some of the new pieces of the ninjago 2023 sets look hightly desirable, but there's no way I'm getting the full set for any of them. The only ones that seem to have a fair enough price are the 10$ ones, and maybe the mech duel.

When should we expect to be able to pick those new pieces in BaB? I think the new pieces for 2022 haven't been in there up until recently. Anyone have a more concrete date?

Same goes for the Galaxy Explorer. There's a reason that set is already at deep discounts only a few months later.

I was just at my local Wal Mart yesterday and despite the discount they still a full inventory of them on the Lego Isle. These things just aren't selling. No one wants them because even though nostalgiafags like myself really want more classic themed sets, normal kids do NOT care about them and that is the main market for Lego.

Kids only care about Star Wars, Minecraft, Ninjago, etc. The big, popular themes that make Lego profitable. Everything else designed towards adult collectors is not going to be anywhere near as profitable for them, especially if it's original, non-licensed themes.

I just got back into Lego and missed out on this set. It's not too expensive yet but I really regret getting back into Lego right after this retired.

In fact I remember seeing it on sale on Lego.com and just avoided buying it because Lego still didn't interest me again at that point though I was tempted.

I haven't bought Lego in about 15 years save for a handful of 10 euro or less sets that had cool elements in it I wish I had growing up. Most recently a 6 euro discounted chicken coop with 2 chickens and 2 eggs. Pretty stoked on that.
Also have 2 polybags from like a year ago. One harry potter themed with owl, book and hermione and the other a jurassic park with a baby raptor.

I'm still hoping to find the courage to buy the 400 euro castle and basically use the stuff in there and the practice and insight of the build to eventually moc a castle again. Last time I did that was probably 15-17 years ago. All my Lego is in the attic, kind of waiting for my daughter to grow into it.

Great set, good call. Castle is good too if you do eventually get the moxie to get it.
How old's your daughter? My daughter got the duplo train set for her 2nd birthday off her grandparents then I introduced her to Lego by letting her play with all the Mario blindbag guys I got like a year later. Anything small that they can put back together if a piece comes off while playing it would work, if you've got any little cars in your collection for example.
Now she's 4 and she free builds big ol' dino paddocks n stuff. It's great to see.
Don't write off the 4+ sets either; big ones are a rip off but the small ones are neat and the babby instructions really make a difference early on.

Classic and 3 in 1 are the only things still going that are pure lego for the sake of lego.

Ninjago has become its own inhouse licensed theme, and I don't know anyone whose actually still interested in it.

Technic is now nothing but licensed cars, they don't have any of the classic little sets like a dirt bike or simple car. I loved 90's technic where it was clearly still lego. I don't know when they stopped using any studs in technic, but I would like to see them return to a more blocky look.

Thats another issue, modern lego sets are too detailed. They've lost that blocky lego charm. Why does every set have to hide all the studs as if their afraid someone might notice its lego? Are they aiming for an audience who doesn't like lego? Why would that make any sense?

Lego City and Friends is nothing but vehicles, but if you want just a simple house or something, you have to buy the big 100$ set for the five story mansion that comes with 30 minifigs and 5 cars and a helicoptor and all you wanted was a house.

Most of the catalogue is taken up by Disney or WB sets.

And they've completely done away with any kind of buildable action figures, like bionicle or hero factory. The star wars and marvel ones flopped because people interested in the buildable action figures just wanted more bionicle or hero factory styled stuff, not more disney crap. The bionicle reboot flopped due to executive mismanagement and almost no advertisement. I know a lot of people didn't even know bionicle had a reboot until it was already gone again. Probably partly due to it looking too much like hero factory, since they basically just reused those parts.

My daughter is 4 now. She has some duplo but hasn't been too interested in building. She prefers playing with the train and the animal figures. She also got a bunch of playmobil for christmas last year and again less into the setting up and more into the actual play part.

I think if I do a big build she might get interested in it from "helping" me or something. If thats the case I can start getting her small sets. They also have some Legos at school but its mostly just the regular bricks and plates.

Ngl gonna be crushed if she doesn't develop any interest in it at all. My wife is riding the playmobil angle a bit hard for my tastes but I can't deny its getting quite a bit of play and is at a better scale for combining with outside figurines like her fireman Sam toys.

If she does get into it, I'm going to hide the fact that I have 12 years of birthdays and christmasses worth of Lego in the attic until she starts complaining about not having certain stuff. Then I'm gonna say "I can check my Lego to see if it's in there" and relish in what I hope to be a combination of joyful awe and indignation at the reveal. Maybe I've set myself up for disappointment but hey a man can dream.

