I'd say it's pretty obvious, but if it needs to be explained:
1.) Makuta is turned into a generic 'big bad' instead of being the omnipresent force of evil. Also, it was far more orginial to give Makuta the avatar of a small matoran than turing him into hollywood-satan-looking megatron wannabe.
2.) Vakama abandons his team and joins forces with Makuta. Twist for the sake of twist even m.night shaman would find too retarded to use.
3.) time-magic is a 100% guaranteed way how to ruin any fictional universe and Time Trap is one representative example.
4.) also Whenua and Nuju get to do nothing

I don't get it. How you can like this version of Teridax when it was shown to be true many times that Makuta as a character works better through a proxy. This is what puts Makuta on par with Mata-nui at the first place. Shadowed One being able to permanently harm Teridax's original body without any struggle is just lazy writing just to shock but not to astonish. G2 did the same mistake when they made Ekimu a simple elder dwarf instead of a Great Spirit.
As for the Vahi - it's existence left permanent damage on the structure of the universe because it became an overpowered MacGuffin (because time powers are always overpowered) that everyone was chasing after but nobody could use properly. It makes zero sense Vakama would let the world to be destroyed rather than being ruled by Makuta, yet at the same time finds no problem with teaming up with him to get the mask.

Keypoint here is the get the mask part. Without no world ending mask in your hands you don't get to make threats or demands unless you want to fight not one but two different partes (Makuta and the Dark Hunters).

Others have already sort of said it, but 03 and 04 already reduced Makuta to a single entity that, while a shapeshifter, is still only one guy. One that got manhandled by Takanuva and frozen in protodermis after knocking himself out with his own shadowhand with a pillar. You can't blame Time Trap when Makuta was being reduced to a Saturday morning villain well before that book was written.

Is liking 2007 bipartisan? I've noticed both pro and anti-Greg posters admit that it was good shit. Granted, a lot of the legwork for that is done by the Barraki short film.
I think it's my favorite year personally, something about the designs just works. Everyone has a unique build, the designs are great, and the Mahri look/feel truly robotic. It also appealed a lot to my kid respect for edginess.
Granted, Bionicle lore is a lot cooler on paper than it is in action. The comics/books/movies/etc always seem to have these lofty mysterious ideas that they ruin with corny dialogue and flat characters.

Does it ever make you guys feel sad to realize we're all basically the last vanguards of something no one will ever give a shit about again?
It genuinely saddens me sometimes to realize that something as cool as bonkles will never be expanded on/concluded/revitalized. At best we might get another run of shitty hero factory figures with crap lore.
Bionicle could only be made in the 2000s, with how lego was at the time, with how edgy shit was at the time, with the cool grungy CGI.

Bionicle inspired a lot of my own personal writings in terms of themes, character choices, stories, and tropes. I don't think I'd have developed my books to the point they're at, with space dragons, elemental knights, and an immortal shapeshifter in love with an immortal clairvoyant without Bionicle giving me that inspirational push. Maybe it's gone forever, maybe it isn't, but either way it'll live on in some way through what we all took from it.

I think the Vahki and Visorak might have gotten shafted due to their thightly integrated launchers. In a wave without Kanoka and Rhotuka, that would have required design changes.

Got Boxor? I been lusting for that kit for almost a year. Almost got lucky once, but it got away and I haven't seen a single piece of it for sale on my locals which is where I usually get my parts. It must be some kind of fetish for orange+black but I think these three would look badass together and work well as a team. The character choices don't bother me so much as how weak that wave was. It really should have been proper sendoff for Bionicle with full-size revamps of all the most iconic characters from across the years. Can't really blame the set designers though since they were probably the ones who had to fight for a final wave in the first place.

