Lego is a perfect medium to create actual play areas and dungeons for a d&d game, they did a very very light version with that Ninjago wave, however I can guarantee they will make some statue/display shit

Can someone give me a quick rundown on Dungeons and Dragons so I can make something? I wanna do microfigure scale. Basically it's a turned based game, and there is a dungeon master who sets the world/traps/monsters/treasure for the players? Yes. However the main aspect is imagination, both that of players and that of DM who does all the worldbuilding.

So my idea is like DnD modules. 2x2 Round are tables, 1x2 are chests, 1x1 round are barells. Maybe add a treasure on top to denote that there is loot inside. 1x1 studs are coins. You move stud by stud and module your world. Would still need pencil and paper for some stuff.

Not to mention that it's just a dragon. I understand that with Dungeons and DRAGONS, an expectation is sort of baked into the name, but with Ninjago churning out cool-ass dragon after cool-ass dragon each year, it's hard to get excited for the possibility of a rare crossover resulting in just... another dragon.

Soulless. Lego is a boutique statue company with an assembly gimmick. They aren't interested in playsets and certainly not anything that requires anything more than raw intuition to interact with. The only way this kind of modular system would work as a valid lego product is with app-integration, and that in itself already disqualifies it from valid prodict status. Even in its elementary "idea" stage its difficult to see how this item would be improved and decorated, and later promoted to a lego audience so they understand it and actually want it. There is just no market for a lego version of a game they won't want to engage at length towards, with friends they don't have. Sorry bro, makes a cute moc though.

Oh sure I understand. I thought there might have been an instance where a promo photo had touch up paint or something. That's much more mundane but definitely an oversight contemporary lego would have. That does beg the question though, would classic lego even care or were their supply and durability expectations just different? It seems Lego's lacquer era was most prominent when they made toys that were actually supposed to be touched, and people didn't have the same obsessive standards.

Absolutely the case. I worked through an ad prepro/pro company with a lot of chinese clients and our motto was "when in doubt, make it ugly." Saturated red, yellow, and gold were always the straw dog options, but they also really liked orange/purple, mint/white, and fucking green/yellow. Half my comps were just the mandarin copy with an ugly stroke, and the most hideous saturated color scheme I could stomach. It was fun for a time but also incredibly fatiguing so I'm glad to be involved with something more nuanced now.

I'm pretty sure this is the 3rd time but I'm not 100%.
It was originally going to end after Season 2 and it's common knowledge it murdered Chima when it returned. Then it was going to end after Season 7, prior to the movie. The expectation was that the movie would do well and serve as the start of a Ninjago cinema reboot. Movie didn't do well, but the sets did, so rather than reboot into movies, they greenlit season 8 and upped the budget. Based on the timing, Nexo Knights was the intended replacement (I guess they brought it in a year early so that it didn't suffer the same fate as Chima).
The current season, Crystalised seems to have been intended by the showrunners to be the grand finale of the show, but the show is still doing good viewers wise and the sets are still selling as well as ever so obviously Lego wants to keep it going. Showrunners want their lives back so they're throwing in the towel.
Apparently we're at the end of the "original saga" and next year isn't a reboot but they've been focusing on a pair of kids who orbit the ninjas a lot so maybe it'll be a generational thing. There's also a whole subplot in the current season about "new ninjas", which might be a hint, but they're played as a joke (two of them have different shades of pink, both dudes).
Frankly, having bought a bunch of Ninjago shit and watched the show with my kid, I can see why it's so enduring. The amount and variety of small sets probably helps too; something that would be nice to see in other themes, especially Icons and Ideas.

Pretty generic so far but that's good when you're just putting down the bones. Seems like it'd be pretty fun for kids if I had any. Building the board on top of a set or moc is a cute idea with a lot of potential. You might not get a lot of constructive game theorycraft here but you should keep thinking about it if you like it, and maybe make a demo board for a photo when you nail down your vision more.

I have a question.

These breastplate pieces, I could have sworn they were more common, but for whatever reason they are fairly expensive on Bricklink in any metal-ish color...but a BUNCH of people are selling a tan version for dirt cheap.

