I should not be giving Hasbro ideas for how to save Haslab, but if they want an easy win that is not Transformers or GI Joe, they should do a 1/12 Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters. Fans want it, retailers don't want to carry it, and if it had all the requisite flashing lights and sound effects and came with a figure or two, they could probably get away with charging their magic $300 price for it.

It's pretty funny how people balked at Mattycollector's $215 attempt on the basis of it being overpriced (didn't even reach 50% funded), and now those same people would probably pay twice that for a Haslab version. Really stupid move everyone who didn't support the Mattycollector attempt when they had the chance.

The problem was the Mattel Ghostbusters were barely available outside of Matty collector,and for the time they were overpriced and dated even for back then. For all of Hasbro's failings they at least made the core Ghostbusters easy to get.

I don't think a new one would get much finding anymore, though. The fandom is pretty much done with toys by now. I think anyone that was going to buy it already got the Blitzway 1/6. how many times do a bunch of 38+ year olds want to rebuy the same Ghostbusters? Space is limited, a lot of people who buy toys don't upgrade every few years. Burnout with certain franchises is real.

Mattycollector was bad at advertising. Most people didn't even know about those mego style real ghostbusters until they showed up at TJMaxx for $5 each

I didn't support it because their idea of a prototype was a cardboard cut-out of a photo of the real car in it's current state (at the time). I wasn't going to drop that much money on something I couldn't see, especially since the trend for Ectomobile merchandise at the time was to make every Ectomobile a hybrid of the E1 and 1A.

They were bad at making expensive things that didn't have critical flaws.

PKE Meter - jams and has to be taken physically apart each time.

Proton Gun - jams

Ecto Goggles - knobs don't click into position so it just functions randomly and kills the batteries within 24hrs.

Giant figures - batteries come pre-installed without a safety tab, so if you planed on keeping any in the box, enjoy wondering if and when the proton packs will start leaking battery acid.

Stay Puft - layered in cheap foam that's guaranteed to crack, rot, stick to things, and change color

That's the weird thing, they did make an Ecto-1 for the plasma collection...in 1/18th, but no busters in the scale. Like it has opening doors and interior detailing.

Seriously? The recent failed Haslab for the Ghost Rider car was smaller than the Ecto-1 you're proposing and it was $350. At the size you're suggesting, I don't see it being priced lower than $450. It's DOA at that price. I'm sure all chances for an Ecto-1 went out the window once the Ghost Rider Haslab failed. The GB line has struggled and died at retail so I doubt Hasbro has faith in this concept for a Haslab sadly.

I didn't know Matty had plans to make the Ecto 1. Though judging from that image, it doesn't look too good. The car looks... fat, as best as I can describe.

Matty wasn't asking for the money up front, you could cancel at any time if you didn't like the way it was turning out. There was zero reason to not help push it into production.

"safety tab" does shit. They'll leak eventually with or without it.

Never leave a battery in any electronic device if you want it to be in mint or in useable a shape for the future.

That argument doesn't make any sense. With the exception of Stay Puft, none of the other issues I mentioned were known until the toys were physically in people's hands. The only thing I could have "backed out" over was the toys appearance, which wasn't provided, and I'm positive they would have screwed up anyway.

Especially when you consider how unforgiving 1:6 is in terms of the details. The bigger it is, the more accurate fans expect it to be, especially to justify the heavy price tag. 1:12 has far more mainstream marketshare and yet Hasbro still hasn't taken a chance on a Plasma Series Ecto-1, while a company serving a more expensive but far more niche audience was able to deliver without issue.

Hasbro could do a 1:12 scale more mass-market friendly version. They could probably even sell it through fan retailers like BBTS and DST, but if they truly had no faith in the thing as a retail product they could at least do it on Haslab.