I have very mixed feelings about Neuschwanstein. On the one hand it's quite intricate and beautiful, but on the other hand it was built as an oversized folly in the late 1800s and has no military history to it whatsoever. Even when it was built it had no military use at all even in an emergency, since cannons would just totally wreck it. It's basically a 1:1 scale moc before Lego existed.

Polishing wheel and polishing compound. I've polished many pieces, not just transparent ones with them using my bench grinder.

You just have to be careful, hold the piece in a way that the wheels won't catch it, and do it gently as too much pressure can built too much friction that can melt / damage the plastic.

I actually polished a fuck ton of my old childhood lego pieces last year, they had been in large tubs for decades and had quite a lot of scratches, and I stacked the bricks on each other making walls and then polished multiple pieces in one go. Was very time consuming but produced good results, the pieces were actually shinier than new pieces when done.

Also for tiles it's a great way to just stack a bunch of tiles on some flat 6x14 or larger plates, then just polish a bunch of them in one go.

Oh, and once you're done, any polishing compound on the pieces can be removed with rubbing alcohol. The only annoying thing is the compound can build up in the seams and backs of bricks and it can be annoying to clean it to remove all the compound.

I've played with lego for over a decade. Mostly by building and making up stories as I build. Kind of like writing headcanon lore rather than letting guys walk along the street shouting pew pew vroom and playing the stories out. I did that on occasion but really 98% of Lego for me is just building, especially mocs. After building something it usually did go on display until I needed the pieces for a new moc. If a friend or my sweet, patient mother came in my room and asked about it. I could tell the story from my head show them what I built and why.

And now you're telling me I've been enjoying my life wrong?! I'm absolutely going to kill myself. How could I have made such a fatal mistake. Playing with my toys in the wrong way. he eventually got caught because he got greedy and was doing it over and over again at the same target store and they caught onto him. Would have gotten away with it if he did it smarter and used multiple stores.

Check for security tags, obviously. For small sets stuff 'em in a messenger bag while buying other stuff. Big sets, if they don't have tags (rare but sometimes happens) sometimes you can get away with going to the self service checkout with a basket, putting the set down on the ground between you and the checkout, buy a sandwich or something and then just casually reach down and grab the set when you leave.

The ultimate tip, when doing any shoplifting as a white guy is plausible deniability and having the funds to pay for it anyway. This usually means paying for something else while shoplifting, that way if you do get caught you can just pretend you made a mistake because you're tired/retarded.

I spent about 8 years shoplifting every time I entered a store and I've never been caught. Never paid for diapers either.

Fake barcode at self checkout is the easiest way. Just print a label for the cheapest SKU and slap it over the original as you pick it up. At big stores like Walmart make sure you're wearing a mask and sunglasses so the self checkout AI can't get a read of your face (this is important) and wear earbuds so if LP tries to stop you just point to your headphones and plow through them. You can buy a Fleischman N scale or Märklin H0 scale starter kit for like 250-350 euros. I think in the USA it's more common to use 1:48 scale and some quick googling gives similar results to the above. In short, you'll get more for your money... while still making you look like a nerd but at least you'll look like a grown ass nerd playing with serious toys instead of a nerd playing with childrens toys.

Minifig size is 1:25, closest common model train scale for that is 1:22 "Gauge 3" but that stuff is prohibitively expensive since its nearly all actual functional steam engines fired with oil or coal. You'll be looking at 6k+ to start, most of the community being centered in and around the UK and the size is just too massive to set up routes in most homes.

Ngl hogwarts express can be a killer display set if you're about that harry potter stuff but unless you are all in on HP Lego I'd consider it not great value. It doesn't even work with any existing tracks you have. A bit of a dud if you ask me.

The general shape/outline of the castle is nice, but by God man you need some structural stability in that bitch. The upper levels being held up by just stacks of 1x2 bricks hurts to look at. For the angled areas like the floor of the upper Bailey I'd recommend looking at how modern sets incorporate Pythagorean Theorem/3-4-5 triangles so you don't have gaps everywhere.

I think most 20th century army fags are balls deep in off-brand stuff just for the sake of having the right stuff and a better price. Why bother with the one lego helm if you can't get the olive drab pieces for your Sherman, nor any feldgrau minifigs with politically sensitive prints for your Atlantikwall / D-day moc.

Not to mention the price differential is quite massive. I'm considering buying a fuckton of Chinesium bricks in grey, blue, black, brown and green to make terrain for my Lego brand mocs to sit on. That way I can control tightly that they don't actually mix, but still tighten the budget a little bit. Well that and urps.

Yeah, my daughter really likes playing with the drawbridge and the portcullis. When she realised she could send stuff to the dungeon using the drawbridge she spent about 2 hours sending minifigs, dinosaurs and animals down there. Good fun hahaha

Shame you don't have a local Legoland, though if you do want a brick-themed day out with the nippa at some point, apparently there's a Discovery Centre in Scheveningen. I dunno where the fuck that is, but google tells me it's near The Hague (which I literally thought was a the name of a single building until just now).

