Finally getting good faces! The key was to apply less material it seems but I still applied a bit too much. But since green stuff is solid, it have less capabilities for escaping mold and thus can deform with too much in place and under too much pressure.

I still use the chink ones as a beater set for cutting thicker plastic.
Anonymous
>>10164878 My tamiyas are damn near 10 years old, I've resurfaced them several times, and the spring is long gone. They have outlasted 2 gundam planet nippers and 2 god hand nippers.
That said all I use them for is the initial cut from the runners, the single blade nipper does the close cut. I use a retractable xacto (the one with the 4mm blade) for final cleanup, unless there is a really odd or large nub that needs a sanding stick.

Finished up on Arnval just now. She is certainly one of the contenders for the best Megami Device kit. She has done away with the noodle proportions of both Busou Shinki and Megami Device similarly to how Susanowo did before her. Her body proportions are very nice. The one fault in the body is that the Shinki style joint in her lower body doesn't play well with her md style hip shell, so the hips have a tendency to try to leave the thighs floating a fair bit in front of where they should be. Much improved is the way the shoulder butterfly joint hinges out, rather than the mushroom peg that totally locks it in place its a normal peg that can be pulled out should you so desire. Said peg pushes into a pom core inside the torso that feels quite rigid, so my fear that that may crack ar some point is minimal. What isn't so nice is the way the knees work. Arnval introduces a new "shinki" runner that contains the generic parts that can be used (and undoubtedly will be used in Strarf) for future kits. It has a rather unique structure for the knees that features a sort of inner frame. Problem is is that the 3mm peg that goes into the joint is quite tight, and rightfully so, it has to support the weight of any future hypothetical Shinki, said 3mm peg is attached to a 1mm strip of plastic that is EXTREMELY fragile. Should that piece break the structure of the knee is likely totally compromised since the lower leg shell holds no tension on the peg and would likely split should the remaining tab end up turning due to the joints tightness. It's not a good setup, though when properly assembled it works perfectly.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>10167985 The only other flaw in this kit is the sometimes atrocious nub placement. The worst offenders being on the tanks and leg armor. The tanks each have three spots of attachment to the runner. These are not undergated, and sit on the edge of the part, since there are six sections you wind up with a tedious amount of cleanup, or tanks covered in crappy pot marks. The legs are an unfortunate result of trying to mold the front and sides as one piece, there is a large mold line and very unfortunate nub smack dab in the middle of the sides of the legs.

One thing I mentioned that I think I should elaborate on is the generic shinki runners. There a good few here that are definitely not designed with just one kit in mind. In fact, several of the Arnval specific runners are covered in places to turn off sections of the mold. The miniscule amount of hope that gives me that maybe the other reboot kits could se the light of day... who the fuck am I kidding fuck Konami. Anyway, here is a couple shinki body runners as seen in the instructions.

>>10168107 Nah, she's fine.
Lirinel (yeah, that's the spelling hey went with) is definitely not great, I'd almost say she's bad.
The limbs are run of the mill for 30ms, nothing out of the ordinary except that they are much smaller than the past limbs. Her big problem is her torso. Bluntly, it's absolute ass. The thighs and hips are redesigned around a drop down function to enable forward movement, yet forsake everything else in the process, she barely gets 45° of motion to the sides, greatly reducing actual poseability and looking horrible in the process thanks to the humongous empty cutout I. The upper inside of her thigh. Her upper torso doesn't fair much better since it has full on Taisha syndrome where moving the upper segment forwards or back at all horrifically breaks the sculpt to a degree I don't think even Taisha could pull off.
All that said, despite being a huge step down for 30ms I don't think that the sum of her parts are that awefull, in undemanding poses she looks fine, and her customizability is quite good thanks to the new back adapter and the alternate arms she comes with.
Anonymous
>>10168131 Not that I'd ever build the armor the way bandai suggests to begin with though.
I probably should mention that even though the legs can get 90° forward, that's only with an alternate skirt that looks quite bad in any position but sitting.

>>10168561 Gotta love modern geopolitics. I don't think I've heard anything positive out of Europe in at least a decade. I really wish Arnval came in a smaller box, there was no need for the Susanowo box. Besides the booster tanks there aren't any particularly deep runners, she absolutely would have fit in a strike raptor sized box no problem. She's a super simple kit and the majority of her parts count comes from small pieces used for color accuracy. I don't think her main body even has 50 pieces, and the weapons and armor probably barely hit 70. There isn't any reason she should be over... $75, besides the Konami tax that is.

I honestly feel like shit now - two weeks of casting and mold making and I basically ended up with nothing. Maybe faceplates would be passable but I still feel like they are slightly wider than they should but arms are disaster - none is going to fit each other and trying to cast two halves out together face another problem - how to construct working joint on such way when apparently GS would react with superlgue and won't be melted by cement and thus cannot be fixed with plastic rod. I hate myself.

Most Megamis/FA cost around 6000 yen on Mandarake - even with 23% vat and shipping (assuming that airmail would be finally back) it still means saving nearly half on kit itself. Remember that shipping within EU still cost you (20€ for me but DPD keep the price up to 20kg packages so I simply ship once per year in one bigass package).

At least shipping is cheap, shops in the same country usually do free shipping and even my big orders have never cost me more than €16.
Anonymous
>>10173599 I'm sorry, I was thinking about duty aka the extra payment from importing, aside from VAT. Since last year's every imported package to EU have to be taxed (small local assholes were too buttblasted by Chinese) just not every one is subjected to duty.
Fun fact - in Poland, they figured out that checking every package makes no sense... so they hold EVERY package and send letter asking to do declaration online, yourself. And you have to pay extra for both this declaration and to be able to pay taxes at postal office (and you don't have other option). So you do their job and pay them for it.
