Yeah, Primal and Cheetor particularly
but some of that might just be because s1 beast wars primal and cheetor were not... very realistically proportioned for their animal modes.
If I recall, part of that was Cheetor's toy originally being a cougar named prowl might have been a factor there.

But Primal always seemed to be based on old king kong movies more than anything

If you just want Breakdown solely then I guess you somewhat avoid the issues people have with him being a lazy Wildrider retool, since you won't have them side-by-side to compare.
As long as your not a stickler for G1 accuracy as well, I don't see whats wrong with picking him up

It's been months and I still can't believe the set. Like going sunbow Menasor means that you should have zero compromises on the limb-bots and yet they're more compromised than the average non-combiner car-bot.

You're exaggerating.
The legacy stunticons have about as much kibble as the CW versions. Hell, Legacy Wildrider and Breakdown going into leg mode is almost identical to the CW car leg mode transformations.

Rewatching the episodes again to try and cope that he's not a lambo. Hasbro really went screen accurate for him. Just wished they had used the saved budget for reusing the mold and added the fender and window paint aps.

So exactly like the CW version? What were you expecting? The Stunticons having a big backpack is part of their design. Either you follow the original toy design where they have a backpack or the cartoon design where the car parts vanish so they have to have the backpack anyway.

It hardly makes a difference one way or another. CW arm modes were just half transformed robots.

That wouldn't make sense. Their transformations are nothing alike despite being bikes, and the original Prowl toy aged pretty much perfectly while being pretty simple anyways.
Not to mention this would (I think?) be Legacy Evolution specifically, which tells me that he will likely have his sidecar samurai armor to fit in with the toyline gimmick, and god I cannot begin to imagine how that would even work on Legacy Arcee's mold.
And hey, if they're indeed gonna be making new molds for the sidecar, they'd might as well make the main figure a new mold too.

I've cut the offending Grey plastic from the Metroplex shoulder. It feels better, but I can't say if it's perfect since the ratchet was damaged so much and I can't tell of new damage is forming. I can only say it's not being torn apart now. It doesn't impact articulation either.

The only way to tell it works would be for someone to do it on a new one before opening the shoulders.

I don't get why everyone is so conservative about Deathsaurus's chances.
I don't see him doing any worse than Victory Saber. The backers have been increasing at an even faster rate and he has one less tier to worry about. The whole set is all but guaranteed.

It's located on the front shoulder piece, the one without guns. See those 3 bits on the curvature where the ratchet goes? The bar is further in on the middle one (its bent to the side in that picture after some movement to the shoulder, it's meant to be aligned to the middle bit.

So did other Haslabs, they always revealed the final tier near the end.
They said that with Deathsaurus, probably in response of the disaster that was the Engine of Vengeance, they were trying out revealing all the extras from the start.
So unless Hasbro's felling generous (LOL) I don't think they have any other goodies planned, especially when DS is doing fine as it is.

Tested the arms after cutting the offending pieces, the more fucked up ratchets can barely hold up the weapon. The ones in good condition can hold it, but don't expect any one handed poses with the full weapon.

Sort of related, the torso ratchets are awful and make posing this guy a nightmare if you don't want it hunching over. Not sure if you can fix that since the section uses a pin.

I just ground mine down and was able to get him to hold the axe at full forward extension, though it struggles in work mode with the wheel sticking straight out from the arm.
Any pose you try to get him into is going to be hindered by that floppy-ass ab crunch before looser shoulders are going to be a problem.

I got the starscream today and while I like the figure overall, my copy has loose joints all over. Like all of them are kinda loose. but I think the show actually benefited. Sometimes when they want to crack down and get serious, sort of in celebration of recognition and getting a second season, it makes sense to 'shoo out the clowns'
but instead of getting grim and up its own ass by ending the wisecracks and antics from guys like rattrap and waspinator, they got rid of the -cardboard- characters, who basically just existed to tell megatron no and yes respectively. Made room for more depth. Tarantulas starts to do more than just cackle... Even waspinator gets fed up with the bullshit by the end.

I would presume the Studio Series is the real one from the movie simply because it actualy has a movie head and has feathers on it's body (we were told that the beasts in the movie look like robotic animals with patches of animal hide on their exterior, implying that long ago they had fake synthetic skin that deteriorated with time). Did the Metroplex fix. I bought a copy a few weeks ago, and got around to opening it today. It can hold all the configurations, even hold sparkdrinker one handed.

