Ignoring the hell on earth backorder status I've had every pre-order for new items missed by HLJ this year, most of them made on the day the pre-orders went live. Email response was "we were unable to meet demand for stock" which is a blatant lie.

The idea is you can save a little on shipping.
Say a toy you want comes out in April, and another comes out in May. HLJ will hold the first one for you and ship both in the same package.
The problem is that HLJ removed the time limit for holding whilst no one was shipping due to covid and some people are still refusing to ship even now.

I compared DHL east coast price of amiami and HLJ for shipping Tapigal gal and it was 2858 vs 4190, comparatively. It's why I have no HLJ orders(they've actually been sending me emails with like a 10% coupon or something begging me to come back).

Usually it's at least a month or two. What HLJ needs to do is stop accepting any new Warehouse orders for anyone who hasn't shipped their shit, until they ship their shit. Or hell, stop accepting orders from those people, period.

Give them the ultimatum: ship it within a month or you lose it. No refunds. A year is well outside any credit card's protection, and if HLJ provides notice that you were duly informed that any products not shipped would be forfeited, you can't even sue them.

But HLJ won't because they're pussies. They're too afraid of losing the bad customers they already can't get rid of.

So I had pre ordered the reissues of Mafex Billy Butcher and Homelander. I set my payment currency to Yen since it's so cheap right now and left the orders alone. Well I'm going through my pre orders and notice that my HLJ orders are now in USD. They originally were set to 8500 yen, making them about $57 currently, where HLJ is now charging $70 each. I said fuck that and cancelled. I'm really surprised they did that and I'm pretty pissed to be honest. That's kinda fucked up.

I don't know what you're buying but on Amiami have the lowest shipping prices out of all the major stores due to their mafia deal with Japan Post and DHL. They are strict with combining orders but as long as you do it within the same month it's generally ok.

I've no loyalty, I'll go for whichever store has cheaper prices and reasonable shipping. Since covid and most shipping methods went down, the best option, regardless of price, became HLJ, so they're who I've been sticking with. Once SAL is back and I don't have to worry about the service randomly dropping again, I'll once again pick whichever has the best prices.

Though, the paltry difference of a few yen doesn't really compare to the ability to ship items together over different months, so that also factors into things.

I used it last time they did this to return a figure I didn't want anymore and get some stuff shipped out. For certain cases it's a good deal. Espcially if you don't want something anymore.

I think I've done it once, and no tax. But it was also a pretty small Gashapon filled package. Never been taxed from SAL, so that will always be my go to. I've done EMS a couple times and no Duties or Tax. DHL once, nothing. Fedex, every time.

So what my strategy was was to split up shipping things where it made sense, like some model kits, and some expensive items (where possible) together, when adding those expensive items don't increase the cost, or actually lower it sometimes (still not sure why their system would ever conclude something like that). When it's just model kits you're basically paying the same amount in shipping as the model kits cost, so adding those pricier items gives me some semblance of value or worth to the whole thing. Did that a bit and now my PW is down to a single item that I may just want refunded because I think the series ended.

Basically there's two tiers - regular mail, and courier (including EMS). Couriers declare differently, and every time, so anything that hits the $75 limit gets GST/HST (note this is not duty, even though people lump it in and call it duty). Some will charge brokerage fees on top for doing the paperwork. But regular mail (SAL, Royal Mail, USPS or whatever) can sometimes get to $300+ and not get any taxes, and sometimes they'll get it right away. Basically couriers always will at $75+, regular mail sometimes will, the threshold for each is different. I don't know why it works this way, I don't think anyone knows why it works this way, and it isn't supposed to work this way, but I've imported tens of thousands of dollars of stuff into Canada over the last 10 years and that's how it works.

I was going through the loss of a loved one and having health complications from COVID. So a lot of financial difficulties. HLJ being so patient with me was a godsend.

I had actually intended to ship things much sooner but shit happened. In the end I got everything shipped out and now there is only a few things in the warehouse. These bad apples are going to fucking ruin this for everyone who actually needs to take advantage of unlimited storage.
