How would you broadly describe it?

I've been daydreaming about two action lines lately. One would be heavily inspired by MOTU, with a bunch of gimmicky characters with silly names going at each other in a fantasy/sci-fi world. The other is a mix of Slizer/Throwbots and the early years of Bionicle, with robots of various shapes inhabiting a planet as dark and mysterious as Mata Nui felt back in the day.

While I absolutely love the JoyToy and McFarlane Warhammer 40k figures, they aren't toys. They're effectively just poseable figures that can't be played with whatsoever.

If I were going to make an actual toy line, it would be like the old GI Joes from the 90s but with 40k units.

My dream toyline for years would be an absolutely massive StarCraft toyline, on the scale of GI Joe or Masters of the Universe- scale like the amount of playsets and vehicles and figures, not scale like size of the figures with a focus on playability and functionality.
Figures would be chunky 4 inch ish things and each race would get multiple gigantic playsets of their more iconic buildings. For example Terrans (for those not in the know on StarCraft Terrans are the human faction) would have a Command Center Building that could open up and had a command area with some light up computer screens and a holo table on one side, and the other side would have an area where SCVs could return minerals to a conveyer belt kind of like the old Lego Aquazone underwater base playset. Then I'd have a separate barracks playset with things like a big weapons rack and a central area similar to iron man's gentry where you could suit up and included human figure into his marine power suit.
All vehicles would have removable pilots.
Zerg, the bug like alien race, would have features like sticky parts and various slime functions.
Protoss would have lots of light up functions and maybe some kind of elaborate hologram tech in some of the playsets for "warp in" effects.
If I ever become a billionaire I'm making this toyline with minor changes to avoid legal troubles.

Funnily it already existed for me, literally, Mega Construx Call of Duty was my favorite, perfect size to amass a huge army with tons of vehicles, customizeability with just part swapping and great details for the size. The line already has so much shit, I would just continue with random soldiers, move away from brick built vehicles to release them as regular, 1/35 vehicles and release a shit ton of dio accessories, up to buildings in that scale.

Figures will be based on " knoe trends". What's a toy you want of but it just won't exist? We'll make toys based on that. We'll throw in some monsters too. The point of the line is that it works with whatever toyline you already have. Similar to the Fortnite lines.

The figures won't come with accessories and will be sold separately, this way you won't have to army-build a figure that wasn't meant for it just for a gun you lost.

The figures will be modular too. Maybe like figma/revoltech or the Sonic toys

I’ve been thinking about a toy line for a long time. Finally, this year, I just decided to do it. Been working on it for almost a full year and the prototypes are almost done. The plan is to have it up on Kickstarter in the beginning of next year.

I really hope it succeeds. It’d mean a lot to me and basically change my life. But even if it doesn’t fund, I’ll still be happy I went for it. The real failure would be not even trying.

Been thinking that, if I ever wanted to produce a girl toyline, I would make it about dragons, or rather dragonesses, going on magical adventures (MLP or LEGO Elf style) with young humans the kids could self-insert into. The dragon figures could either stand on two or four legs and would come in different shapes and sizes, from slim to chubby or even having multiple heads.

That sounds like a great way to corrupt the next generations to scalyfaggotry, but better that than they become furfaggots.

Each pantheon would get a playset/diorama (think the Neca Street Scene) that would be the home/monarchal court room of their respective pantheon. Such as Mount Olympus for the Greek Pantheon, Asgard for the Norse, etc.

Preferably I would like the toys themselves to be made by a Japanese company because I don't like the look of Marvel Legends joints with those peg holes on the elbow. I prefer the approach to Figma/Revoltech's/SHF/Mafex to designing joints over whatever the hell Hasbro's doing with their Marvel figures.

If I were an eccentric billionaire this technically wouldn't matter for me but let's discuss price. I wouldn't want individual figures in the line to cost 200+ dollars. Yet at the same time I wouldn't want them to be made out of cheap plastics either.