It's a fraction of the price of the grey/silver ones, but I can't find any mention of them anywhere. Where did these even come from?

they don't, but they do sometimes have a build a minifig station with loose pieces. and PAB online has minifig parts.

there is a seller "bunte-steine.de" who has the majority (~2000) of the ones available on bricklink, listed at different prices, and there are a handful of other sellers with 100+ of that piece. the bunte seller page says they specialize in 'classic colors and rare parts/colors' so maybe you can contact them or some other seller and see if you can find out any information on where they came from. they're a very established store with like 80k listings so I assume they aren't selling fakes. that being said, as we've seen recently there is a lot of weirdness when you dig deep enough on BL.

The actual sets are some of the ugliest vehicles Lego has ever made, I mean compare the Atlantis stuff that came right before it, it's leagues better. Even third-rate vehicle lines like Power Miners absolutely mog Chima's janky, vaguely animal-shaped abominations (though to be fair Power Miner's issue is 80% color scheme).

I watched a few episodes of Chima and it was pretty decent. I bought more figures and sets than I actually watched episode tho. Also I think this is a Chima cape that I used on the Boba Fett I just got since it did not come with a cape. Comparing it with the new Boba his older helmet just looks "right".

I think it might be the 4th, I count "March of the Oni" as a soft finale and the fire and ice chapter as a soft reboot. Because there's lot of changes, the hageman brothers stepped down as main writers, the show changed animation studios and style, the tone became lighter (literally nobody dies ever, not in the "high stakes" finale) and became more consistent, like I hated when earlier Ninjago dropped characters and plot points for no reason after they were done with them.

2013 was the most Kino wave here are the sets I think were decent

2015 I didn't really like as much desu I feel like it focused to heavily on season 1 characters, and not a fan of their builds getting ruined by flames all over theme, I didn't like the tiger or phoenix builds much something about them screamed meh to me. The only sets I truly liked were the ones based on the Ice Zombies
>Sir Fangar's Walker pretty decent in the front, but looks halfbaked in the back
>Mammoth Stomper was pretty amazing
>Sir Fangar's Ice Fortress looked like a cool base and reminded me a lot of the Lion Temple
Then of course you have the Bionicle action figure line which I honestly did not like since I felt like they strayed too far from the Original designs lf the Minifigures especially with the head piece
You have the Legend beast line which was honestly underwhelming. I know people like these sets because they are cheap but my god they look hideous with those face prints on blocky shapes. I was never a fan of speedors because It looks like it was diffcult to get the arena to work, but the molds are cool

It addresses what you said about Lego being the perfect medium for actual dungeoneering and role playing.

For example the standard pirate build in pic related would have a D6 sword and a pistol that hits for (D4 +1) but if it Crit fails, it blows up in your hand and hurts you.

Go on facebook marketplace. There are tons of moms selling their kid's collections while they're at college for pennies on the dollar. I'm talking 50lb bulk bins for $20 - entire built collections for $60-100. Just be patient, wait for a good deal where you can tell they're selling for space/time not money, and then lowball the shit out of them. Not only can you build a lego collection frugally, and depending on your location and interest level you can even break even or pull a profit. I usually try to break even but technically my lego account is up a few hundred bucks, which means I got a free lego collection and a $300 tip for playing the facebook game. Vehicle sets are some of the worst. The airplane, the monster truck, the submarine. The more visually interesting ones (Castle, lighthouse, shrimp shack, school bus) get marked up a bit by secondhand folks. Doesn't help as well that the second wave was pulled from shelves early, so some of the last few sets had very brief availability (and why I'm still upset I never got the castle)

Try actual yard sales and flea markets. Leaving your room is not that scary. Goodwill is another good place but keep in. I don’t some are run differently then others. Some locations will price to sell fast and others actually research current prices.

any good third party sellers of bootleg superhero minifigs? I was at a convention yesterday and 4 different vendors had tables loaded with bootleg xmen, lotr, and other expensive/custom minifigs (jean grey, ring wraiths, etc). They had most just out on baseplates so they have to be bootlegs but I am not sure where to buy these without paying reseller markups.$30 for a Rogue X-men minifig is a bit much.