Sort of related, the one thing that annoys me is the hand connection for the axe, it doesn't lock it in place so it can fall off easily (the connection isn't all ratcheted either, the base is friction for some reason, so I see that wearing down soon). I'm worried the weapon will slip off while on display and get banged up when it hits my tiled floor.

Although as I type this I suddenly got AoE Dinobot vibes. We got new moulds representing on screen Dinobots albeit in more saturated colours and at the same time we got some Beast Wars Neo repaints too. Slag/Slug from Guiledart is the main one I can recall, but maybe it's a similar situation here?

There is absolutely no way the first reveal is screen accurate, anon. It straight up doesn't even look like the movie robots in the Bumblebee movie this is a sequel to, it has a normal cartoony face and much less "angular and dynamic" sculpt on the body.

Got my SS86 Ironhide yesterday, and while I love him, he really, really needed that stripe. Did a shitty attempt at painting it on myself (which will be touched up later), and also did his rear wind shield, but seriously - what gives, Hasbro? The stripe definitely helps the van mode a lot, I used a sticky backed vinyl to do mine. I think adding some red to the front bumper helps as well, there's entirely too much silver up front for my liking.

Magnus Prime was apparently going to be an Ultra Magnus recolor of the TR PM Optimus mold, but hasbro just reused the Ginrai tooling once takara had announced it. I really liked Waspinator and Terrorsaurs dynamic in season 1. Scorponok was a dud for sure. Inferno I could see being useful to the writers, you need loyal troops to Megatron, but man, Quickstrike was a dud too, but louder and more colorful. It sucks, I would trade terrorsaur for Tarantulas and Rampage though.

Waspinator was neat when semi-threatful, always felt legitimately bad for "haha FUCK this guy, enjoy suffering" Team Rocket sort of characters, always felt good when they got a win.

Inferno was simple but fun. Quick Strike sort of took over the Terrorsaur role a bit I think. Terrorsaur was wonderful in being a red flier and Starscream, absolutely infuriating that he's pretty much unobtainable. The oversized KO is tempting, but still a bit expensive the last I checked.

nah quickstrike was definitely the new scorponok, except instead of stupidly loyal to megatron, he's stupidly suggestible to literally anyone. total wild card. one of the strongest themes on the show is how megatron actually has some good plans and strategy, but because he's a fucking maverick among his people, he could only get the absolute worst possible team to come with him. tarantulas sort of takes over for terrorsaur's role, which is funny since he already stole scorponok's role (i do like the idea of him being a scientist, that would have been fun to keep)

wheelie is a great introduction to the core size, definitely getting core ratchet soon. Walmart has these bins full of op, megs, shockwave, ratchet and wheelie out now so no big rush.

He stole nothing, Scorponok's specialty was poisons and bombs, Tarantulas did everything else, he co made with Megs the Transmuter from Dark Designs, he did the boicrafting that let them alter BA and Inferno to be Preds, in fact I believe in the early episode where he kidnapped Cheetor he has a full lab and talks about experiments. He was always the "scheming scientist" as Megs said in that early episode.
If anything that's the tragedy of Scorponok, he was so poorly used and written people didn't even know he was suppose to be the weapons specialist but only had two episodes that even talk about it.

but it quickly became scorponok = dumbass bumbler meth lab scientist and tarantulas = genius mad scientist with all the useful inventions
but you have a point, they didn't exactly take a hard swerve or anything, they just pivoted slightly and recontextualized earlier stuff. tarantulas being essentially the robot equivalent of a voodoo witch doctor meant there was wiggle room for interpretation. plus the change happened VERY early, but left behind a few plot elements in stories that couldn't be rewritten (in the same way optimus being able to fly was left in scripts after he was no longer a bat, necessitating a jetpack for him)

It’s a tough one, both figures nail their respective characters, but I’d lean towards Blaster. I can’t think of anything I’d consider a problem with him, whereas Tigatron, nice as he is, I’m not fond of how far back the shoulders sit and how thin the torso is. The figure could have done with a panel to bulk up the area behind the tiger head.
Blaster though has this great hand feel. There’s something about the plastic that just feels better, like it’s denser than normal plastic and has a nice glossy finish.