A complete Berserk toyline.
Not just Guts, Griffith, Casca and the Godhand.
Snake Baron. Koka thugs with a tavern diorama. Zondark with interchangeable pieces to cover his mutation. Army builders packs with extra interchangeable parts to make them as unique as Miura did.
Make each wave focus on just one arc. No front loading the waves with heavy hitters.
And no pussying out. Rape Horse would be anatomically correct. Villagers with trolls bursting out of their chests. Cunny moth demon. Self flagellation Farnese. Mozgus with torture chamber playset.
The only thing I am unsure about is scale. 1:18 would have the advantage of making army building practical, especially with all of the mounted knight's, but many of the details of Miura's art would get lost. On the other hand, 1:12 would make figures like Zodd and Grunbeld in their apostle forms stupidly huge.

Idk if this is my dream toy line but I’ve always thought if they had a line like Funko Pops where they have figures from from some many different IPs it would be cool if they just made them like basic little figurines instead of bobble heads make them all the same size but gives people an inexpensive way to represent stuff they like and if there’s one of some character you like that they don’t make in other lines you can get a basic figurine/statuette that resembles that character instead of some dumb looking bobble head you can keep them all true to their source material like if it’s cartoon Link from wind waker or something keep it looking like that if it’s Luke Skywalker from return of the Jedi keep it in that realistic style but they would all roughly be the same size and price same material as a funko pop

Assuming David Silva doesn’t tackle it as a part of his upcoming ‘Beasts of the Cenozoic’ line for next year, I’d like to make detailed 1:12 scale collector figures of human ancestral species from the australopithecines to early Homo sapiens. Ideally I’d want Japanese-style joint systems such as Figma or Figuarts, but keeping retail costs low enough that the price tag isn’t as huge of a deterrent to consumers. Adult males’ balls and cock would be visible but more like a bulge with faint tracings of the dick in the sculpt, adult females’ crotch would have a slight crease of labia but also no very pronounced, the juvenile would have a blank crotch like modern western action figures with neither a bulge or slit, and the clothing-wearing groups would have cast-off flexible plastic for the clothes.

There would also be a bonus wave of notable specimens recreated like Lucy, the elder Neanderthal man who had major arthritis in his spine that affected his posture, Tong Child, etc. These would each include a 1:12 articulated fossil skeleton of the specimen showing the specimen’s known bones painted while the rest of the reconstructed skeleton is clear plastic.

This is the correct answer. Better to make it an original IP then have to rely on Blizzard not being morons with their licensing. Besides, Starcraft is already generic enough it wouldn't be hard to modify the designs into "original" characters.

Can we have any details about the line? i.e. is it action figures or puzzle game/building blocks etc? I'm always up for a good Kickstarter toyline, as many of them have pumped out some of my favorite figures.

As for stuff I'd like to make, I've always had two big ideas in my head.

The first idea is a modular action figure building system, similar to Marvel Mash-ups. It would be based around connectable "skeleton" pieces that would then be covered by "skin" like panels so the final figure wouldn't actually look like it was made from modular pieces. All the parts would be entirely interchangable so you could make the set on the box or mix and match and combine sets to make all sorts of crazy creations.

To add a bit more freedom to the builds, the actual characters and such you could build would all be based on mythical "Monsters" like Ogres, Griffons, Minotaurs and such, each with unique heads and accessories. Being monsters, with fur and scale and shells and even exposed bones, you could make pretty much whatever you wanted and it would still look good.

The sets would be sold in different sizes, ranging from small "scout" monsters, to multi-figure building packs to the giant "Legendary Dragon" sets, featuring large part counts, unique pieces and resulting in massive articulated Dragons. The world would be based around three factions in a Rock/Paper/Scissor style balance, with each one getting it's own themes, lore and a Dragon to rule each faction.

My other idea is a 1:18 line of fantasy-ish WWII style, diesel punk figures and vehicles. The individual named figures themselves would all come with standard 1:18 articulation and extra gear(alt heads/helmest/webgear) to turn them into basic troops. But the real meat of the line would be the vehicles, which would mostly be modular armored transports and tanks.