Any ideas for a hat/helmet for this guy?
Torso is from a Jurassic World guy with the security badge removed (photoshop for now, going to use acetone or something when the actual pieces get here) and the legs are from a City volcano researcher.
Thought it looked surprisingly military for official Lego parts, up there with the Russians and Nazis from the old Indiana Jones sets

Right now I think having 7 on a stat means you get a +1 to your roll on that action

just to throw another option into the pot (ha), they could also try suspending the pans off bars and clips from above to get more of a hanging look. Two clips on either side of the pan either front/back or left/right would be pretty accurate to the reference photo. One side would actually clip into the pan handle and the other would be for effect.

The reason that Monkie Kid manages to exist alongside Ninjago are down to two things that Nexo, Chima and Boncle weren't:
a) it's targeted at a specific demographic and doing well at it
b) it's actually good

I know people have shat on Ninjago for lasting as long as it did, and "cannibalising" other themes. But to me, Ninjago earned it's success. Outside of a few times, it's never felt phoned in. As many original themes lose momentum and sales, Ninjago is still going strong 12 years later.

I agree. I completely ignored it in its entirety up until a couple months ago. Watching vintage set reviews, it's improved over time, but it was never shit.
And frankly City is the bigger theme cannibal.
As for the Power Rangers thing that that other anon said; I think he's right. Sentai may be Japanese, but aside from a couple of the seasons being "ninja force" or some shit, it's not got any weeb elements to it at all. Even the Japanese motifs etc are lost in the noise when it becomes Power Rangers.

It's simple, but it uses more parts from the set making it feel authentic. However, it would be a pain to get a minifig in and out without taking pieces off.

I am literally looking right now at the PS1 I bought last year at a Goodwill, with controller, power cable, and memory card, for $10. Elsewhere I have a PS2 I got for $15 with a controller and all cables, and a Gamecube plus controller that was $20 on FB marketplace. Haven't seen an N64 at a thrift store yet but I regularly find N64 games for $3-5 bucks apiece, assume the consoles aren't there with them because the guys who show up at 7am and dig through the bins as they stock take all of them.
You sound like someone who's only ever bought things off eBay and has never properly tried to look for anything locally because you don't have the attention span to not get what you want immediately.

I've been buying/selling video games (among other things) since ebay was auctionweb, both online and in person.
of course things happen, I've found great shit at thrifts for unbelievable prices too, but your argument is retarded, it isn't 2010 anymore things don't cost what they used to, especially now with video games, where a lot of people who were kids are now grown and trying to buy the things they used to have/always wanted. there are thousands of sold listings on ebay that corroborate that.
ebay prices or not, that is what the market looks like minus maybe 10-15% for a good find on something like marketplace. just because you see a loose Madden 2000 or whatever for $3 doesn't mean that's what n64 games cost.

I like it. The only thing that bugs me about Spyrius was the color inconsistency. Both Recon Robot and Robo Guardian used trans red for glass, but everything else used trans dark blue. It might be the only space theme that fumbled on this.

On second glance, it's worse than I thought. The 2 robots also used trans neon green accents, which is entireley absent from Saucer Scout, the base, and only appears as 2 pieces in Saucer Centurion. Just, why? It's like there were 2 different design teams.

Even with other projects in the chute, It makes me want to moc up the whole line with consistency, but the 3 trans colors were used so inconsistently across guns, antennae, canopies, thrusters, accents etc, it's hard to even get a firm grip on the right motif.

More functional than fun, but I like to fill small hidden interior gaps with round studs instead of plates. A basic example, two round studs can replace an interior 1x2 plate, or more advanced you can do things like replace two stacked 2x2 plates with two stacked round studs placed in the center of the 2x2 space like a tiny column. Since you'll never see them they can be whatever color is cheapest, although it is cool when a stud layer peeks out as a little detail. They are extremely cheap because they come in a million colors and are painfully common, esp in Friends varieties. I get mine from local bins but I imagine you could set yourself up to use this technique for the rest of your life for a few bucks on bricklink.

Pic related is the only marginal example I have photos of. About a third of the hidden interior here is studs. On the left you would see the exposed sides of a few studs under the white angled plate to look kind of like an intake if the lighting was appropriate. The bottom of the model has some overt stacked-stud detailing which is another technique you could have fun with if you cached up on studs.

I really like the thing City does of having the robbers paint eye masks on their service vehicles when they're gonna do a crime; they did the same thing with the Ice Cream guys. It's really stupid but I find it really charming.
