It's why i called what Star Trek and Star Wars do as "science." Almost nothing they invented to tell their stories is based on any facts, just made up bullshit.
People like to harp on Star Wars being fantasy more because a lot of its ideas are based on sci fi from the early 1900s, where shit was even more speculative and incorrect, but sci fi from the 1800s and 1900s is still sci fi nonetheless. Just more known to be stupid bullshit.
Whereas Star Trek is modern(ish) sci fi, so what they bullshit on is less known to be made up bullshit, especially when they use complicated sciencey words that audience doesn't know that might as well be "abrakadabra"
All things being equal, stupid bullshit is stupid bullshit, regardless of how old or new it is.
If you're an ESL: using quotation marks around a word calls into question the validity of the word.

Like with most science shit, it just takes decades for those ideas to actually be used.