The basic idea is you'd buy a vehicle (which would include at least one figure), and assemble it yourself like classic G.I. Joe vehicles. That means putting on the wheel trundles, connecting the main hull to the chasis, inserting the engine block, control panels and seating, connecting the turrets and then adding smaller details like extra guns or storage packs or armor plates. Parts from different Tank sets or even "deluxe" figure sets would be able to mix and match between vehicles, most tanks would be able to fit crews of 3-5 figures and there would be different factions with different styles and themes to collect and build.

Of course there would be the massive centerpiece playset releases...all of which would be giant mobile bases like a huge armored train or a giant mult-treaded land crawler. All of which will contain parts and pieces that could work with smaller individual sets as well. But the main focus of the line would be for kids and collectors to make their own unique tanks and tank crews, complete with quasi decal sheets to make your own logos and the like.

I had this idea for a few years, and originally I was going to sculpt it myself. I’m more of a traditional sculptor though, and early on I realized this whole process would be easier if the figure were done in a 3D program.

As I saved up some money, I began looking for 3D sculptors. That basically consisted of going through a lot of online portfolios and back and forth messaging with a lot of different artists. It took about a year before I found the one I’m using now.

The sculpting process also takes time. There’s a lot of back and forth on what I want vs what’s possible articulation wise. Also what looks good compared to what is functional. This took another year. I’m not the sculptors only client though, so it probably would’ve been only 3-6 months if I were.

Now we’re at the point where they’re being printed. I should have the three prototypes by December. I’ll paint them up and hopefully have the Kickstarter up by Feb/March. I’m also currently shopping for a manufacturer, so depending on how that goes, the date may be pushed back a bit.

Not sure how much I want to say since I haven’t officially announced it yet. It will be a non-human action figure. I wanted him to be able to fit in with six and seven inch figures on any shelf, so it’ll be in that 1/12 scale range.

This reminds me of another idea I had for what was originally a Miniature Wargame concept but could work as a 1/18 scale toyline as well. Basically it would be mythology themed as well but with the edition of regular human soldiers/warriors from IRL historical cultures and civilizations with mythical creatures as units as well. Such as the following units: >Centaur Cavalry for Alexander the Great's Empire. As well as Gorgons, Cyclopses, Pegasi, and Hoplites.

1:18 military line. Focusing on infantry and infantry vehicles. I love the ultimate soldier line, so it inspired me. Heavy focus on multinational armies and specific units for those people with specific interests. Cover multiple eras and wars. Hit niches like the American Revolution and the Franco-Prussian war. Goal would to hit a proper balance of collectability and playability. It’d be great for displays and great for people who want to play with them, like kids. It’d be a good jumping off point for learning about military history. That and by god, I want non custom figures. Pain in the ass putting together an Imperial German or a Union soldier in 1:18

I will say, a lot of the preparations costs will depend on how much you can accomplish yourself. My partner is a professional artist, so she was able to draw and paint the initial concept designs and turnaround pics. She’ll also be handling the box design. I’m handling most of the prototype painting and photography. This saved us a nice chunk of money.

If you’re looking for a 3D sculptor in the US, it’ll probably range between 4 to 10 thousand dollars. This will depend on how much they’ll be sculpting, how complicated it is, and how many revisions they’ll need to do. Our sculptor is also printing out the pieces for us, so there’s an additional charge for material there.

Sculpting is probably the most expensive part of the early steps. There are some free 3D sculpting programs out there if you want to learn it yourself though.