My ideal version of Stars would have been a proper wave with the standard 6 canister sets and a few titan/vehicle sets. The golden armor gimmick was actually pretty cool so I would keep that. My choices for the canister sets would be:

>Tahu Nuva - His mask would be the Nuva version (possibly redesigned? it's adaptive armor afterall), but the gold one would be the original Hau. The gold armor would replace the Nuva silver once you collect all the pieces.
>Hahli Mahri - With a new non-aquatic version of the Faxon. Dope mask already but it would be cool to see a new version of it. Alternatively, keep the mask mold but make the set in her OG Matoran colors.
>Gresh - 09 still needs a rep and he's one of the main characters. Have him be transformed into a Toa and/or granted elemental powers in the story. His mask would be a combination of his original helmet and a classic Kanohi.
>Rahkshi - This was already a good choice so nothing to change here. Yellow was a good pick but it could be used to fill any color that's missing from the Stars lineup.
>Piraka - Same as above. Any color is fine. Possibly a female one?
>Shadow Toa Ahkmou - Something that was already hinted at in the story but we never got. Also one of the most iconic villains so it would be a shame not to include him.
>Wildcard - Really any of the other villain sets could go here as long as it's not Skrall, considering those fuckers already got a whopping FIVE characters in 09. Maybe a Vahki with the disk launcher replaced with the Thornax launcher? It would basically have the same mandible look.

I'm not really sure what I'd do for the smaller Agori/Matoran sets. Most of the iconic Matoran characters either became Toa or wouldn't really benefit from an Av-Matoran build. Maybe instead you could just have small Technic rahi? I'm sure that could be fit into the story pretty easily, too.

I also wouldn't call it Stars because that sounds retarded and not very Bionicle-like at all. "Legends" would have been perfect but they already used that. Possibly "Bionicle: Legacy" or something like that.

If Lego actually knew how to market and make sets affordable without relying on a dying system like CCBS, as well as actually write a compelling story like early G1 something would be there. That's not going to stop people from having massive conflicts. The Glatorian don't have a reason to give a shit about mata nui in any broader sense, and they did not ask for mass migration from the GSR.
The order of mata nui, remnants of makutas army, various other evil shit, and the dark hunters are still around. Along with several basically demi-gods, the elemental lords, the skrall, artifacts from the GSR that are essentially nukes or eldritch devices, etc.

I like how Nickonplanetripple draws masks. Some characters have mouths if the mask they're wearing already has an obvious mouth hole but the Toa and Turaga have the more heroic looking mouth guards like Optimus Prime.

It always confuses me a bit when people call the TLR approach "especially" bad. Sure, the mouth window is completely unnecessary, but it's pretty tame compared to masks that somehow grow actual mouths while worn.

Instead of a reboot, what if they did a rerelease? What I mean is, instead of starting a whole new story, what if they just retold the original story again, but more coherently and in one source of media? Rather than spreading it out over so many games and comics and movies that it was basically impossible to follow as a kid in the 00's, remake it, exactly as is, maybe with some minor rewriting to fix some of the accidental racism and to fix some lore inconsistancies, and then make a single tv show or video game that compiles everything into one big source?

Either that or do like some animators and play extra much with how cartoony they can stretch and other stuff, or making new models for the ones who don’t have the greatest toy ones/really need a better one for how important they are lore wise while keeping some of the spirit of the original (Ahem, Shadowed one) or having the new ones be somewhat in style for build with the region they are from (New Toa Mata with new gimmicks potentially but mostly using that year’s design philosophy for each special area unless nobody besides 6 were blessed for example)

They were deliberately emulating the Toa Metru, hence why Tahu had Vakama's disk launcher. The guy who made these posted other revamps that had more faithful color schemes.

I still think the visual designs of the earlier sets looked better than towards the end. The more mechanical looking builds up until the glatorian season. But I really didn't like the cheap feel of the reboot or the glatorian series since that was when lego started redesigning their ball sockets, and basically all of the toa from that season will get broken joints just from assembly and standing on a shelf.

I think this part is the rarest I have, since I'm pretty sure the large white gear was only avalible with one specific set. It was one of the very first lego sets I ever had. And its what started this plastic robot obsession I have today.

I could buy a clean one on ebay, but I used this dirty beat up part for nostalgia points, and I think it looks cool because of the real weathering it has from suffering through all the shit I put it through when I was little.

I think the wheels in the shoulders are from that building machines book from the early 00's that included a handfull of gears and technic parts.

Lego crazy action contraptions, apparently they still sell the book, or at least theres one listed on amazon books.

This guy has been sitting on my shelf forever, and has been submerged in water for the last 12 years. The white lines are from the water evaporating over the years, evenutally all the water will evaporate, leaving only the encrusted bohrok behind. At least that was the original idea when I filled it up. I also just think the lense effect looks cool.