On a side note, I hope Hasbro utilize the Studio Series core class to give us all Soundwave and Blaster's minions.

Funny enough back in the 90s/early 00s most didn't like Terrorsaur because he was seen as a poor man's Starscream and Scorponok was always compared to the G1 version which made him seem even worse than what the BW version really was. However after 10ish years of "Here's G1, yes G1! You want G1 right? Here's GEEEWUUUN! LOVE IT!" a lot of people have warmed up to those two.

Disagree, only one episode did he use science (Gorilla Warfare) and he wasn't a genius because he fucked up the poison so bad that instead of making him a coward it made him a near unstoppable killing machine. Meanwhile Tarantulas had several episodes in the first season (Double Jeopardy, The Probe, Dark Designs, Spiders Game, etc) where he used his scientific knowledge, and his lab and science skills were referenced as well many times over in the first half of season one. Tarantulas was called a scientist a good 4 episodes before Scorponok did anything that approached science(and again he fucked it up really bad)

and yeah the overall big gun was TOO big. i get it, he's big convoy, but you can overdo it. the gun is basically scaled for the robot he WOULD be if the kibble were fully integrated into his limbs and torso. I would have had it separate, one gun (maybe with the trunk running along the top or bottom) and then a second gun using the remaining parts.

One episode anon. I have no dog in this fight but you have one episode to support he is a scientist and it's in the same way a baker is a scientist. He "knew" how to make poisons and I use quotes because as noted he didn't do a good job of it, but besides that nothing about what he did is any more scientific than cooking or mixing paints. I think you just want him to be one so you are starting from the conclusion and working backwards because Rat Trap mixed chemicals for bombs which could be seen as being a scientist but we understand it requires a bit more than that to be assigned to you as a job so we don't look at Rat Trap as a scientist even though he understands a lot of chemistry.

I can't see where you are getting that. You keep saying that but nothing in context of the show implies this. Early on he was just a loyal meat head. First thing he does in the show is shoot Dinobot, next big thing he did was installed a gun, and up until he made his new bee poison he just jobbed a lot and after that he just jobbed more. Nothing about him even has vibes of a scientist. It's likely why they offed him. The show had flaws but this one you claim doesn't exist.

G1 Soundwave was meme'd as loyal because he had that phrase "as you command Megaton" so people took that as a sign of loyalty rather than taking it as the "yes sir" it represented. The movie also made the meme stick since he carried Megs body as commanded but everyone forgets "as commanded" it wasn't like Shockwave that tried to kill Starscream over even implying Megs was a bad leader. They also spent a lot of time together as they shared the same VA which was a common thing they did with characters on the show.

For those that care, apparently nonnef will make some some upgrade kits for Point-blank. So far they seem to be an arm upgrade kit, a new peacemaker and the spoiler/engine gun. Neat that he's bothering, but this mold still needs more fixes (and the cost of these upgrades will add up).

They planned to kill him as well because the way he talked ate up a lot of time on the show but they saw the fandom online and at conventions how much they all loved him so Waspboy got spared.

He watched Starscream kick Megatron as he was bleeding out on the ground and didn't help until he was asked to do so. He's the best you want out of a solider for sure but that's not really someone that is loyal to you as a person so much as the chain of command. That said he was willing to fight Starscream for leadership, but not stop him from saving Megatron from being tossed to his death so perhaps he is more complicated than what is being let on.

well here's the problems that added up to make this happen
1. safety regulations say it can't be pointy at the tip
2. because of the new good but slightly flawed transformation, the robot head takes up significant real estate inside the tail (though this does mean you can do the helicopter blade fanmode just like the original)
2b. that leaves less room for the sword inside the tail (its tip has to even poke out and be scale-textured just like how the original's sword became a tailtip)

the sword wouldn't look so short if not for his giant yaoi hands, which they did instead of making the raptor feet a better shape.. and maybe folding in some way.

Just got Crankcase and holy fuck you guys weren't kidding. Floppy joints, terrible peg connection, hollow as hell, the partsforming gun, the awkward transformation, the weird ass half-wheel shoulders, fuck.