A themed packaging related to the respective era and nation. Standard plastic on cardboard with the figure displayed. It would include the figure, the appropriate kit, and a base. The back would give a short summary about the figure and the time period. Nothing fancy. Would do 2 packs as well. Say, an Imperial German and a French soldier, a Confederate soldier and a Union soldier, etcetera

My idea is very similar, but broken down by era. So you’d have AmRev, Civil War, Colonial and Antebellum. (I also had an idea for WWI, Pirates and other world history figs like Ages of Action) Would your figs be like 21st century with removable arms and heads or more like gi Joe, Unimax etc with none, or like JoyToy/Marauder/Valverse with maybe one or two interchangeable parts

There's a few lines I've wanted to do, but one I've played around with is a toyline based on Public Domain superheroes inspired by 90's superhero toylines, especially Kenner BTAS.
I wanted a line that could be done for cheap, so 2-3 bucks that could be reused.
PD heroes means no licensing, have some basic appeal, but not designs that are super sacred as to be unalterable. Some room for fun reinterpretations of powers.
Ideally basic figures could be sold for $3-5(the price TNBA toys were at BigLots in the 2000s), but if they could be $1.25 toys like Final Faction that'd be even better. Armored up/accessories versions would ideally be under $10, too.

Mix figures in each line. 1 for each included war. So, say, The American Revolution, American Civil War, Franco Prussian War, First World War, Russian Civil War, World War 2, The Korean War, the Vietnam war, not exactly what I would choose but just a short list. 1 wave would have 1 figure from each of those wars. Wave 2 would have another side from that war. Between wave 2 and 3 there would be a 2 pack. By wave 3, depending on the war, it’ll be switched out for another one. So after 2 waves, the American Revolution, Franco Prussian War, American Civil War, and Russian Civil War would be phased out as in those conflicts there are 2 majorly recognizable sides. Every 5 waves, there’ll be a reissue of older figures

I intended to draw your entire line up but I eventually got too busy to finish the rest. After seeing your concept piece I'm tempted to draw them all again though, or atleast, my interpretations. I love what you did with black terror and black bat btw. If the line were to go into production you'd have to rename some of the heroes for sure. Partially for copyright reasons and partially because of some names being too close together.
Most of my designs were based off particular batmen variants, with this dan garrett blue beetle being based off the batman forever "laser batman"

Stardust is a bit of a departure since I based him off the toybiz AOA iceman. As an actual figure I imagine he'd share the same body and legs as the rest of the heroes. His arms, head, crystals, and belt would all be separate pieces cast in translucent yellow plastic. The crystals would port onto his back.

I also had in mind Cold War, Victorian era (including Franco-Prussian), and largest of all: Pirates and World War I (which includes a massive Russian Civil War line.) got it all outlined but lack funds to start (and unsure which like to begin with, as pirates and WWI would sell the best but I like Am Rev more and know where to sell them)

there are actually two seperate catmen in the public domain. there's the orange american one and his green australian successor. personally Im more of a fan of the australian one simply for how madcap he is by comparison to his american counterpart. for starters he actually has a base of his own, often referred to as his "mountain stronghold", presenting cat mountain.

I doodled some ideas for a stardust astral observatory on the same page. it's appearance in the comics often changes (sometimes depicted as a castle in the clouds and other times as a space ship) I went ahead and just made it into a good guy deathstar/technodrome. If you notice, I ended up drawing some black bat sketches on the bottom. I really liked what you did with him and leaned into making him "more batman than batman". there's additionally some wolverine and devilman influence there too.

My worry is marketing. I know I could sell them at Faneuil Hall or other landmarks like battlefields, but online, I feel like people who are interested in the age of black powder want to replicate the mass formations of the era, which is easier with smaller figures rather than 1:18.

So the line would start with 'kangaroo tail draggers', fantasia dinos, then Dino Renaissance, to 90s jurassic park influence to today's big killer birds.

I'd barrow heavily from paleo artists like knight, and that one soviet artist people where talking about not long ago.

The early lines (the early depictions) would b thick rubber and I guess get more articulation as the eras go on.

That’s how I was with one of my other ideas years ago. I’ll need to find the notes, but it was designed around combining realistic historical soldiers with fantasy creatures. Actual Knight orders and royal houses, Vikingar raiding parties, Roman Legions, down to the damn rivet. It was meant to go with a specific monster of that time period. So say, a nearly complete accurate Templar of Norman paired up with a dragon, of which would be inspired by that region. I’ve noticed a trend that my history based autism flows freely
