Mouse like with Marvel/Star Wars which I'm sure makes a significant difference

We have been over this before. Hasbro's information on the tf customer base is incredibly poor in that they never invested much in the way of researching and counting the number of tf consumers or their demographics or country of origin. So they don't have a very good clue of what fans want and thus they consistently underproduce shit that could easily sell out in fear of having leftover stock. It's less "artifical scarcity" and more just underproduction because they aren't sure if it will sell because their information on the customer base to determine overall demand isn't very good.

which is where you have warden believing for more than 4 years that fans hated BW and JG1 was totally popular until Primal won that poll.