Considering he's a remould that does nothing different but partsform more, I doubt it. I paid $30 CAD for him and I feel more ripped off than PotP Octane. The only thing I can say nice about him is the paint is crisp and good looking, but the budget cuts are so severe on this line. Feels identical to going from WfC to FoC.

TR right, the tail end of TR and PotP bleed together because they all had similarly awful figures. My Octane's wings were floppy as shit, paint was awful and generally the whole thing was a miserable experience, even compared to the other triple changers.
And considering what other companies and even other lines within hasbro are doing, I just assume it's testing how far they can go at this point. Like Black Series has problems, but their paint and sculpt budget are generally pretty good. ML is getting fresh sculpt after fresh sculpt, but are fucking people with multi-packs to save budget. TFs are just getting slashed left and right and I think it stings more just because we went directly from SS86 and Trilogy into Legacy which has by and large been a fucking shit show.

I was really optimistic with Hot Rod and Wreck-Gar despite these times, but then there was another price increase.. Earthrise and Siege were okay but better quality than TR, I don't know what happened. Here's hoping for a Siege/ER/86 resurgence in quality after Legacy.

Tabs were just shit on mine. Front of the truck mode was just a mess too. It felt more acceptable at the time because certain TR Deluxes were amazing, but by the time we hit PotP I had considered dropping collecting altogether.
And at the very least SS86 is miles ahead of Legacy. Tells me they still an make shit good, but someone higher up is telling them to cut their nuts off.

Forest for the trees. It wasn't the implementation of Terrorsaur specifically, it was their attempts to directly replicate aspects of the original show. When they start writing characters with more clear and unique character roles is about the point where the show finds its footing, and they're so different that early episodes can be difficult to reconcile with later and more well-known characterisation (see: cannibal Tarantulas, zen Rhinox)

Only thing is they work more as shrines to specific characters, not so much if your collecting a team/line.

i guess. I feel like, to make a comparison, editing a drawing to fix problems with its proportions, color, etc has a lower skill ceiling than drawing your own from scratch. or a higher ceiling.. however that metaphor works. It's easier. Plus creativity seems to really flow when you have something to start with

Also, decided to pass on dethchickun. I figure if I get black zarak and sky lynx then I get two toys (more really) and/or a playset I'd really really enjoy as opposed to a vanity piece with possible QC issues. Met up with a co worker who understands transformers so that's cool, worked different shifts so I kinda forgot about him. Blog over.

you mean which color of the new waspinator mold? definitely skywasp. buzzsaw is theoretically good, but the head doesn't quite work and the green just.. it doesn't look different enough from waspinator. I'm much more of a Mudfighter fan (and got the t30 version of him at a reasonable aftermarket price). The black wings are oogly and miss the point. I wish one version of this mold had orange wings instead, like a cazadore.
but if you don't have t30 waspinator, regular waspinator version is important to fill out your roster. there's nothing wrong with him really, just inferior to that one. with a slightly better wasp mode depending how you look at it (those legs though, ehhhh the thickness is right but the lack of detail isn't)

Ok thank you, it felt like waspinator, buzzsaw etc just hit in a glut so I so just kinda sat it out. It will fit right in with my other bugs and monster bots. I think my last addition to that group was apeface so it's been a good minute since I've played with them. Gonna get antferno too when it comes back in stock so I can recreate honey I shrunk the kids.

Honestly I'd disagree. The vehicle mode seems to work better for Elita than it does for Minerva imo, in that it's missing a bit of detail on the side and still looks chibi/sanrio-fied in proportions qhen the og Minerva wasn't really; she was just rectangular. That and the shoulder pilons don't have any printing on them, because there's wheels on them instead.
Meanwhile on Elita, the shoulder bits can be folded away for a more pure look, and the vehicle feels like a proper adaptation of her really brief tv appearance. Plus the robot mode's super accurate, besides the blockier lower legs, but I'm actually fond of those; makes her look more like a Transformer rather than a generic fembot that has to shellform (Arcee). I really hate G1 Arcee's design, man.
So yeah tl;dr the Elita version feels to me like a faithful adaptation with very subtle upgrades in character design, while Minerva was already pretty good originally but now is just kinda off and comes off as meh, yknow?

True, way too plain, no way of hiding car mode. Bike or a redesigned bot mode really are needed. Maybe RotB bike mode will make that design more popular.