The discovery center isn't worth much imo. It's mostly just a somewhat lego themed indoor playground for her age group. When she gets older there might be stuff there that grabs her attention like the workshops but for now I'm holding off on it.
I'm just gonna build some stuff myself once the castle gets in and then she'll probably take to it enough to actually buy her something.

I'm saying that the new kits are a literal downgrade though, especially the Tie Fighter.

I've been getting back into Lego after about a 12 year hiatus and seeing some of the better kits from just a few years ago is depressing, especially because they're almost twice the retail price now for a used kit.

I think a part of it is the licenses have driven the average prices up far more than most people realize. Part to price ratio is all out of wack now. Its not even reliable for guessing the price of a set anymore.

Still, I don't see why Lego retires kits like the 2018 X-Wing / Tie Fighter, they genuinely look much better than the newer kits.

yeah all official. Head and hair are both from Tread Octane who's one of the Lego City character figs. Comes in that Stuntz set with the robot spider.
Torso is from the Ferrari set and I'm fairly certain it's the only "red jacket over graphic tshirt" torso

I honestly don't mind the smaller scale. It fits pretty nicely with the minifigures which aren't exactly a good metric for determining scale anyway. They're able to pack an impressive amount of detail into them despite the smaller size, and they're a bit more affordable (because surprisingly lego didn't try to pull a one-two jew and reduce the size without lowering the price). Only issue is when you have sets from before they changed the scale. I got the newest imperial shuttle and it's comically dwarfed by the 2018 TIE and x-wing on my shelf

part ID helps because some parts have a few different molds and sellers usually differentiate between them if they're any good. I'd just say something like "I'm looking at your 1x2 jumpers (3794, blue)..." just to pull an example out my ass. It also helps remove any potential confusion around pet-names for certain parts (cheese slopes, headlight bricks, jumpers, studs, etc.). It never hurts to be specific.

Lego obviously has data showing it's not worth making kits. Years ago they used to just make whatever and if it sold well great if not try again. Now they probably have analytics on everything they produce and ways to predict if a set will sell or not.

As of right now, the only thing that makes sense for them to do is keep pumping out kits based on whatever new media disney is shitting out in the current year, and getting parents to buy their kids since they all consoom the media on disney+.

Funny that the only one used so many rare pieces, including the only use of that Potatu toe thing outside of him, along with Violet stuff being present basically only there, and making a highly desirable minifig head with Jango’s black mask face plus Boba as a bonus, shame we still haven’t gotten one and if we do, it likely will be a brick without any play value unlike some of the earlier ones for (((safety)))

It started with the 2017 Ninjago Temple which uses 4 dark blue scorpions as roof ornaments. Guess it sold like shit and they are still trying to get rid of stock

there's no reason for it not to be black on other sets and with how many new molds they keep making it's the only reason they would still be using this extremely outdated animal that clashes with the more recent designs

Also curious to how you are planning to further decorate. I'm personally a fan of banners hanging down the towers, stain glass with an led behind it to show it off and awnings / roofs over the wall battlements.

Nice keep anon, you should add some more color to it once you finish out the structure, maybe switch a color of the portal, windows, battlements. I would also make it a bit more chaotic (eg. Diffrent rock level, it doesnt have to be big, just 1,2 brick high so its not so symmetrical, it just look a bit weird with cut platao), other than that i dig the shape and round towers, good job.

late 2000s we had Mars Mission. Followed by Space Police III, followed by Alien Conquest and then Galaxy Squad, and since then... nothing.
Alien Conquest was a great theme too. Galaxy Squad was kind of a let down and pretty forgettable.

Its the flavour of the month woke victim group. Divide and conquer. Every form of victim gets its day to be pulled into a "we are your only option" campaign. Corporate moles and marketing departments then catch on to the trend and make the companies make products that reflect it.
Fun fact: intersectionalism applied in its fullest is individualism. An ideal that intersectional feminists reject.

Now don't get me wrong. I think its fine that they make a few vitiligo characters. I just see it as more variety and for the handful of people who have it its probably nice. But the driver behind it isn't to be nice. It's to pull small groups into the political machine of woke intersectionalism which is fully meant as a precursor to communism.

Thank you very much bud. For the middle balcony, I may well add a door in instead of the windows. From experience though single hinge doors look a bit weird, if I can find a pair of six stud wide double doors i'll see how it looks.

As for further decoration, I'm working on a stained glass window for the circular window at the top; currently trying to get enough translucent 1x1s together to do so. Will get some banners and flags as well, though will focus on those after the gatehouse and curtain wall.
