The new classic Star Trek toys are okay. Playmates really needs to invest some serious money into developing collector-quality figures, though. Their regular stuff still feels like its stuck in the 1990s, and their collectable figures like the aforementioned Star Trek figures is a far cry from what their competitors are putting out. There's no reason why Playmates can't do some really kick-ass TMNT or Godzilla toys aimed at that mass market / collector market sweet spot, or some 6 inch "Black Series" style Star Trek figures.

I'd like them to go one way or the other. I would be very into a star trek playline compatible aesthetically and roughly scale wise with my 90s figures, but the new figures are just realistic enough not to match but not realistic enough to feel high end.

They don't focus on collectors, which is why their stuff looks bad to collectors. They're one of the last companies that actually makes action figures for kids.

Then why give the toy license to a bunch of dipshits who fucked up the 2009 movie line and are pretty much a breath away from folding due to a VERY long history of doing stupid shit?

Would've made sense to give it to a non-dying company like Spinmasters and collectible stuff to NECA.

20089 was fucked from the start. Trek fans saw the movie as pointless. Popcorn moviegoers didn't give a shit about Trek nor did they buy toys. Trek fans didn't buy a thing they hated, those moviegoers wanting action didn't care for the merch.

Remember that JJ said he hated Trek and so did Orci & Kurtzman. Why any of them were hired is a mystery.
